二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Last September, Dobbs Ferry School District joined a small but growing number of schools around the US that have started pushing back their middle and high school start times in an effort to prevent students from being groggy.

Dr. Lisa Brady, the head teacher of the schools, tells Business Insider that in the past 2015-16 school year, middle school started at 8:15 a.m. and high school at 7:30 a.m. Under the new policy, each school now starts and ends 45 minutes later. Both schools have benefited a lot, Brady says.

Following a survey at the end of the school year, Brady says “it was clear from both the parents and the kids, that the mornings were just less stressful.”

Many of the kids reported having more time to eat breakfast and get ready for school, while parents said they didn’t have to drag kids out of bed or yell at them to hurry up. Once students got to school, they felt more active. At night, they tended to go to bed at the same time, even though the new schedule leaves them an extra 45 minutes.

Tony is also a math teacher, and he says, kids seem more relaxed now in the campus and his students already produce better work steadily, even though the schedule just a month old. Around the campus, kids seem more relaxed now that they’re not juggling as much work as early in the day.

Negative responses to later start times are rare, but they do happen.

Brady says some parents at Dobbs Ferry have found it harder to complete the necessary morning routines and get to work on time. Meanwhile, Tony says the problem for school is finding enough buses for kids. And some students say once they finally get home, many say they have less time for all the homework they’ve been assigned.

    D.8:05 a.m.

【3】Which of the following is not a result of the new school policy?

A.Students can have more sleep than before.

  • 22、Do you ever pull your phone out of your pocket, thinking it is vibrating (振动), only to find that it isn't?

This phenomenon, which scientists call "phantom(幻觉的) phone vibration", is very common. Around 80%o of people surveyed say they have imagined their phones vibrating when they were actually still.

So, what leads to this universal behavior? According to the BBC, the explanation lies in your brain’s ability to discover signals from the outside world.

When your phone is in your pocket, there are two possible states it is either vibrating or not. Meanwhile, you also have two possible states of mind: the judgment that the phone is vibrating, or that it isn’t. Ideally, you match the four states correctly. Howewer, sometimes your brain decides that the consequences of missing a call are more serious than a "false alarm". Therefore you become more sensitive to vibrations so that you don’t miss anything.

This is just like the fire alarm in your home- it can be annoying when it goes off in response to just a tiny bit of smoke. But that's a small price to pay compared to a fire really breaking out because the alarm fails to alert you. Now, you might still ask why can’t our brains just make every judgment correctly without being too sensitive to false signals? The answer is that your brain bears a heavy burden every day. “You get a large amount of sensory information that’s coming from your eyes, ears and skin, and you can’t deal with all that information all the time,” Michael Rothberg a researcher at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, US, told Live Science.

For example, the rustling(沙沙声) of clothing or the growling(咕咕声) of your stomach may both lead your brain to believe that they come from the vibration of your phone -it is like trying to hear your name being called in a noisy room.

So, perhaps you should just check your phone whenever you think it's vibrating. It's not too much trouble to do that. is it?

【1】According to this passage phantom phone vibration

A.is common among people with mental problems

B.happens when our brains react sensitively to false signals

C.can measure people’s ability to collect information

D.helps our brains to make decisions quickly and accurately.

【2】Why did the author use the example of hire alarm in this passage?

A.To help us understand the cause of phantom phone vibration better.

B.To tell us the phone vibration usually happens when a fire breaks out.

C.To show us the fire alarm is as sensitive as the phone vibration,.

D.To convince us it's important to check our phones like checking a fire alarm

【3】Accordingto Michael Rothberg which is mainly responsible for phantom phone vibration?

    A.A lack of much attention

    B.A noisy background.

    C.An overflow of sensory information.

    D.A heavy burden every day.

【4】What does the author suggest we do about phantom phone vibration?

A.We should always fully believe our own sense of listening.

B.We should just check our phones whenever we think they’re vibrating

C.We should ignore the vibration bothering when our phones are actually still.

D.We should think of the vibration carefully.

  • 23、Sake(日本米酒)is produced in almost every corner of Japan. It has a place in the soul of the Japanese and has been woven into the history and culture of Japan.

I’ve been told to leave Tokyo if I really want to understand the drink since it is a product of the countryside in Japan: rice from the fields, water from the mountains.

“You can tell a great deal about a place from the sake produced there. It’s made with local water and local rice. So when you taste it, you’re truly tasting a part of local culture, ” explains Koichi Hasegawa, the 13th-generation owner of Buko Shuzo Brewery in Chichibu, one of the closest towns to Tokyo.

As I taste my way through the different grades of sake, Hasegawa speaks poetically of the drink. “Sake is an important part of the journey of life. It’s present at birthdays, weddings and funerals, ” he says. “Drinking sake beneath the cherry trees in spring or under the autumn moon, drinkers might think over the beginning and ending in their lives. No sake, no life. ”

For much of its history, sake-making was reserved for temples, and sake still plays a key part in Japan’s religious ceremony. People believe its giddy(微醺的)effect helps them communicate with gods.

“On first taste, sake is delicious. Before long, it kicks you off your feet, ” says Yogoemon Ide, the president of Ide Sake Brewery—a family-operated brewery that has been in business for 21 generations—near Mount Fuji, Japan’s highest and holiest mountain. “I think sake is a supernatural liquid. It was originally used to spread the word of God. ”

Stepping out of Yogoemon Ide’s brewery and gazing up at Mount Fuji, I recognize an additional taste of the lde sake: an aftertaste of the cold, unfriendly climate around the potentially life-threatening volcanic mountain.

【1】What can be learned about sake from the text?

A.It is unacceptable to drink it in temples.

B.It is better to taste it in the countryside.

C.It is just reserved for special events in Japan.

D.It is an old-fashioned drink made in big cities.

【2】The Ide sake most probably reminds the author of ______.

    A.the uncertainty of life

    B.the birth of his children

    C.his boring daily work

    D.his wedding happiness

【3】Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?

A.The Oldest Sake Producers in Japan

    B.Tastes of Different Japanese Sakes

    C.Beautiful Countryside Sceneries in Japan

D.My Experience With “the Drink of Japan”

【4】In which section of a newspaper may this text appear?

    A.Advertisement.

    B.Travel.

    C.Agriculture.

    D.Science.

  • 24、At present, animated (动画) films are popular with us. Most of them rely heavily on computer technology. But this magical world where witches (魔法师) cast spells and castles float in the sky is brought to life by hand, Nevertheless, Hayao Miyazaki is referred to as Japan’s Walt Disney and considered by many to be the world’s greatest living animator.

This month, the 72-year-old Miyazaki announced his retirement. The Japanese animator has directed 11 animated full-length films over the past four decades, including the Oscar-winning Spirited Away (《千与千寻》) and his latest release, The Wind Rises (《起风了》), which tells the life story of a man who designed Japanese World War II fighter planes.

Just as The Wind Rises shows, Miyazaki is well-known for his obsession with flight, especially human flight. Other attractive aspects of Miyazaki’s films include his themes of environmental protection and the horrors of war.

Miyazaki’s work is also famous for its lack of clearly defined good and evil characters. He sees the 21st century as a complex time when old standards need to be re-examined.

As a storyteller, he is an inventor of fairy tales full of mystery. In the Miyazakian universe, wizards (巫师) turn into birds of prey; young girls are transformed overnight into 90-year-old women; greedy parents are changed into pigs; and shooting stars become fire demons (恶魔).

People attribute Miyazaki’s success to his long pursuit of his hand-drawn technique, although in an interview with CNN he called himself an “extinct species” in the age of digital animation.

A recent television documentary on the making of The Wind Rises showed a disappointed Miyazaki throwing a pile of drawings into the trash. He is said to have redrawn thousands of frames of the much-praised Princess Mononoke (《幽灵公主》) when they did not meet his standards.

But his huge attention to detail has earned him the respect of the entire animated film world. Even John Lasseter head of Pixar, the famous US computer animation studio once called Miyazaki “one of the greatest filmmakers of our time”.

【1】What can we know about Miyazaki’s film The Wind Rises?

    A. It was put on a long time ago.

    B. Miyaznki was once unsatisfied with some of the drawings.

    C.It describes environmental protection.

    D.It is an Oscar-winning film.

【2】What does the underlined word obsession mean in paragraph 3?

    A. Hatred.  B. Enthusiasm.  C. Envy.  D. Sympathy.

【3】What makes Miyazaki earn the respect of the entire animated film world?

    A. His emphasis on detail.

    B. His pursuit of the hand-drawn technique.

    C. His dependence on computer technology.

    D. His definition of good and evil characters.
