二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   As recently as 15 years ago, if you wanted to catch up on the news, you could look at a handful of publications or a few nightly programs. And if you wanted to listen to music, you could turn on MTV or fiddle with your radio. People in major cities had more options, because a large population can support specialty shops. 1.

Today, as we all know, access to information has exploded. One consequence, according to Toure, a cultural critic writing in Salon, is that the ability of pop culture to unify us-- he refers to the massive interest in Michael Jackson’s Thriller, or Nirvana’s Nevermind--has been eroded, probably forever. Steven Hyden, also writing in Salon, counters that whatever the advantages and disadvantages of a centralized pop-culture authority, the monoculture never actually existed.

2 Even when it supposedly existed, its content largely depended on other characteristics of your little corner of the world. In the 1992-1993 school year, I was a student at a multiracial and relatively urban junior high school in California’s central valley. We listened to Salt-n-Pepa, Snoop Doggy Dogg, and Kris Kross, with the latter having inspired a trend in which kids wore their clothes backwards. The next year I was enrolled in a mostly white junior high  school in leafy Chiago suburb. One of the houses was famous for having appeared in the 1990 film “Home Alone”; the popular bands were Nirvana, Hole and the Smashing Pumpkins; and the biggest pop-cultural event of the school year was Kurt Cobain’s suicide.

But Toure’s point is about the virtues of common cultural experience. It seems he is recalling centralized media only in so far as it’s a distribution system that fostered ( 促进) that outcome.

3 It doesn’t matter whether a record is released by an important label or an indie ( 独立制片人); if it’s online, people can usually find, forward, share and promote it. But what’s interesting and perhaps surprising, given that both Toure and Mr Hyden seem to agree that the old distribution favored big media, is that we still have widely shared cultural experiences. Just think of Barack Obama doing the little hand gesture from Beyonce’s “Single Ladies ” video.

    4. It’s safe to say that the monoculture never really existed, and that some artists still reach a wide audience, whether we like it or not.

A.That suggests that we like pop culture partly because it’s a shared experience, regardless of quality.

B.However, in vast areas of the world you had to work to get outside the mainstream.

C.Whether you like it or not, “monoculture” is here with us.

D.I think Mr Hyden is correct that the concept of a “monoculture” is a bit of a myth.

E.They see globalization as being the spread of a monoculture, based on western values, which is killing the cultural diversity of the world.

F.And it’s true that the ways we now consume pop culture to some extent level the playing field.

  • 22、We all want to draw the love of others.【1】The more you practice accepting and loving yourself, the more people are likely to love you! Here are some tips that can help you learn to love yourself.

Learn to recognize the negative things you tell yourself. Everyone has an inner voice that tells them all the bad things they are doing. You can never fully get rid of it, but you can give them less power to influence you.【2】Is it because you tell yourself that you are ugly, or that your personality is too strange? When you find you’re having a negative thought, replace it with a positive one.

【3】 It’s hard to deal with everything well in life. So don’t think too much about your flaws. Don’t be worried about making mistakes. Just accept your mistakes and learn from them.

Let yourself be imperfect. If you’re thinking you have to be perfect, stop that thinking right now. 【4】 Also, when you create the expectations of perfection for yourself, you will begin applying those expectations to others. It's hard to love someone who is often making you feel like you aren't perfect.

Enjoy your life.【5】So start to enjoy the things that are already in your life. For example, make yourself a delicious lunch, or go for a walk in the sun.

    A.Don’t take yourself too seriously.

B.Build fun things into your workday.

C.Don’t always think highly of yourself.

D.You would be loved no matter how many flaws you have.

E.So you can consider why you feel like you aren't lovable.

F.However, this isn’t something that's going to happen overnight.

G.People would be drawn to those who are having fun with their life.

  • 23、   When you catch the flu and your body temperature rises to fight the virus, that's a form of acute inflammation. So is the redness and swelling that occur when you hurt your ankle. The process is a temporary, helpful response to an injury or illness. It provides the healing chemicals and nutrients your body needs to repair the damage. Once the danger goes away, so does the inflammation.

Chronic low-grade inflammation, on the other hand, is a slow, gradual condition sustained by a misfiring of the immune system that keeps your body in a constant, long-term state of alert, says Dr Robert H. Shmerling, teaching clinician in the department of rheumatology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, USA.

Over time, inflammation damages healthy cells. Here's why: When cells are in distress, they release chemicals that alert the immune system. White blood cells then flood the scene, where they work to eat up bacteria, viruses, damaged cells and pieces from an infection or injury. If the damage is too great, they call in backup cells known as neutrophils, which are the hand grenades of the immune system—they blow up everything in sight, healthy or not. Each neutrophil has a short life, but in chronic inflammation, they continue to be sent in long after the real threat is gone, causing damage to the healthy tissue that remains. The inflammation can start attacking the linings of your arteries or intestines, the cells in your liver and brain or the tissues of your muscles and joints.

This inflammation-caused cellular damage can trigger diseases like diabetes, cancer, dementia, heart disease, arthritis and depression. And because it's low grade, “it’s slow and secret nature makes it hard to diagnose in day-to-day life,” says Roma Pahwa, a researcher for the National Institutes of Health who specializes in the inflammatory response. “You have no idea it is even happening until those conditions show symptoms.”

【1】Which can best describe acute inflammation as a response?

    A.Lasting.

    B.Beneficial.

    C.Harmful.

    D.Dangerous.

【2】What can we learn about neutrophils?

    A.They function as backup cells.

    B.They only damage something bad.

C.They will disappear with a real threat.

    D.They should cause slight damage.

【3】What we infer from the last paragraph?

A.We can't be too careful about cellular damage.

B.Doctors can identify cellular damage with ease.

C.Cellular damage is fast and obvious in nature.

D.There exists no effective cure for cellular damage.

【4】What is the purpose of this text?

A.To introduce some ways to keep healthy.

B.To get inflammation known to people.

C.To warn people of dangers of cellular damage.

D.To recommend a cure for diabetes.

  • 24、   The European Space Agency(ESP) wants to build a village on the moon, said Woerner, the head of the agency, in a video interview posted on its website on March 21.

“I would like to build a base station on the moon, meaning that it’s an open station...for different states around the globe,” Woerner said to Euronews. He said the village could replace the International Space Station(ISS) in the future, which will be ended in 2024. In December Nexgen Space, a consultant(咨询) company for NASA, said that a lunar refueling station could “reduce the cost to NASA of sending humans to Mars by as much as $10 billion per year.”

According to the ESA’s plan, starting from the early 2020s, robots will be sent to the moon to begin building different facilities (设备), followed a few years later by the first humans to live there. Instead of bringing expensive resources from Earth, the moon’s natural resources like metal and frozen water could be used to build the village.

Having a lunar base could be challenging because of space radiation(辐射), meteorite(陨石) and extreme temperatures from 123 to 153, according to CNN. But Woerner said these risks could be made smaller by choosing the right locations on the moon.

“If we go into the shadow on the moon, we’ll have places where we don’t have the radiation... At the South Pole, we can find water,” he said.

Right now, the moon village is just an idea. But as the BBC said, there is a growing interest in returning to the moon and the idea will be taken seriously.

“Inside all of us there is something that goes beyond being practical,” Woerner said. “We like to discover. This is humankind and this is what brings us into the future.”

1What is most likely to happen after robots finish building different facilities?

A.Humans will be sent to Mars.

B.Humans will be sent to live on the Moon.

C.Expensive resources will be sent to the moon.

D.International Space Station(ISS) will be ended..

2According to the passage, which of the following is NOT a risk for living on the moon?

A.It is too hot to live there.

    B.There is too much radiation.

C.It's too far away from the earth.

D.There may be rocks landing from outer space.

3Based on the last paragraph, what may be the reason for humans to build a moon village?

    A.Humans are very practical.

B.Humans want to experience the future.

C.Humans don’t like to stay in the same place.

D.Humans are nature-born to explore the unknown.

4Which of the following best describes the purpose of this passage?

    A.To inform. B.To analyze. C.To persuade. D.To criticize.
