四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Today there are about 7.5 billion people on the earth. By the year 2050 there may be 12.5 billion. There are many people to feed. We need more and more food.

One way to produce more food is growing stronger plants. For thousands of years, farmers have made plants better. Every season, they pick the best plants for the next season. It works very slowly. Since 1983,scientists have been able to change plants more quickly by changing their genetic( 遗传的) material. Foods from plants grown in this way are called genetically modified food, or GM food.

By changing the genetic material of a plant, it is possible to make new plants. Scientists make plants which are strong against plant diseases. They can also help in our diseases.A kind of rice will be grown, for example, which stops people becoming blind.

Rich countries produce GM food because they are easy to grow and bring in more money. Poor countries are interested in them because they help produce more food.

GM plants are not natural. No one knows how good or bad they are. Making GM food is only one way of feeding people in 2050.There are strong feelings against them because they are unnatural. They may feed people, then hurt them or their children later. But both rich and poor countries are interested in their uses, and they are not going to go away. In 2050,we may think differently about them.

1How have scientists been able to change plants more quickly?

    A.By making the best plants.

B.By asking the farmers to grow plants.

    C.By changing their genetic material.

    D.By changing planting environment.

2Why do rich countries produce GM food?

A.Because they are easy to grow and bring in more money.

B.Because they are easy to grow and very cheap.

C.Because they help produce more food.

D.Because they are the best plants.

3What’s the meaning of “GM” in the second paragraph?

    A.传统 B.非转基因 C.自然 D.转基因

4What can we know according to the passage?

    A.GM plants are natural.

B.GM plants are weak against plant diseases.

C.Everyone knows how good or bad GM plants are.

D.GM food may hurt people or their children later.

  • 27、   Batman, Jubilee, the X-Men—all are superheroes. What makes a superhero? Let’s look at seven things that superheroes share.

    1. Nearly all superheroes have super-human powers. For example, Superman can fly, and Wonder Woman can talk with animals.

    2. A secret identity(身份)helps protect the superhero’s family and friends. In a few cases friends and family know the superhero’s identity—that Spider-Man is really Peter Parker or that Bruce Banner is actually the Hulk.

    3. A colorful costume helps the public make out the superhero, and at the same time it hides his or her identity.

    4. All superheroes are honest and own a strong moral code(道德准则). They respect the law but will break it if doing so will lead to the greater good. Superheroes expect no reward and seldom kill people.

    5. There are always enemies who have similar powers for Superheroes to fight against.

    6. As a child, Bruce Wayne saw a man kill his parents. He began training hard and later became Batman. The backstory tells how the superhero actually became the superhero we know. Superheroes are seldom born that way.

    7. A weakness can make a superhero helpless. This is also what makes him or her interesting. To succeed they must overcome this weakness.

The superhero is perhaps not so different from us. It is the purpose of the story that speaks to us. They tell important truths about human nature. The superhero is a symbol of  our hopes and goals. These are what we see in ourselves. And the superhero’s enemies are our own fears, such as crime and war. The superhero often loses but never, ever gives up. This is a lesson we can all learn from. Like us, the superhero is not perfect, but that’s exactly what makes a true hero.

1Which picture best describes “costume” in Paragraph 4?

    A. B. C. D.

    2Superheroes have special costumes________.

A.to frighten the enemy B.to hide their identities

C.to show off D.to make out their members

3What do superheroes have in common?

A.Super powers over animals. B.An identity unknown to their family.

C.A strong moral code. D.Super powers from birth.

4Why does the writer point out the similarities between superheroes and us?

A.To encourage us to try to be perfect.

B.To advise us to act like superheroes.

C.To show that having weaknesses is of human nature.

D.To prove that superheroes have the same enemies as us.

5What lesson can we learn from the superheroes?

A.Never give up. B.Never set a life goal.

C.Always hope for the best. D.Always learn to tell stories.
