21、Everyone at Pacsafe is always eager to get out in the world and enjoy new cultures, food, and experiences. With that in mind we asked a few of our top travel bugs for their best travel destination recommendations for 2019. They also included their favorite Pacsafe bag to take on the trip. Enjoy and hopefully get some ideas for your own globe-trotting adventure.
Sri Lanka---Alison Hanko, Global Marketing Director
I’m going to Sri Lanka this summer holiday and can’t wait. It’s close to Hong Kong where I live and I’ve always wanted to go. The food is supposed to be amazing. It seems really relaxing and I really want to do the Kandy to Badulla train ride, which looks just stunning. We’ve booked a good mix of beaches, some time in a safari tent to hopefully see elephants in the wild.
For my bag, I’ll most likely take the Quiksilver 40L Pack because it has the built-in wet pack for my bikinis. It’s also a great size for a week-long trip in a warm climate.
Japan---Ben Barras, Creative Director
Japan is definitely my best travel destination recommendation. The culture, the streets, the architecture, the inspiration you get from all of that is amazing. The food is also fascinating. It’s where I’m most planning to go. Tokyo obviously, but also visiting the mountains. You can go snowboarding, which I haven’t done for years.
I have a Vibe 25L Backpack which you can pack a lot in. The thing I like most about it is that it’s compact, but still fits plenty in. I’ll pair that up with a larger travel bag for the rest of my things and use the backpack to get around day to day.
Berlin---Phil Hayes, Executive VP of Global Design
For me, it’s definitely Berlin. I’m particularly excited about the fashion, which I hear is pretty full on. Also the art galleries and history. Food, nightlife. Everything I’ve heard about Berlin is pretty cool, so I’m going to suck as much as I can out of it. World’s Global Style Network had the Berlin shopping list that came out recently, so I’m going to follow that through as well.
Bag wise, it will be the Quiksilver X Collab Bag. It’s the 25L Anti-theft Backpack. It’s normally my go-to bag for city trips because it’s super easy to lock on the plane and in bars, and it’s just the right amount of space.

22、When looking at Western Europe,we don’t usually think about poverty—but in fact, some people in modern—day Britain are so hard up that they can’t afford to buy food.
Back in 2008,the financial crisis caused a lot of unemployment. Then there were the cuts to the welfare system in 2013 which added to the problem—and many British people fell into debt. It’s estimated that 500,000 people in the UK have turned to food banks, just to get by.
Steph Hagen, who works in a Nottingham food bank, says, “People do not go to a food bank because it's an open door. It’s a case where they go to it because they need to.With our food bank—we are an independent one.and we have limited stocks—everyone who comes through our door has no income.”
There are checks to make sure nobody is abusing the system. If a doctor or a social worker thinks someone needs to use a food bank—even for a short time—they can give them vouchers(凭证).Then the people in need takethemalong to the food bank and they get handouts for three days.
Churches and individual donors provide most of the food in the banks. But some businesses might help out too.
And what sort of food is offered in food banks? Hagen says, “Basically,we’ve got porridge. We do occasionally get fresh produce but it’s very rare, especially in the winter months. It’s like tinned fruit, tinned ready meals. We have to give out ‘no-cooking’ food parcels because people can’t afford the gas and electricity”.
Community spirit has a lot to do with food banks.Volunteers say they are a great meeting place for people who are lonely and depressed. And when facing a crisis, some beneficiaries might need to feed not only their belly—but also their soul.

23、Have you ever been out on a walk and noticed someone standing very still, looking up at the branches of a tree or down at the ground? They are fully engaged in what they are seeing. Do you stop to try and see what they are looking at? Do you ask them what they see?
I have learned that there is always something interesting to see and hear if I take the time to stop and ask. The first time I did this I was gifted with seeing my first bald eagle. The person who pointed the eagle out told me there was a pair who were always around the trail. I have not seen the eagle since, but I keep my eyes open.
And just a few days ago I was walking home when I saw a young man looking absorbedly upwards. I asked what he was looking at. He was so excited and amazed; he had never seen that breed of bird before and did not know the bird’s name. I looked intently and finally saw the small bird he was looking at, a Downy woodpecker.
We watched with amazement as the woodpecker went about his work. The young man stood on his side of the road and I on mine and we discussed the birds he had seen.
I shared with him the little bit of knowledge that I have about woodpeckers and hopefully I was correct. As we parted, he thanked me very politely for chatting with him. So worth stopping and sharing a moment, each of us amazed by what we had witnessed. Please feel free to share if you are so inspired.

24、California start-up OpenAI has released a chatbot (chat robot) able to answer a variety of questions, but its impressive performance has reopened the debate on the risks linked to AI technologies.
Posted on Twitter by fascinated users, the conversations with the chatbot called ChatGPT show a kind of omniscient (无所不知的) machine, from explaining scientific concepts to writing scenes for a play, university essays or even functional lines of computer code.
“Its answer to the question ‘what to do if someone has a heart attack’ was incredibly clear and relevant,” Claude de Loupy, an expert in automatic text generation told AFP. “When you start asking very specific questions, ChatGPT’s response can be off the mark, but its overall performance remains ‘really impressive’ with a ‘high level’.” he said.
A few years ago, chatbots had the vocabulary of a dictionary and the memory of a goldfish. Now Chatbots are getting much better at the “history problem” where they act in a manner consistent with the history of responses. The chatbots have graduated from goldfish status.
However, like other programs relying on deep learning, ChatGPT has one major weakness: it doesn’t have access to meaning. The software cannot justify its choices, such as explaining why it picked the words that make up its responses.
AI technologies able to communicate are increasingly worrying some observers. They voice concern that these technologies could be misused to trick people. What does ChatGPT think of the risk? “There are potential dangers in building highly complex chatbots, particularly if they are designed to be indistinguishable from humans in their language and behavior.” the chatbot said.
Open AI CEO Sam Altman shared his ideas on the debates surrounding AI. “Interesting watching people start to debate whether powerful AI systems should behave in the way users want or their creators intend,” he wrote, “The question of whose values we adjust these systems to will be one of the most important debates society ever has.”
【1】How does paragraph 2 show ChatGPT’s wonderful performance?
A.By using figures.
B.By listing examples.

D.By making comparisons.
【2】What does the underlined phrase “off the mark” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Creative.
B.Inaccurate.
C.Immediate.
D.Objective.
【3】Which statement is Sam Altman most likely to agree with?
A.The value that AI follows remains to be discussed.
B.Advanced AI should go after creators’ intention.
C.The function of AI relies entirely on users.
D.Debates on the application of AI are unnecessary.

Before long, it was easy for me to get tired. The more I texted during the day, the poor my sleep was. I couldn’t even focus on my study.
My friend told me that people who can’t help checking their phones all day are known as Phubbers (低头族). Phubbing trends not only to involve the young people, but also the elderly. Soon, I noticed a Stop Phubbing campaign site had been launched. I found the slogan of the website as follows: stop twittering, stop posting photos…enjoy your food, enjoy the music and respect your campaign.
Thankfully, I realized there was actually an outside world. My divided attention could keep me from what is truly important. Now, I can use the phone without feeling like a drug addict. I have more time to enjoy real-life activities. Use your cell phone and don’t let it use you.
