With vehicles flooding in, roads around the world get more and more crowded. Some of the brightest engineers and industries are racing to make science-fiction flying taxis a reality. In recent years, eVTOL, a new type of flying taxi takes technology a further step. As the name suggests, these electric flying taxis take off and land vertically(垂直地), like helicopters, which make their airports take up as little space as possible in cities.
The eVTOL paves the way for environment-friendly transport. It is powered by batteries and produces zero carbon emissions(碳排放). The mass use of eVTOL will lower air pollution in cities. If recharged from a renewable source of electricity, it is a lot cheaper to run. Some may be concerned about its speed. In fact, it can reach speeds of 150 to 200 miles an hour flying at a height of 1, 000 and 2, 000 feet, which is something cars can never achieve. You can board a flying taxi and move ahead to your destination in a matter of minutes! And there is another difference from a traditional taxi: silence. As the electric flying taxi flies overhead, it is surprisingly quiet.
On November 10, 2022, the first vertiport for eVTOL, managed by Groupe ADP, opened in Paris. It plans to serve for the 2024 Paris Olympics. By then the company plans for at least two routes to be operating in the city, with a total of ten air taxis, each flying two or three trips an hour. These will link the Olympic Village with traditional airports and a medical centre. “By the end of 2030, it is not only Paris’s terrible traffic that could be avoided from above, but the jammed roads of several other cities, too, ”says Dirk Hoke, director of the Sustainable Development and Real Estate Director RATP Group.

28、 By the rivers and under trees of rural South Auckland, New Zealand’s newest and most special school is in class. The weather is fine, so the students would go fishing, and then they would cook lunch on a wild fire. What about homework and lectures? No. “We are called a school but we look nothing like any school out there,” says Joey Moncarz, co-founder and head teacher at Deep Green Bush School.
Moncarz used to be a teacher in the traditional schools. After five unhappy years there in New Zealand, he stopped to found Deep Green Bush School, which was kind of inspired by the Sudbury Valley School in the US. Now It has a roll of eight students, and no classroom walls or tests. Most importantly, he considered that traditional schools were not preparing children for the global problems of the future – such as climate change, so Moncarz founded Deep Green Bush School, a completely different kind of education, based on the skills of hunting, gathering and survival.
The more traditional school skills, such as reading, writing and maths, are learned at students’ own pace, after they begin showing an interest in them. Not, says Moncarz, when the teacher orders it is time to learn.
“We don’t have what you’d traditionally consider problem kids,” says Moncarz. “Our parents saw their kids were unhappy and stressed in traditional education and they started questioning: is it normal or right for kids to come home stressed and unhappy?”
Moncarz insists that the school isn’t an “experiment” in education, and is based on two million years of evidence of how parents have raised their kids.
【1】Where do students in Deep Green Bush School study?
A.In the classroom. B.At home. C.In the wild. D.On the Internet.
【2】What’s Moncarz’s main purpose of founding Deep Green Bush School?

【3】When do students of Deep Green Bush School learn traditional school skills?
A.After teachers order study time.
B.After students have interest in them.
C.As soon as students come into the school.
D.As soon as students finish learning the basic skills.
【4】What can we infer from the passage?
A.All the students in schools are stressed.
B.Moncarz had fun teaching in traditional schools.
C.Deep Green Bush School is the first special school.
D.Some parents may be unsatisfied with traditional schools.
29、A home science experiment recently took the world by storm. Two teens from Toronto, in Canada, sent a Lego man rising above the Earth and captured their tiny astronaut’s trip on film.
Mathew Ho and Asad Muhammad, both 17, used a weather balloon to launch their plastic lego model 16 miles above the Earth. This is inside a part of Earth’s atmosphere.
The two teens were inspired by a similar project performed by students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT). The MIT students had launched a weather balloon with a camera into near space and taken many unusual images of the Earth. Mathew and Asad then spend four months figuring out how to launch their own spacecraft into the space.
Travelling to space is expensive for NASA, but Mathew and Asad worked hard to keep their costs down. They bought much of their equipment used and even sewed the Lego man’s parachute by hand. In total, the project cost only$400.
“We had a lot of anxiety on launch day because there were high winds when we were going up,”Mathew told reporters. They had to pump extra helium(氦)into the balloon so that it would rise quickly and avoid being blown too far off course by the strong winds.
The toy astronaut’s journey lasted 97 minutes before the balloon broke and he fell back to Earth. Mathew and Asad then spent two weekends looking for their spacecraft. It had landed 76miles away from the launch site.
The student scientists are currently finishing up their final year of high school and applying for colleges. They are also looking into more do-it-yourself space projects.
“I guess the sky is not really the limit anymore,” Mathew told reporters. “We never knew we’d get this far. It’s been a lesson for us that hard work pays off.”

30、Over the past decade, the number of American children and teenagers admitted to children’s hospitals for depression has more than doubled. There may be plenty of reasons for it. “A number of things are pretty_________to young people today. They were born around when the Columbine shooting happened, they were kids for 9/11, they were kids during one of the worst financial crises in modern history,” says Nicole Green, the executive director of Counselling and Psychological Services at the University of California.
A big new study suggests a different _________ for teenage depression — the many hours young people spend staring at their phone screens. That might be having serious_________, according to the study’s author, Jean Twenge, a psychology professor at San Diego State University and author of “iGen: Why Today’s Super-Connected Kids Are Growing Up Less Rebellious, More Tolerant, Less Happy”.
By researching national surveys, with data collected from over 500,000 American teenagers, Ms Twenge found that adolescents who spent more time on new media were more likely to _________ remarks such as: “The future often seems_________,” or “I feel that I can’t do anything right.” Those who used screens less, spending time playing sport, doing homework, or socializing with friends_________, were less likely to report mental troubles.
As Ms Twenge herself admits, the study does not prove_________. It is possible that another force is behind the increased diagnosis of depression among adolescents, and that sad teenagers are more likely than their happy peers to seek refuge in their _________. But a growing body of scientific evidence supports the idea that social media can lead to problems. One study published in 2016 asked a randomly selected group of adults to _________ social media websites for a week; a control group continued browsing the sites as usual. The former reported feeling less __________ at the end of the week than the latter. Another experiment published in 2013 found that the more participants used social media websites, the more saddened they felt about their lives. However, it showed that feeling blue did not lead people to __________ their social media use.
Not all studies are so worrying. Past research suggests that social-networking sites can promote __________if used to engage directly with other users, rather than just to browse photos of someone else’s holiday or wedding. This distinction is a reminder that social media is what users bring to it — their__________ shape their experiences, both on and offline. “I try to remind myself that people only post what they__________ you to see, so it can seem like their life is better than yours,” reflects Sarah, a junior at high school in Los Angeles. Nicole, another junior, agrees. But when asked if she has ever considered__________ her social media accounts, she looks confused. “No. I would feel lost.”

31、Directions: Complete the following passage by using the words in the box. Each word can only be used once. Note that there is one word more than you need.
Among the note-taking forms in today’s US schools, the Cornell method is widely recommended. Providing a form for concentrating and organizing notes, the Cornell method sets up a system to direct students to 【1】 the paper into two columns. The note-taking column, which is usually on the right, is twice the size of the key word column on the left. The student should leave five to seven lines blank, at the bottom of the page.
Notes from a lecture or teaching occupy the note-taking column which 【2】 contain the main ideas of the textbook or lecture. Most 【3】 ideas and long sentences are avoided while 【4】 or abbreviations (缩写) are preferred instead. To assist with future reviews, 【5】 thoughts or questions should be noted down as soon as possible so that the students may 【6】 to these points for reflection or further research. The key-word column is a(n) 【7】 place to note down these ideas. These ideas may later turn into potential research results as students are always encouraged to reflect on the notes 【8】 or go deep into the questions further.
Within 24 hours after the note-taking, the student must revise and then produce a short summary in the bottom space. Such move helps him to 【9】 the topic better. When preparing for a test, the student has 【10】 to a brief but detailed record of the previous classes.
