26、Life is so much shorter than you think. The average person in the United States lives only 27, 375 days.【1】 To have a quality life, you have to let go of those people who steal the happiness from you, and surround yourself with those who make you laugh and happy. Here are four harmful types of people you should avoid in life.
Those who deny your dream.
If you are surrounded by people who deny your dream or make fun of it because they think it’s unachievable, it is not good. 【2】 You should avoid them and instead surround yourself with people who believe in your dream and support you.
Those who push their own ideas.
There are a lot of selfish people who act as if everything they say is right, and try to deny what you say. No matter how much you explain, those who deny your ideas and push their own ideas to you will never understand. So it’s completely a waste of time, and just leave away. 【3】
Those who only think about themselves.
Selfish people are harmful in your life. They basically only care about their own happiness and joy, so they usually treat you badly because they are too selfish to care about how you feel. 【4】 Therefore, stay with those people who can understand you. If you have people who share your happiness and pain as if it were theirs, never let them go.
【5】
Don’t you have those people around you who speak negatively, who believe negatively and who tell you their negative ideas. They are alone, living in a sad and negative world so they are trying to bring you into their world, by making you believe that life is full of sadness and unhappiness.
A.Those who are always negative.
B.They can influence you in a bad way.
C.Those who don’t believe in a “Happy Ending”.
D.Don’t let yourself believe in their stupid ideas.
E.Life is a very cold place without understanding.
F.Life is too short to spend time with people who steal your joy and happiness.
G.Be with open-minded people who will accept your ideas and discuss with you calmly.
27、The weather is getting hotter. You are thirsty playing basketball or riding home from school. A cold drink may be just the thing. But be careful what you are drinking. Something that looks cool may not be good for your health.
There are plenty of "energy drinks" on the market. Most of them have beautiful colors and cool names. The lists on them tell you they are helpful to your health. Sounds great!
But after a careful check you may find that most energy drinks have lots of caffeine (咖啡因) in them. These drinks are especially aimed at young people, students, busy people and sports players. Makers sometimes say their drinks make you better at sports and can keep you awake. But be careful not to drink too much.
Caffeine makes your heart beat fast. Because of this, the International Olympic Committee has limited( 限制) its use. Caffeine in most energy drinks is at least as strong as that in a cup of coffee or tea. Possible health dangers have something to do with energy drinks. Scientists say that teenagers should be discouraged from taking drinks with a lot of caffeine in them.

28、 Michael Evans was standing in line at the Wayne County Treasurer's Office in Detroit last August, waiting to pay his taxes when he heard a disturbing sound ahead of him. The elderly woman at the window was crying and so was the cashier helping her. Then Evans learned why: He heard the cashier inform the woman that her house was headed for auction(拍卖). He also heard the woman tell the cashier that her daughter had recently died.
Evans, a businessman who had just buried his father, couldn't stomach the idea of this woman losing her home right after losing her child. He approached the window. "I don't mean to cut in," he said to the cashier, "but if you can get her house back, I'll pay for her taxes." The amount due: $ 5, 000.
The two women were shocked. Their despair turned to disbelief. The cashier left for a moment to confirm the amount and that it was all right for Evans to pay it. Evans went straight to the bank and came right back with the money. But when he returned to the treasurer's office, he asked someone else waiting in line to hand the $ 5, 000 check to the cashier. 29、 There are plenty of health benefits of spending time in the great outdoors. According to a study published in the International Journal of Environmental Health Research, people who grew up with access to nature may have better mental health as adults than those who did not.
To test their hypothesis (假设) ,researchers sent questionnaires to 3, 585 adults aged 18 to 75 in four European cities on topics such as how often they visited natural spaces as children and now as adults. Participants were also given psychological test to determine the state of their mental health in the last month. Adults with low levels of nature exposure during childhood saw “significantly worse” mental health issues and did not view natural spaces as much importance in adulthood as those who spent more time growing up outside.
Researchers say that their findings show the importance of childhood exposure to natural spaces as it relates to developing an appreciation of nature and healthy psychological state in adulthood.
This is particularly significant, because almost three-quarters of Europeans currently live in urban areas with little access to green spaces. That number is expected to increase to 80 percent in the next three decades. Mental health has been shown to be negatively influenced by urban environments due to exposure to noise, crowds and a lack of green spaces among other things. Children who lead inactive lifestyles are more likely to have a lower quality of life and physical health.
“Many children in Europe lead an indoor lifestyle, so it would be desirable to make natural outdoor environments available, attractive and safe for them to play in," said study author Mark Nieuwenhuijsen, director of ISGlobal's Urban Planning, Environment and Health Initiative. "We make a call on policymakers to improve the availability of natural spaces for children and green schoolyards."
【1】What inspiration do researchers take from their findings ?
A.the health of children's psychology.
B.the state of children's mental health.
C.the development of nature appreciation.
D.the importance of childhood exposure to nature.
【2】What can we infer from Paragraph 4 ?
A.Europeans prefer an inactive lifestyle.
B.European Children are in good physical health.

D.European Children probably suffer lower quality of life.
【3】What in the future is the study most likely to influence according to the last paragraph?
A.Urban planning.
B.Economic policies.
C.Child education.
D.Local tourism.
【4】What can be the best title for the text?
A.Indoor Activities Are Good for Children's Growth
B.Living in Urban Areas Harms Psychological Health
C.An Inactive Lifestyle Means a Lower Quality of Life
D.Childhood Exposure to Nature Benefits Mental Health

Ronny and Henry were two friends in the same class. They always played together and went home together. One day as Ronny and Henry were going home after school, they saw some students with the same school uniform fighting in the street corner. Ronny said excitedly, " Some people are fighting! Let's go and have a look! But Henry refused, "I don't think so. It's dangerous. We'd better tell our teachers, who have rich experience to solve this kind of things. Besides, our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together at home and I don't want them to worry about me."
“You are a coward, and afraid to go,” said Ronny, and off he ran to the spot with some other boys. Henry sighed, deciding to inform his teachers what happened. So now, the boys had different opinions about the definition of “bravery” . But what kind of things can be considered to be brave?
After that, Ronny thought Henry was a coward and told all the boys that. They laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down upon Henry and didn't want to play with him.
Henry was sad but he wasn't angry with Ronny for his rude behaviour , because he had learned that true courage was shown most in bearing misunderstanding when it was not deserved, and that he ought to be afraid of nothing but doing wrong. Thus, he just ignored the other boys’ laughter and continued to stick to his thought and go to school and study as well. However, Ronny didn't invite Henry to go home with him anymore. Instead, he had his new friends who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn't go home directly but went to the river or somewhere to play games and had lots of fun.
