  • 26、   On the first day tutoring students from low-income families at an after-school program in New York City, Alyssa Kapasi noticed how many kids were lining up for free sandwiches and fruit in the cafeteria. One teacher explained that many of these students dont get enough to eat at home, so school lunch or an after-school meal might be the most food they would get all day.

Kapasi, who attends private school, was shocked. What’s more, she decided to help. “I want other kids to understand that if you see a problem, you don’t have to wait to be an adult to fix it,” says Kapasi. She and a group of friends are now putting their programming skills to work to create an app called Food for Thought, which will allow parents, students, and even kind-hearted strangers to donate(捐款) to a lunch account(账户) for a student in need at a nearby school.

About 20 million American kids receive free lunches. Also, they can buy foods with more quality at lower prices; that is to say, those students’ families just pay for part of their food. When they don’t have the money on any given day, the students might accept a free meal, such as a cheese sandwich.

One smart feature of the app is that it is donated by people from different areas. Some are teachers and doctors, and some are bosses in big companies. To receive help, a family will need only a recommendation(推荐) from a school headmaster, and no one else has to know who you are.

I want to make my platform an application that all users feel no shame in using, says Kapasi. She hopes to test the app in a school district(地区) this fall.

1Kapasi decided to build the app when she_____________ .

A.attended private school B.saw kids line up for free food

C.finished her school lunch D.learned some programming skills

2What is Kapasis opinion towards the problems?

A.Wait for the adult to solve it. B.Solve it when you grow up.

C.Try to solve it right now. D.Ask a school teacher for help.

3What help can some poor families get by using the app?

A.They can learn how to solve problems.

B.Their children can get free lunch.

C.They can get some money from the app.

D.Their children can learn some skills.

4Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A.The app protects and shows respect for kids who are helped.

B.The app has worked well in all school districts since this fall.

C.People that give money will know who they are helping.

D.People can get a free meal if they know how to use the app.

  • 27、On March 20, 2021 the Sanxingdui Ruins in Guanghan, Sichuan drew the world’s attention. Chinese experts said that they had found more than 500 cultural relics (文物)in six places at the site. It can date back over 3, 200 years. The relics include bronzeware(青铜器), gold and bronze masks, ivory, jade and textiles.

Experts first discovered the Sanxingdui Ruins in 1929 and believed that they are the remains of the ancient Shu Kingdom. This kingdom was a center of civilization along the Yangtze River. In 1986, experts discovered two places that were used for sacrificial ceremonies. At that time, over 1, 000 relics were found, including bronzeware, face masks and bronze trees.

The discovery of Sanxingdui raised an important question about the beginning of Chinese civilizatlon. The ancient Shu civilization that built Sanxingdui is believed to be one of the earliest examples of Chinese civilization. The site, along with the Liangzhu and Shijiahe sites along the Yangtze River, shows that it might not only be along the Yellow River Basin in the north of China.

The newly-discovered relics are similar to those found in 1986, as they also include bronze trees and bronze masks. They further support the idea that they were used for sacrificial purposes.

New kinds of cultural relics have also been dug up. For example, experts found a kind of special relic, zun, which was used for holding water or wine. They also found cong—a relic commonly found at the 5, 000-year-old Liangzhu Ruin in Zhejiang Province.

“These relics show that the Sanxingdui site had a close connection with Central China, but it also marks an original ancient civilization in Sichuan with strong creativity,” said Chen Xiandan, a member of the project. Now, more and more people are interested in studying the Sanxingdui Ruins and all of us hope that people can find out more new things and explain the secrets about it. So people can have a better understanding about the history of China.

Why do we study history? One r3 is that we enjoy it. A good story is even better if it is true, and history is full of good s4 though they can be terrible too. A more serious reason is to understand o5 and the world we live in. To understand events happening now, we need to know their causes. We cannot understand the p6 if we know nothing about the past. History helps us understand why things are the way they are.

Of course, history books cannot tell us everything about the past, not even everything that i7 recorded. A history of the world has to pick out the people and events t8 changed the world.
