四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、At the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, tai chi performers impressed the whole world. A total of 2008 performers stood in a large circle and moved in slow, calm and powerful motions (动作) in their white silk uniforms.

Tai chi has always been a symbol of Chinese culture and is becoming popular around the world. According to Xinhua, this ancient martial art is practised by over 100 million people in more than 150 countries. It was recently added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List (非物质文化遗产名录).

One thing that makes tai chi popular is its health benefits. As you move, you breathe deeply and naturally, focusing your attention—just as in some kinds of meditation (冥想)—on your body. This helps you relax and find inner peace.

According to Harvard Health, tai chi is suitable for almost anyone, from healthy people to those recovering from surgery (手术). This is because its movements are never forced—the muscles arc relaxed rather than tensed, and the joints (关节) are never fully bent (弯曲). It is all gain and no pain.

What makes tai chi even more interesting might be the philosophical (哲学) ideas behind it. The term “tai chi” comes from Taoism, which states that inaction, as opposed to action, is the solution to problems. That’s why tai chi movements are slow and soft. It is not used to fight an enemy—it is used to protect yourself. That doesn’t mean it is weak though. The principle of tai chi is to use softness to beat hardness.

Tai chi also focuses on harmony between yin and yang. For example, if you work too hard and feel tired, you have too much “yang”. So it is time for you to calm down and get more “yin”. This idea of keeping a healthy balance can be applied to everything in life. It makes tai chi far more than just another martial art.

Chinese athletes did a great job at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, winning 88 medals in total. But did you know that there are many cool technologies behind their success?

Su Bingtian, the first Chinese sprinter, reached an Olympic 100m final. With the help of scientific training, he made his breakthrough. “It takes Su 47 steps to run 100 meters. Each step counts,” Liang Dong, a member of Su’s training team, told Shenzhen Evening News. “Randy Huntington, Su’s American coach and a biomechanics (生物力学) expert in track and field, has collected a lot of data (数据) on outstanding sprinters and built a database. He put in all of Su’s data and got a near-optimal (接近最优的) model. When Su is training, the team uses high-speed cameras to record his training and compares it with the model to find out his weaknesses.”

Technology has also brought a new improvement to table tennis. On July 27, the semifinal match between China’s Sun Yingsha and Japan’s Mimaito was in full swing (正在全力进行) at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. You wouldn’t have guessed that besides players, judges and audiences, a powerful AI platform was watching the match.

Every serve, swing and movement of Mimaito was caught by this AI cloud platform set in Tokyo. At an average speed of 100 Mbps, the data was sent to the technical team of the Zhejiang University Table Tennis Intelligent Big Data Analysis Platform, 2, 442 kilometers away from the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, according to The Paper.

The platform has stored the data of more than 8, 000 matches so far. The research team has been working on match simulation (模拟) since 2018. “Using big data and AI, we can correctly simulate and predict how the winning rate will change when players change certain tactics (策略),” Professor Wu Yingcai, the main developer of the platform, told CCTV-2.

The Tokyo Olympic Games have seen not only scientific support in training, but many cutting-edge technologies in athletes’ devices (设备). For example, the Kenya women’s volleyball team’s GPS devices fed data on each player’s strength, heart rate and so on to coaches, who used the information to prevent injury (受伤) and personalize training plans for each individual, South China Morning Post reported.

【1】What helped Su Bingtian a lot to make his breakthrough?

    A.His scientific training.

    B.Support from his family.

    C.His coach’s encouragement.

    D.Support from other sprinters.

【2】What’s the advantage of match simulation according to Professor Wu Yingcai?

A.Players can study other players’ tactics.

B.Players can know their own weaknesses.

C.It helps players improve their winning rate.

D.It helps judges make the correct judgement.

【3】The GPS devices can help coaches ________.

    A.quickly find out players’ information

B.give proper treatment for sports injuries

C.make better decisions for future training

D.follow players’ movement during the game

【4】What does the passage mainly talk about?

A.The success of the Tokyo Olympics.

B.The advantages of using AI at the Tokyo Olympics.

C.The ways athletes prepared for the Tokyo Olympics.

D.Technologies that helped athletes at the Tokyo Olympics.

  • 27、The power of keeping a diary From Anne Frank to Samuel Pepys, diaries have given us a window into some of the most important moments in our history. Now, as the world is disturbed by coronavirus, experts are asking more of us to put pen to paper to chronicle(按时间顺序记录)these life-changing times.

Michael Ward, a Senior Lecturer in Social Science for Swansea University, started CoronaDiaries. 164 participants, aged from 11 to 84, submitted entries(作品)of their experiences of the pandemic. Michael says: “Some of the documents have made me cry, especially those from already seriously ill people, but others have made me laugh and have been a jog to read.”

Michael adds that these diaries also address the important changes that COVID-19 continues to create. “They could help people better prepare for future problems. When the pandemic first hit, may historians, and even scientists turned to the diaries kept by people living through the 1918 influenza pandemic. These diaries help them understand how previous generations survived such changes and what challenges might still be to come. ”

As well as capturing the past, the real beauty of a diary is that it recounts(叙述)honestly and openly how we feel at a given moment. It can give the most intimate, lived experience of how the pandemic has affected our lives, our minds and our moods.

All the more reason then to grab a pen, scribble the date and get writing. Dear diary…

Make the most of your diary

Whether you have never kept a diary before or jot your thoughts down every night, here’s some top tips to get the very best out of a diary—writing habit:

    Start small

You don’t have to spend hours on a diary. Start with a sentence a day and go from there. Or set a timer and write for just 30 minutes every Sunday summing up the week.

    Use your senses

When you’re describing an event or memory, think about what you could see, hear, taste, smell and feel. Including lots of detail will really help you relive the moment

    Think off the page

If a conventional written diary doesn’t work for you, pen and paper isn’t the only option. You could record or film yourself talking about your day. Or if you’re online, you could write a diary on a free online blog with the potential to share this with family and friends.

【1】What can we know about CoronaDiaries?

B.It was started by some seriously ill people who were fighting against COVID﹣19.

C.It mainly attracts young people to submit their stories from the pandemic.

D.The documents from CoronaDiaries include both sad and pleasant stories.

【2】Which of the flowing statements is true about how to write a diary?

A.You need to prepare a pen and paper to start a diary.

B.You should set a topic for what you want to write every day.

C.You should spend a certain period of time every day writing in your diary.

D.It is better for you to describe in more detail the things you have experienced.

【3】The aim of the passage is to .

A.encourage us to keep a diary

    B.discuss the importance of diaries

C.teach us different ways to write a diary
