24、 Do you have any interests in your childhood? In my seventh grade, I developed an interest in solving a Rubik's Cube. I started by asking my brother to teach me and he asked me to solve a blue cross on a cube by myself.
I spent around 20 minutes mixing the cube and finally got that little blue cross on the top. Excitedly, I jumped up from the chair and raced into my brother's bedroom. After handing the cube to him, to my surprise, he mixed the perfect blue cross up, making my work completely disappear.
"Do it again," he handed it back to me.
"No, I won't." I was angry stepping out of his room.
A. few weeks later, my brother wasn't at home. "I'm going to learn how to do this without him!" I promised myself. I spent the rest of my night watching a guy on You Tube teach me to solve the first few steps. I mastered those steps.
The next day, I spent the whole school day secretly practicing what I learned the night before. When I made my way to my music class, I tried to find some spare time taking out the cube again and solving what I knew. Noah, my classmate, and also one of my best friends later, laughed at me.
"Do you know how?" I sneered (嘲笑).
"Actually yeah, let me see it. My fastest solving time is 15 seconds," he noted as he began solving the cube. It took him about 25 seconds to finish it.
"Okay, that was cool." I started solving the cube again. I didn't know at that time this boy would be my inspiration for cube solving. He taught me each step, each day, and when I forgot, he'd remind me how to do it. He was the best friend I'd ever had.
Sadly, he's no longer with us now, but the memories of solving cubes together will be there forever. It was this boy who helped me with cube solving. It takes me around a minute to solve a Rubik's Cube. I am proud that I can do something not many people can. Thank you, Noah.

25、Imagine having an ear made out of an apple. It seems like a crazy idea. But it could happen in the near future.
Canadian biophysicist Andrew Pelling used an apple to grow a human ear. He thinks fruit and vegetables can be used to cheaply repair human body parts in the future.
Scientists have been trying to grow organs(器官)in labs to replace our old ones. But it’s a hard job. In the past, scientists have used man-made materials, animal parts and even dead people as scaffolds(支架). But that has proved to be difficult and expensive. Pelling and his team, however, found the apple to be a cheap and easy-to-use scaffold. They first cut an apple into the shape of an ear. Then they used a special way to take out the apple’s cells(细胞)and make it a scaffold. The team then added human cells to the apple, and watched it grow, implant(移植)these scaffolds into the body, and the body will send in cells and a blood supply and actually keep these things alive, Pelling said during a Ted Talk speech.
The team put the apple scaffold inside a living mouse and the mouse’s cells slowly take over the pieces of the apple.
Now Pelling is thinking of other fruit, plants or vegetables to use.

Do you love to travel and enjoy writing about your experiences? In fact, whenever we see something new, we wish to write it down in one form or another. We will be happier if we share our experiences with others. Then how can we write better travel stories? The following may be useful.
Memory and notes
Don’t believe your memory. You may have a good memory, but you cannot remember everything. You are seeing and hearing so much information while you’re on a trip. When you come back to write about your travel stories, you may forget something. So you should make notes, take photographs, and if possible, take videos. In this way, you can describe your travel and write it down without missing anything.
Photographs and your stories
Photographs are very helpful for you to remember what you have seen. As you see the photographs, you can describe your experiences easily by remembering the feeling when you took them.
When you are writing about your travel stories, make sure they are not too short as your readers may not get the full impressions of them and make sure they are not so long that the reader may get bored.

27、 When you see your favorite food on a red plate, you probably feel hungry. But you feel hunger when it is on a white plate. Can you guess why this happens? According to a recent research, colors have great influences on our eating.
Firstly, colors can really influence our feelings about food. For example, when you add some red to water, it tastes sweeter than normal water, as if you’ve added some sugar into it. The red color makes you feel that the water is very nice to drink.
However, the food that you think the most delicious will probably taste worse to you if you change its color to blue. This is because blue is not a very natural color for food and it always makes people feel sad.
Besides, colors can also influence how much we eat. In one research, people were asked to serve themselves some pasta (意式面食) with white gravy. The people with red plates ate a smaller part. For example, there is a big cake in the red plate, maybe you feel full after eating only a piece of it. However, the people with white plates ate much more.

28、 At times we all get angry when we are driving. It might be because we are stuck in a traffic jam or stuck behind a very s【1】 driver. It might be because we think another driver has done something very stupid and dangerous. Whatever the reason, it seems that getting angry in a car is something which happens more and more often and there is now a special term f【2】 it: 'road rage'(路怒症). Some experts even think that road rage is a kind of mental illness! How can we recognize this 'illness' of road rage? There are two kinds of road rage: aggressive (攻击性的) driving and aggressive reactions to the way other people are driving. Aggressive driving can take different f【3】 : Driving much faster than the speed limit.
Increasing your speed very quickly.
Driving very close behind the car in front and sounding the horn (喇叭) or flashing the headlights.
Changing lanes very suddenly and b【4】 another car.
Moving into a parking space where another car is trying to park.
There are also different reactions to the way other people are driving. These include:
Making rude signs at people.
Shouting at people and threatening them.
Deliberately (蓄意地) driving into another person's car.
Hitting somebody.
Using a weapon such as a baseball bat, or even a gun or a knife.
Road rage is c【5】 not a joke. There have been incidents (事件) of road rage which have led to serious injuries and even murder. Experts think that one reason for road rage is that films show a lot of examples of fast and aggressive driving such as car chases where this kind of driving seems to be positive. Experts also think that the punishments for dangerous driving are not serious e【6】. Experience shows that driving problems can be controlled, but it takes a long time. In the UK in the last 30 years, the police have been quite successful in r【7】 the number of people who drink and drive. They are now working to stop people using mobile phones when they are driving. Let's hope they can have the same success with road rage.
