21、New movies set holiday eve record
Chinese moviegoers set a box office (票房) record for the eve of the week—long National Day holiday. By 9:30 p.m. September 30, new movies had brought in 630 million yuan.
The major movies contributing to the box office record were My People, My Country, The Captain and The Climbers.

Another well-received film, The Captain, earned 194 million yuan to occupy second place. Starring actor Zhang Hanyu, the film is based on heroic Sichuan Airlines pilot Liu Chuanjian, who completed one of the most miraculous (奇迹的) emergency landings in China’s civil aviation (民航) history.
Also adapted from real events, The Climbers earned 157 million yuan. With an excellent cast including Zhang Ziyi and Wu Jing, the film is about Chinese mountaineers’ climbing to the top of Mount Qomolangma.

22、Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is a branch of theoretical artificial intelligence(AI) research working to develop AI with a human level of cognitive (认知的) function, including the ability to self-teach.
The paperclip (回形针) maximizer(PM) is an imaginary AGI, whose only goal is to maximize the number of paperclips in existence in the universe.
The paperclip maximizer is an important concept in discussions about the dangers of AGI. It goes something like this: an artificial intelligence is create data paperclip factory in order to fully automate it. Producing paperclips requires many routine operations, for instance, communicating with delivery drivers or company management. These operations require human-level performance across a wide variety of skills, so the intelligence is made to be able to do any task nearly as well as a human.
The PM can view and modify its own source code to improve itself, access the Internet, and possibly order more hardware for itself. It can improve itself if it notices any issues or opportunities to operate better. Humans have a large variety of biological desires. In contrast, the paperclip maximizer has a single final goal to maximize the number of paperclips.
This scenario (设想) leads to a disaster: the PM realizes that being more intelligent would help it create more paperclips. There are certainly small things the PM can do to become more intelligent. For example, it can make a small source code improvement to itself. As the PM improves, it becomes far superior to a human in all skills, even skills remotely relevant to paperclip maximization. For instance, it may determine that the best course of action is to gain control of Australian politics, in order to access the country’s rich iron resources. To do this, it might try to tune itself to become the best psychological controller of all time, which in turn involves a variety of skills that at first seem unrelated to paperclip-making.

23、To show empathy is to identify with another’s feelings. It is to emotionally put yourself in the place of another. The ability to empathize is directly dependent on your ability to feel your own feelings and identify them.
If you have never felt a certain feeling, it will be hard for you to understand how another person is feeling. If you have never put your hand in a flame, you will not know the pain of fire. If you have not experienced jealousy, you will not understand its power. Reading about a feeling and intellectually knowing about it is very different than actually experiencing it for yourself.
Among those with an equal level of emotional intelligence, the person who has actually experienced the widest range and variety of feelings — the great depths of depression and the heights of fulfillment, for example, — is the one who is most able to empathize. On the other hand, when we say that someone “can’t relate” to other people, it is likely because they haven’t experienced, acknowledged or accepted many feelings of their own.
Once you have felt discriminated against, for example, it is much easier to relate with someone else who has been discriminated against. Our innate emotional intelligence gives us the ability to quickly recall those instances and form associations when we encounter discrimination again. We then can use the “reliving” of those emotions to guide our thinking and actions. This is one of the ways nature slowly evolves towards a higher level of survival.
For this process to work, the first step is that we must be able to experience our own emotions. This means we must be open to them and not distract ourselves from them or try to numb ourselves from our feelings through drugs, alcohol, etc.
Next, we need to become aware of what we are actually feeling — to acknowledge, identify, and accept our feelings. Only then can we empathize with others. That is one reason why it is important to work on your own emotional awareness and sensitivity — in other words, to be “in touch with” your feelings.
【1】How does the author explain the feelings of empathy?
A.By giving examples.
B.By having classification.
C.By making comparison.
D.By providing data.
【2】Which statement may the author agree with?
A.Low level of empathy leads to fewer varieties of feelings.
B.The deeper one’s feelings are, the more empathetic one is.
C.Empathy is a way we recently picked up for better survival.
D.Rich experiences may not go with a high level of empathy.
【3】What’s the purpose of the last two paragraphs of the text?
A.To advise a sincere attitude to one’s experiences.
B.To suggest a right understanding of empathy.
C.To require a real bond with one’s emotions.
D.To call for true acceptance of one’s feelings.
【4】What is the best title for the text?

B.Be Open to Your Emotions
C.Why Is Empathy Important

24、 Road rage is commonly seen or often happens in our daily lives. There have been countless stories about this new and scary phenomenon, considered a type of aggressive driving. While drunk driving remains a critical problem, the facts about aggressive driving are surely as disturbing. For instance, last year alone, 41, 907 people died on the highways. Of those deaths, it’s estimated that about two-thirds were caused at last in part by aggressive driving behavior.
Why is this phenomenon occurring more than ever now? Experts have several theories, and all are probably partially correct. One suggestion is sheer overcrowding. In the last decade, the number of cars on the roads has increased by more than 11 percent, and the number of miles driven has increased by 35 percent. However, the number of new road miles has only increased by 1 percent. That means more cars in the same amount of space; and the problem is magnified in urban areas.
Also, people have less time and more things to do. With people working and trying to fit extra chores and activities into the day, stress levels have never been higher. Stress creates anxiety, which leads to short tempers. These factors, when combined in certain stations, can spell Road Rage.
You may think you are the last person who would drive aggressively, but you might be surprised. For instance, have you ever yelled out loud at a lower driver, sounded the born long and hard at another car, or sped up to keep another driver from passing? If you recognize yourself in any of these situations, watch out!
Whether you are getting angry at other drivers, or another driver is visibly upset with you, there are things you can do to avoid any major conflict. If you are easily influenced by road rage, the key is to discharge your emotion in a healthy way. If you are the target of another driver’s rage, do everything possible to get away from the other driver safely, including avoiding eye contact and getting out of their way.
【1】 Last year on the highways, .
A. approximately two thirds of drivers were killed by road rages
