Did the “double reduction” policy (“双减”政策) change the students’ life? Is it good or bad for their study? Two students will share their ideas with us.
Li Linhua, 13, Beijing
It really helps me. Our homework is less than before. I can finish it at school with no need to take it home. I’m also happy to find there are fewer exams. 1. 我有更多的时间去阅读和运动。
Less homework make us have more after-school activities such as dancing, volleyball and drama (戏剧). 2. I can join many clubs, learning all kinds of useful things in life. Teachers are also giving us more chances to learn from real life. For example, we went to research earthworms (蚯蚓) in a field (田野) during a biology class. I believe this is a much better way to learn than just hitting the books. 3. The most exciting thing is that we can be close to the nature.
Wang Hai, 14, Changsha
With the “double reduction”, I have more free time to enjoy what I like to do! But since I can only take after-school classes on weekdays now, 4. Monday has become a really long and tiring day for me. On Monday, I need to take an online class at home after I come back from school. But at least I can have happy weekends.
There is one problem: We can no longer see the rankings (排名) after each exam. For sure, I do feel less stress without knowing them. But at the same time, 5. 我开始担心在学校的成绩。

24、What is your favorite color? Do you like yellow, orange, or red? If you do, you must be an active person who enjoys life. Do you like blue? Then you are probably quiet, shy, and would rather follow than lead.
Colors do influence our moods (情绪). A yellow room makes most people feel more cheerful and more relaxed than a dark green one; and a red dress brings warmth and cheer to the saddest winter day. On the other hand, black is depressing(令人压抑的). There was a black bridge over the Thames River, near London. The number of people who killed themselves on that bridge used to be larger than on any other bridge in the area— until it was repainted green.
Light and bright colors make people not only happier but also more active. In the factory, the workers will work better, harder, and have fewer accidents when their machines are painted orange rather than black.

25、 Have you ever wondered why everyone's nose is a different shape? Researchers have come up with a possible explanation for this. A study from Pennsylvania State University in the USA says the Earth’s climate (the typical weather conditions in an area) could have something to do with the shape of our nose.
The study found that basically(基本上,主要地)people who have wider noses usually live in warmer, wetter areas. Instead, people with narrower noses are more commonly found in colder and drier climates. The nose plays an important part in making sure the air we breathe reaches our lungs(肺)in a warm and wet condition. The width of the nostrils(鼻孔)and length of the nose help to make sure this happens. Researchers said the nose is like a little temperature controller.
The researchers used 3D images to measure(测量)the noses of more than 2,600 people from Africa, Asia and Europe. They measured the width of the nostrils, the distance between nostrils and nose height. The researchers said their findings could help people who move to different climates to get used to the heat or cold, and the wet. Dr Arslan Zaidi said increased travel and climate change make it difficult to predict if our nose will change shape in the future. He said, “Our lifestyles aren’t what they used to be. We move around the world way too much. That makes it very hard to predict the future evolution(演变)of the nose with the changing climate.”
【1】According to the passage, what may change the shape of our noses?
A.The location. B.The environment. C.The climate.
【2】Why is the nose a little like a temperature controller?
A.Because the width of the nostrils and length of the nose make us look good.
B.Because it can make the air we breathe warm and wet when it reaches lungs.
C.Because it helps to make sure human can get used to the worse environment.
【3】The underlined word “narrower” means _________ in Chinese?
A.更宽的 B.更强的 C.更窄的
