Kids who are between the ages of 10-13 can do certain types of farm jobs, with their parents’ permission.

Does all that mean that if you’re younger than 14, you can’t make some real money of your own? Of course not! Here are some teenagers’ ideas.

In the business world, people often have very busy timetables. They may have something planned for every hour of the working day. 【1】

If a seller has agreed to meet a buyer at a given time, he or she will want the seller to be there at that time. 【2】 The buyer may not want to do business because of the lateness.

If a person is late, it says they and their company aren't reliable(可靠的). If a meeting has to be put off, then the person who is being met should be told quickly. It is also expected that friend will turn up on time for meetings with each other. It is thought rude to be late. If two friends plan to meet in cafe, and one of them is very late, the other may be upset. 【3】 It says to them that their friend doesn't really care about them.

At other times rules are more relaxed. In Britain, for example, if someone holds a party on a Saturday evening, many people will be asked to come. The host may say that the party will last "from 8 till late". That is, it may go on for a long time. 【4】 They don't need to come on time at 8 o'clock.

  • 26、

We might usually see this scene in science fiction or movies: people are traveling between cities in tubes. The tube trains are even faster than planes, and people arrive at their destinations in minutes. Well, one big step was taken to make this happen.

On May 11, 2018, the first open air test of the propulsion system (推进系统) for a tube train, which is called the Hyperloop, took place in the Nevada desert, US. The system went from 0 to 169 kilometers per hour in slightly over a second.

But this isn’t the final goal. Elon Musk, founder of the US space company Space X, first had the idea for the Hyperloop in 2013. He wants passengers to travel in low-pressure tubes, propelled (推进) by magnets (磁铁), at a speed of around 1,200 kilometers per hour. The average speed of Boeing airplanes is 800 to 1,100 kilometers per hour.

Musk calls the Hyperloop the fifth main kind of transportation for humans, after ships, cars, trains and planes. According to him, the Hyperloop is safe, produces fewer greenhouse gases and can work in any weather.

But right now, Hyperloop One is still far away from its final product. One major problem about making the inter-city Hyperloop a reality is that it could cost too much. “They’re up against airlines, and airlines don’t need to build hundreds of miles of tubes,” said Jose Gomez-Ibanez, a professor of urban planning at Harvard University, US. So we will have to wait and see.

【1】The underlined word “destinations” means “______”.

    A.a place to arrive

    B.a place to set out

    C.a place to stop

    D.a place to continue

【2】Elon Musk first had the idea for the Hyperloop ______.

    A.in 2015

    B.in 2014

    C.in 2013

    D.in 2012

【3】______ is the fourth main kind of transportation.

    A.The ship

    B.The car

    C.The plane

    D.The Hyperloop

【4】Which of the following is NOT true about the Hyperloop?

    A.It is safe.

B.It can produce fewer greenhouse gases.

C.It can work in any weather.

D.Its highest speed is 1,000 kilometers per hour.

【5】One of the shortcomings (缺点) of the inter-city Hyperloop is that ______.

    A.its speed is too slow

    B.it costs too much money

C.it isn’t as safe as the plane

D.it can’t carry too many passengers

  • 27、   A wild baby bison(野牛) at Yellowstone National Park had to be killed because of tourists.

The tourists thought that the baby bison looked cold. They put it in their car and drove to a park ranger(管理员) station.

A ranger described the action of the tourists as a "dangerous move" because adult bison can look after their babies very well and they will attack(攻击) to protect their young.

Park rangers took the animal from the car and set it free. But, sadly, the baby was refused by its family because it had the smell from humans.

Yellowstone National Park explained on Facebook that the smell from people can cause parent animals to refuse to accept their young. The park tried again and again to make the baby bison lives with its parents. After several times they had to give up.
