二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、After his father was rushed to the hospital, Yanatha Desouvre began to panic. So he did the one thing he knew would calm himself: He wrote. Over the next few weeks, Desouvre filled several notebooks, writing about his worry as well as his happy memories with his dad. “Writing allowed me to face my fear,” says Desouvre, “My pen was a tool to process the pain.”

He is in good company. An extensive body of research shows benefits to writing about a traumatic (创伤) experience in a manner that psychologists refer to as “expressive writing.”James Pennebaker, a psychology professor, says that studies have looked at the potential benefits of expressive writing and found that it can strengthen the immune system, including for people with illnesses such as cancer, depression, and PTSD(创伤后应激障碍). It can also help reduce chronic pain(慢性痛), and improve mood, sleep, and memory. And it may even help reduce symptoms of depression and PTSD.

Expressive writing works because it allows you to make meaning out of a painful experience, experts say. It can be a powerful coping tool for many, in large part because it helps reduce the secrecy people often feel about a trauma, as well as their reluctance to face emotions. The mere act of labeling a feeling—of putting words to an emotion—can hold back the neural activity in the threat area of the brain. Writing can increase someone’s acceptance of their experience, and acceptance is calming.

Recognizing that something is bothering you is an important first step. Translating that experience into language forces you to organize your thoughts. And creating a narrative gives you a sense of control.

【1】Why is Desouvre’s story mentioned in Paragraph 1?

    A.To bring up the topic.

    B.To make a comparison.

C.To tell readers a real story.

D.To explore the key to writing.

【2】What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?

    A.The results traumatic experience causes.

B.The benefits that expressive writing brings.

    C.The symptoms traumatic experience shows.

D.The ways expressive writing strengthens immunity.

【3】What can we conclude about expressive writing?

    A.It contributes to better writing.

B.It lets us know how people obtain pain.

C.It can help face miserable experience.

D.It has been used widely in the daily life.

【4】Where is the passage probably taken from?

    A.A text book.

    B.A news report.

    C.A writing guide.

    D.A medical magazine.

  • 22、Video conferencing has been around for more than 20 years. Until the Covid-19 pandemic, though, you would find that many people needing to attend a meeting remotely would be calling from a real conference room full of their teammates. Today, we're routinely holding video conferences that are 100% virtual (虚拟).And this is creating a problem that technology can't fix.

The problem is us, specifically the fact that we haven't evolved socially to the point where we can bear much separation. So much of our well-being and work productivity is decided on how close we are physically. The removal of that for any period of time can be severely damaging. One surprising victim of social distancing is laughter

Normally people laugh about 18 times per day. And 97% of that time we're laughing with others - we are 30 times more likely to laugh with others than to laugh alone. Think about it: how often when you and your friends laugh at something, is that something actually funny? Research shows that 80% of what people laugh at is really not that funny.

So why do people laugh? They laugh in order to laugh with others. Just as everyone starts yawning (打哈欠) when just one person yawns, most people can't help but laugh when those around them do. This is why TV comedy shows often use prerecorded laugh tracks.

Laughing in response to other people's laughing is not just a behavioral phenomenon. When we laugh, our body produces two key chemicals: endorphin which helps relieve pain and sets off feelings of pleasure, and dopamine which can improve learning, motivation and attention. In fact, studies show that people can stand 15% more pain simply by laughing for a few minutes beforehand. Laughter is also associated with higher motivation and productivity at work.

In today's home-alone, virtual-team world, this is exactly what you as a team leader should be doing: for your team members to stay healthy and productive, you need to get them to laugh more and stress less.

【1】What is the problem mentioned at the start of the text?

    A.Physical weakness.

    B.Lack of technology.

    C.Social distancing.

    D.Reliance or virtual conference.

【2】The underlined word “This” in paragraph 4 refers to the fact that

    A.laugh tracks are popular

    B.laughing is uncontrollable

    C.laughing starts with yawning

D.laughing comes more easily in groups

【3】What is paragraph 5 mainly about?

A.Why laughing is important to work.

B.How laughing keeps us physically healthy.

C.Whether laughing is a behavioral phenomenon.

D.What chemicals our body produces when we laugh

【4】What would the author most probably discuss next?

A.Concrete steps to produce laughter in a team.

B.Other factors that may influence a team's health.

C.Ways to tell the real world from the virtual world.

D.The importance of maintaining work productivity.

  • 23、A recent housing project in Helsinki offers remarkably cheap apartments for those under the age of 25. They must commit to spending time with their older neighbors.

Helsinki offers 247-suqare-foot studio apartments with a bathroom, storage space, kitchen, and balcony for only $272 every month—about a third of the average price for a studio in the city. The apartment is inside homes for the elderly, and the young renter must spend between three to five hours with their elderly neighbors each week.

Like pretty much all other major cities in the world, Finland’s capital of Helsinki has faced rapid population growth in recent years. And with population growth, comes an inevitable rise in the cost of living, and of course, sharp increase in rent. Currently, Helsinki is ranked 14th on the list of the world’s most expensive cities. For those young and freshly independent, this causes terrible problems — even homelessness.

"It's a very expensive city to live in," Mr. Bostrom writes in an email to CNN’s Eoghan Macguire. "If you manage to get an apartment that the city owns, it can be quite affordable. The screening criteria included the ability to participate in a variety of activities, such as cooking or playing instruments, but the number of applicants for those apartments is so high that waiting list takes forever,” he says.

According to Helsinki’s Youth Housing Association, the city council aims to ensure that every young person will have a home by 2018. Miki Mielonen, a representative of the youth department, says this project, currently in its trial stages, will help out young people while offering social benefits to senior citizens. “I think there is quite a rigid opinion in Finland with many people thinking young of the old ideas that we are going to break down.”

1Helsinki probably rents a cheap apartment to a young man who ________.

    A. reaches the age of 25

    B. has financial problems

    C. promises to accompany the elderly

    D. agrees to share it with his neighbor

2Which is the root reason for the housing problems in Helsinki?

    A. The population explosion.

    B. The high living standard.

    C. World’s priciest apartment rent.

    D. Low employment of college graduates.

3According to Mr Bostrom, the cheap apartments are ________.

    A. well-decorated   B. difficult to afford

    C. in short supply   D. popular with technicians

4What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

    A. The young in Helsinki are mostly homeless.

    B. Helsinki will overcome people’s prejudice.

    C. The project will be experimental in future.

    D. The project is more beneficial to the young.

  • 24、Who is your role model? Normally the answer to this question would be anyone around you who you find truly inspiring. It could also be someone like J. K. Rowling or Martin Luther King. Jr. , who have proven to be strong and intelligent people.

However, in today’s world, stars are regarded as role models along with the heroes listed above, despite their intentions or actions. Teens attempt to imitate their actions for two major reasons. Firstly, to be fashionable and accepted by popular culture, and secondly because stars’ actions are so well documented by the media that it seems to grab our attention and turns it to following stars’ lives. Much of the reports about stars is shocking and exhibits bad morals or lifestyles that aren’t right for teenagers. In addition, almost everything stars do is described beyond truth to make a shocking story by taking it to the next level.

However, teens must take responsibility for their actions. We can’t always blame stars for influencing us. Only you have control over yourself and only you choose to do something. Our bodies and actions are in the hands of no one else.

Now, whoever said stars are role models? Whether they choose to be or not, stars set examples as soon as they step into the spotlight. With reporters following and recording every move they make, it is impossible not to be watched and then be imitated. These people influence teens whether or not they want to. Why should someone who doesn’t want to be setting an example set one? So,should we look up to them or to people who are true and good role models? It’s our responsibility as teens to know right from wrong, and it’s time for us to take responsibility for our actions. In doing so,we will lean toward those inspiring people that want to be setting an example, and follow in their steps to be like them.

【1】 According to the first paragraph, _______ can usually be role models.

    A. political leaders

    B. wealthy writers

    C. people inspiring others

    D. people with great intelligence

【2】What are the major reasons for the teens to imitate stars?

    A. Interest in stars’ life and expectation of getting rich.

    B. Motivation for being fashionable and inspiration from popular examples.

    C. Intentions to gain acceptance and encouragement from stars’ lifestyle.

    D. Desires to be stylish and great influence from the mass media.

【3】 The author writes the passage mainly to advise the teenagers to _______.

    A. have a control over their own bodies and actions

    B. be responsible for their own choices and behaviors

    C. follow fashionable stars’ steps to be more popular

    D. choose right role models according to different reports

【4】It can be inferred from the passage that _______.

    A. stars have the responsibility for teenagers’ actions

    B. not all famous stars choose to influence teenagers

    C. teenagers choose those inspiring people as their role models

    D. stars set examples immediately they stepped into the spotlight
