四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、Smartphones, poor sight

Look around and you’ll see people busy on their smartphones. Smartphones do make our lives easier . But have you ever thought about what they mean to your eyes?

According to a study, half of British people own smartphones and they spend an average (平均) of two hours a day using them. There has been a 35% increase in the number of people in the UK who suffer from shortsightedness(近视)since smartphones were introduced there in 1997.

Staring(盯)at smartphones for long time gives you dry eyes. When looking at something in the distance, your eyes automatically blink(自动眨眼)a certain number of times. However, when you look at things closer to your face, the blinking slows down. This reduces the amount of tears and causes discomfort in your eyes. Another bad habit is using smartphones in dark rooms before going to sleep. If you look at a bright screen while your pupils(瞳孔)become larger, too much light enters your eyes. This can do harm to the eyes and cause a disease called glaucoma(青光眼).

While you’re probably not going to stop using to your smart phone, there are a few things you can do to protect your eyes. Hold your phone at least 30 centimeters away from your eyes when using it. Take a break every hour and try the following: look at something at least five meters from you and then focus on the tip of your nose. Repeat this several times. It should reduce the discomfort in your eyes.

    【1】From Paragraph 2, we learn that _______.

    A. most of the British people began to use smartphones 19 years ago

    B. each of the British people spends two hours a day on smartphones

    C. all British people have suffered from shortsightedness since 1997

    D. the number of British people who own smartphones increases by 35%

【2】 According to Paragraph 3, using smartphones improperly may cause _______.

    A. too many blinks   B. more tears in the eyes

    C. larger pupils   D. dry eyes and glaucoma

【3】Which of the following is suggested by the writer ?

    A. Hold the phone at least half a meter away from the eyes.

    B. Don’t use the phone for over an hour without a break.

    C. Turn off your phone for a couple of hours every day.

    D. Look at something green far away for several minutes.

【4】The Chinese meaning of the underlined word “smartphone” is ___________.

    A. 小灵通 B. 智能手机 C. 平板电脑 D. 电话机

【5】This article is written to advise people_______.

    A. not to buy smart phones

    B. to stop using smartphones

    C. to make full use of smartphones

    D. to use smart phones properly

  • 25、Maybe it is true that we do not know what we have got until we lose it, but it is also true that we do not know what we have been missing until it arrives. Giving someone all your love never means that they will love you back. Do not expect love in return; but if it does not, be glad it grows in yours.

It takes an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone. Do not depend on one's appearance, it may not be true. Do not depend on wealth, even that disappears slowly. Depend on someone who makes you smile, because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright.

There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug(拥抱) them.

Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials(尝试) to make you strong, enough sadness to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy.

Always put yourself in others' shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person, too.

The happiest people do not necessarily give the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. Happiness waits for those who cry, those who have been hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tired, for only they can enjoy the importance of people who have touched their lives.

The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past. You cannot go on well in life until you let your past failures and heartaches go off.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you are the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

【1If you put yourself in another's position, ___________.

    A. you should depend on wealth

    B. you shouldn't do those things that will hurt you and other people

    C. you will do what you want to do however dangerous it is to people

    D. you should depend on other people.

【2】Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

    A. If you give someone your love, you are sure that she will give her love to you in return.

    B. We often don’t know what we have lost until it happens.

    C. If someone accepts your love and he doesn’t give you his love in return, you should be angry with him.

    D. If it takes you an hour to love someone, you will easily forget her.

【3In the last paragraph of the passage, the writer is actually telling us that a man in the world should be one who __________.

    A. can accept the suggestions made by others

    B. can live happily and forget the past

    C. does good to the people and wins their respect

    D. has made a lot of money for himself when he dies

  • 26、   An old man went to live with his son, his daughter-in-law, and a four-year-old grandson. The old man's hands trembled(颤抖),his eyesight was very poor, and he couldn't walk steadily(平稳地).The family ate together nightly at the dinner table.  But the elderly grandfather's shaky hands and failing sight made eating rather difficult. Rice often dropped on the floor.

The son and the daughter-in-law became angry with the old man,so they put a small table in the corner. There, the grandfather ate alone, while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner at the table. Since the grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was put in a wooden bowl.

The four-year-old son watched it all in silence. One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with a piece of wood on the floor. He asked the child sweetly, "What are you making?" The boy answered,"Oh,I am making a little bowl for you and mama to eat your food from when I grow up." The four-year-old son smiled and went back to work. The words struck the parents so that they were in silence. Then tears started to stream down their cheeks. Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done. That evening the man took his father's hand and gently led him back to the family table.

C.Because the old man's food was put in a wooden bowl.

D.Because a gentleman led him back to the family table.
