22、 Many of you have watched a Superman cartoon or movie. But did you know he first appeared in comics(连环漫画)? Do you want to learn more about popular comic books around the world? Take a look!
Do you find reading boring? Have a read of some comic books. You will learn to love their colorful pictures and simple language.
Comic books usually tell stories through cartoons. The US and Japan have some great comic books. But they are not the same.
Their names are different. People say “comic books” in the US but “manga” in Japan.
American comics are often about superheroes—characters like Superman and Spider Man. So action is a major part of American comics. But Japanese manga like to tell stories of ordinary people. Luffy in One Piece(《海贼王》)is such an example.
American comics make people excited with super powers, while Japanese manga comfort(安慰)people with moving stories. Natsume’s Book of Friends is about a teenage boy. He can see spirits(精灵). He is confused (困惑的)at first but later he makes friends with spirits.

"Now, listen," said the man. "I will let you know that the Queen(女王)of England gave me permission to take off my shirt here."
"The Queen of England?" said the waiter in great surprise.
"Sure," said the man. "When I was in England last month, a friend of mine took me to see the Queen. It was very hot. I started to take off my coat. The Queen looked over and said, "You may do that in the United States, but you may not do it here!' So I got the Queen's permission, right?"

24、
What would happen if you tried to blow a soap bubble in freezing weather? Would it freeze solid(固体) and fall to the ground? Would you have to hit it to break it? These questions happened to me on a cold winter day. It was too cold to play in the snow, but it was a perfect time to experiment with blowing frozen bubbles.
To blow frozen bubbles, I used dishwashing soap and a drop of glycerin(甘油) to make it even better. I chose a place out of the wind, and blew bubbles the same way I always do. I watched to see what would happen. Here’s what I learned.
If the temperature is low enough, the skin of the bubbles frosts over (结霜), becoming cloudy instead of clear. And what about those rainbow swirls(旋转) you see in soap bubbles? The rainbow colors stay even when the bubbles frost, but they don’t swirl anymore. The bubbles still stay in the air. They don’t fall to the ground any faster than they would on a warm summer day.
When these frozen bubbles break, they don’t turn into small water drops as summer bubbles do. They turn into flashing rainbow confetti(碎屑) and move slowly to the ground. Sometimes a frozen bubble will roll across the snow without breaking. If nothing disturbs the bubble, it may stay there for a long time. Sometimes I could catch a bubble and hold it until the heat of my hand made it pop.
I learned another thing about blowing frozen bubbles. It’s so interesting that I want to try it again next year.
【1】It is the perfect time to blow frozen bubbles on a ___________day.
A.cold winter B.warm spring C.hot summer D.sunny autumn
【2】When the frozen bubbles break, _________.

C.they fall to the ground like rain D.they become rainbow confetti
【3】The purpose of the passage is _______.

B.to show the experiment of blowing frozen bubbles
C.to discover games that are fun to play in the snow
D.to invent a new kind of soap that makes stronger bubbles
25、Read the passage and fill in the blanks with proper words(在短文的空格内填入适当的词,使其内容通顺,每空格限填一词,首字母已给):
A group of frogs were traveling through the woods when two of them fell into a deep pit(坑). All the other frogs came around the pit. When they saw how d【1】 the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were dying. The two frogs wouldn’t listen to their words and tried to jump out of the pit. The other frogs kept telling them to stop. F【2】, one of the frogs listened to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down and died. The other frog c【3】 to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the group of frogs shouted at him to give up and wait for the d【4】. He jumped even harder and in the end he made it out. When he got out, the other frog asked: “Did you not hear us ?” To their surprise, the frog explained to them that he couldn’t hear clearly. He thought they were encouraging him the w【5】 time.
Words have the power of life and death. An encouraging word spoken to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it t【6】 their difficulties. A destructive word to someone who is down can sometimes kill that person. So always be careful of what you say.
