26、Larry was on another of his underwater expeditions(探险)but this time, it was different. He decided to take his daughter along with him. She was only ten years old. This would be her first trip with her father on what he had always been famous for.
Larry first began diving when he was his daughter’s age. Similarly, his father had taken him along on one of his expeditions. Since then, he had never looked back. Larry started out by renting diving suits from the small diving shop just along the shore. He had hated them. They were either too big or too small. Then, there was the instructor. He gave him a short lesson before allowing him into the water with his father. He had made an exception. Larry would never have been able to go down without at least five hours of theory and another similar number of hours on practical lessons with a guide. Children at his age were not even allowed to dive.
After the first expedition, Larry’s later diving adventures only got better and better. There was never a dull moment. In his black and blue suit and with an oxygen tank fastened on his back, Larry dived from boats into the middle of the ocean. Dangerous areas did not prevent him from continuing his search. Sometimes, he was limited to a cage underwater but that did not bother him. At least, he was still able to take photographs of the underwater creatures.
Larry’s first expedition without his father was in the Cayman Islands. There were numerous diving spots in the area and Larry was determined to visit all of them .Fortuna for him, a man offered to take him around the different spots for free.______________________________________________________. The diving spots afforded such a wide range of fish and sea creatures that Larry saw more than thirty varieties of creatures.
Larry looked at his daughter. She looked as excited as he had been when he was her age. He hoped she would be able to continue the family tradition. Already, she looked like she was much braver than had been then. This was the key to a successful underwater expedition.

27、Almost everyone stood when the bride walked down the aisle in her white dress, but not the wedding conductor, because she was fixed on her chair.
The wedding was led by “IFairy”,a 1.5meter tall seated robot with flashing eyes and plastic hair. Sunday's wedding was the first time a marriage had been led by a robot, according to manufacturer,Kokoro Co.
“Please lift the bride's veil (面纱),” the robot said in a tinny voice, waving its arms in the air as the newlymarried couple kissed in front of about 50 guests.
The wedding took place at a restaurant in Hibiya Park in central Tokyo, where the IFairy wore flowers and directed a rooftop ceremony. Wires led out from beneath it to a black curtain a few feet away, where a man clicked commands into a computer.
Japan has one of the most advanced robotics industries in the world, with the government actively supporting the field for future growth. Industrial models in factories are now standard, but recently Japanese companies have been making a push to inject robots into everyday life.
Honda makes a walking childshaped robot, and other firms have developed robots to entertain the elderly or play baseball. Kokoro, whose corporate goal is to “touch the hearts of the people”,also makes giant dinosaur robots for exhibitions and lifelike Android models that can smile and laugh. The company is a subcompany of Sanrio Co.,which owns the rights to Hello Kitty and other Japanese characters.
“This was a lot of fun. I think that Japanese people have a strong sense that robots are our friends. Those in the robot industry mostly understand this, but people mainly want robots near them to serve some purpose,” said the bride,Satoko Inoue,36,who works at Kokoro.
The IFairy sells for about 6.3 million yen ($68,000) and three are in use in Singapore, the US and Japan, according to company spokeswoman,Kayako Kido.

28、3,900 feet below the surface, scientists in New Zealand found a “mysterious creature”. They discovered the newly-hatched ghost shark(魔鬼鲨) on the Chatham Rise, a part of the ocean floor located off the eastern coast of the South Island.
Ghost sharks are deep-water animals closely related to sharks and rays. These fish are also some-times called ratfish or rabbitfish.
They lay eggs on the seafloor where the embryos(胚胎) feed off the egg yolk(蛋黄) until they hatch. A scientist on the team who discovered the baby ghost shark said they were able to identify the shark as a baby because its stomach was still full of egg yolk.
“We don’t actually know much about ghost sharks,” said Brit Finucci, a fisheries scientist on the study. “What we do know mostly comes from adults of their species. So it’s very rare and very uncommon to find juveniles of a lot of these species, so that’s why I got quite excited.”
Because ghost sharks make their home in very deep water, they are difficult to study. While the exact species of ghost shark isn’t known yet, scientists hope this discovery will help inform them of the knowledge of this mysterious creature.
Scientists hope the “very rare” finding will fill in research gaps about the species. “We’re hoping this will give us some more indication about the biology and ecology,” said Finucci. Researchers are using this shark to account for biological differences between juvenile and adult members of the subclass. Finucci added, “We’re not sure what we’re going to find, which is also quite exciting.”
【1】How did the scientists identify the shark as a baby?
A.By its habitat.
B.By its appearance.
C.By the food it consumed.
