二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Forget fetching sticks and chewing bones, that's so last century. Today's dogs have much more exciting options when it comes to hobbies-including video calling their owners.

And who let the dogs online? That would be DogPhone inventor Ilyena Hirskyj-Douglas, a lecturer and assistant prolessor in Animal-Computer Interaction at the University of Glasgow in Sootland.

Hirskyj-Douglas observed that in the curtent pet tech market, the user experience is centered around the owner, rather than the dog, so she set out to change that. After creating and testing her device, she published her findings and says they're particularly relevant at a time when some pets are experiencing separation anxiety after spending months with their owners during the pandemic(大瘟疫).

“No one's really done this sort of stuff before," Hirskyj-Douglas said. "Where do we even begin making things from a dog viewpoint?" To answer that question, she didn't have to look too far-her own10-year-old black dog,Zach, provided ample inspiration for how such a communication device could work.

With the help of researchers from her former workplace, Aalto University in Finland, Hirsky) Douglas created the DogPhone-a sensor hidden inside s ball that makes a video call from a computer whenever it is moved.

Although Hirskyj-Douglas isn't completely sure that Zach was aware he was calling her each time he used the ball, she said she never trained him to use it, and she believes more dog*centric tech is needed on the market."The way that we make devices for dogs currently is not really the same standard as we make for humans-we're treating them a bit like they don't really have any agency(能动性)," she said."The animals that we keep in our lives are a lot smarter and deserve a lot better technology than what we have for them,"

Whether he was aware or not, Zach kept Hirskyj-Douglas's phone ringing-by the end of the experiment,he was calling her up to five times a day. But when she tried to call him, he didn't always answer--which he could do by moving the ball.

【1】What is the user experience focused on in the pet tech market?

    A.The pet owner.

    B.The pet itself.

    C.The technology.

    D.The industry standard.

【2】What does the underlined word "ample" in paragraph 4 probably mean?

    A.Fresh.

    B.Sudden.

    C.Enough.

    D.Useless.

【3】How does the dog react to a video call in the experiment?

    A.By barking loudly.

    B.By moving the ball.

    C.By touching the sensor

    D.By pointing to the computer.

【4】What's the best title of the text?

    A.A Promising Pet Tech Market

B.How to Relieve Your Dog's Anxiety

C.The Device That Lets Your Dog Call You

    D.A Talented Inventor Ilyena Hirskyj-Douglas

  • 23、Given that the dictionary definition of curiosity is “the desire to know something”, it may be of little surprise that much research has concerned its benefits for education.

Consider a study at the University of California at Davis in 2014. The researchers first asked each participant to rate their curiosity about learning the answers to a series of questions, such as “What does the term ‘dinosaur’ actually mean?” The participants then lay in an fMRI brain scanner (扫描仪) while the same questions were presented, followed shortly after by the answers. The participants were then tested on their recollection of the facts an hour later.

The effects of curiosity on later recall were striking. When the participants were highly curious about a fact, they were 30% more likely to recall it. And this seemed to correspond to heightened activity in areas of the midbrain that release dopamine (多巴胺). Dopamine is normally associated with reward, but animal studies suggest that it can also enhance the formation of new neural(神经的) connections. It looked as if the feeling of curiosity was helping prepare the brain to absorb the new and important information, and this then resulted in a more stable memory.

Interestingly, the researchers found that the dopamine hit, arising from initial curiosity, could even enhance the memory of incidental information that had no direct relevance to the primary question. To demonstrate this, they had presented random faces alongside the answers to the questions and, an hour later, checked whether the participants still recognized the faces. The analyses showed that the participants were far more likely to remember the face if it had accompanied a question that had awakened their curiosity.

This additional, and unexpected, memory boost could be extremely useful whenever we’re trying to learn something new and complicated. We’re unlikely, after all, to find every single element of our studies interesting. But if we can develop some curiosity about at least some of the facts, we may find that the rest of the material also sticks far more easily.

【1】Which aspect of curiosity did the study focus on?

    A.Its scientific definition.

    B.Its unique characteristics.

    C.Its influences on memory.

    D.Its benefits for brain health.

【2】What was the purpose of presenting questions to the participants first?

    A.To assess their learning ability.

B.To awaken their passion for learning.

C.To measure their curiosity about the questions.

D.To refresh their memory of extinct wild animals.

【3】What can be learned about dopamine according to Paragraph 3?

    A.It blocks memory.

    B.It facilitates learning.

    C.It promotes friendship.

    D.It cures neural disorder.

【4】Which message about learning does the unexpected finding deliver?

    A.Generate interest in study.

    B.Locus on essential information.

    C.Make learning materials related.

    D.Attach importance to memorization.
