21、 Award winning film Ballad from Tibet by Chinese director Zhang Wei was screened in New York City in March.
The film tells the story of four visually impaired kids from China’s Tibet going on a journey for their dreams.
Based on a true story, Ballad from Tibet is about the four Tibetan kids — Thupten, Sonam, Kelsang and Droma — achieving their dreams against all odds.
Thupten is a 10-year-old boy partially sighted in one eye and blind in the other. His doctor says that there is a chance that he could completely lose his sight, but there is an operation that could offer a 50 percent of saving his vision.
His teacher firmly suggests that he should have the operation right away, but Thupten is afraid and wants to see the world before his life is plunged into total darkness.
Along with his three friends who also suffer from blindness, Thupten goes on an exciting adventure. Together they decide to go to Shenzhen in South China’s Guangdong Province, a city more than 37,000km away from Tibetan capital Lhasa.
The reason for the children’s decision to go to Shenzhen is their love of music. They are all talented and want to sing their hearts out in front of the national audience by participating in a Shenzhen - based reality show.
The foursome’s trip is indeed fun, but also turns out to be dangerous. Luckily, help is on hand along the way in the form of a wandering family, a shepherd, a motorcycle club, and a TV producer’s assistant.
Ballad from Tibet has won the award for Best Children’s Feature at the 13th China International Children’s Film Festival in November 2017, and earned nominations at 17 different international children’s film festivals in Germany, Canada, Japan, Greece, Australia and India.

22、For the last couple of weeks, I had been stuck in front of my computer working on a project that was very important to me. My every waking hour was consumed by the project and although I imagined that I would feel happy after completing parts of the project, I was confused to find that instead, I was feeling rather depressed. I tried a range of methods to help cheer myself up. I had a relaxing bath, cooked a delicious meal to enjoy with my family and even watched a lighthearted movie, but to no avail. It was only when I turned to think for a solution that the answer came to me: turn to nature!
The very next day, I grabbed my camera and a bottle of water and set off to spend a few hours walking in a nature reserve, even though it was pouring with rain. Within a couple of minutes I felt alive again. To be honest, I felt like a young school girl again and had to stop myself from hopping along the path singing, "I'm singing in the rain", a song I used to sing when I was a child. I think as adults we often try too hard to control our inner children and as a result we limit our own spirits, which only leads to depression and stress.
Interestingly, it has been shown that people who spend 40 minutes walking in a nature reserve have a drop in their blood pressure levels, but this does not happen when they spend a similar amount of time walking in a busy city center.
If you feel a little low in spirit and know that you have spent too much time indoors, relax completely, remove your shoes and let your inner child come out and play.
【1】The reason why the author felt depressed is that_______.
A. she was afraid she couldn’t finish her work on time

C. her every waking hour was consumed by the project
D. the project was very important to her

A. adults should express their inner feelings freely
B. depression is usually caused by hard work
C. walking in a busy city center harms people's health
D. a bath can make people relaxed
【3】The last paragraph mainly serves as a(n) _______.

24、When looking at Western Europe,we don’t usually think about poverty—but in fact, some people in modern—day Britain are so hard up that they can’t afford to buy food.
Back in 2008,the financial crisis caused a lot of unemployment. Then there were the cuts to the welfare system in 2013 which added to the problem—and many British people fell into debt. It’s estimated that 500,000 people in the UK have turned to food banks, just to get by.
Steph Hagen, who works in a Nottingham food bank, says, “People do not go to a food bank because it's an open door. It’s a case where they go to it because they need to.With our food bank—we are an independent one.and we have limited stocks—everyone who comes through our door has no income.”
There are checks to make sure nobody is abusing the system. If a doctor or a social worker thinks someone needs to use a food bank—even for a short time—they can give them vouchers(凭证).Then the people in need takethemalong to the food bank and they get handouts for three days.
Churches and individual donors provide most of the food in the banks. But some businesses might help out too.
And what sort of food is offered in food banks? Hagen says, “Basically,we’ve got porridge. We do occasionally get fresh produce but it’s very rare, especially in the winter months. It’s like tinned fruit, tinned ready meals. We have to give out ‘no-cooking’ food parcels because people can’t afford the gas and electricity”.
Community spirit has a lot to do with food banks.Volunteers say they are a great meeting place for people who are lonely and depressed. And when facing a crisis, some beneficiaries might need to feed not only their belly—but also their soul.
【1】According to the text, the food bank is a place_____.
A. which is funded by the government
B. where people can get food randomly
C. which helps poor people live through crisis
D. where there is enough food supplies
【2】What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A. Systems. B. Doctors.
C. Social workers. D. Vouchers.
【3】Why do food banks mainly offer “no-cooking ” food?
A. Poor people have no money for gas and electricity.
B. The volunteers hate to supply cooked food.
C. Food banks can’t afford cooked food.
D. This kind of food is easy to store.
【4】What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Community spirit can cure those who are depressed.
B. Food banks benefit poor people mind and body.
C. People can have great fun in food banks.
D. Volunteers tend to feel lonely and depressed in food banks.
