四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、There can be magic in the touch of a hand that loves you. It brings comfort and a silent promise that says, “I am here and you are not alone.”

I remembered every detail about my children. As babies, they reached for me whenever they were hungry or tired or just needed to be held. Sometimes, if they woke in the night, just the touch of my hand would ease (使……放松) them back to sleep. They stuck to (紧跟) me when they took their first steps and we held hands when crossing streets and walking from the car to their classroom on their first day of school.

As they grew older and more independent (独立的), I noticed that they didn’t hold my hand much any more. I told myself it was part of growing up, and I should just be glad they could do things on their own now. But when you’ve been needed so much for such a long time, it’s hard to step back and feel unnecessary.

Then one day, I was visiting my oldest son in New York, where he was working as an actor on a TV show. As we were about to cross a busy street that was filled with traffic, he grabbed my hand and shouted, “Hang on to me, Mom,” then led me safely across.

At that moment, I realized two things. First, my boy had become a man. Second, it was clear that our roles had changed. We still needed each other, but in different ways from before.

That scene has replayed in different ways with each of my three children. They have all taught me to lean on (依赖) them just as they once leaned on me, and that we can always lean on each other. We live miles apart, but stay in touch every day. There is magic and comfort and healing in the touch of a hand that loves you, even if it “touches” you from afar.

  • 25、Recently, China Youth Daily has done a survey on memes (梗). They find that 67.34% of the interviewees will share new memes with their friends while the rest of the interviewees say “no”. Some people think that memes can create a relaxing atmosphere, but others think that internet language should not be widely used in real life. Do you think memes can help social communication?

    Chen Shuqi

Memes are created to communicate with others not only online but also in daily communication offline. Most memes have more than one meaning, which helps people express their, feelings better. Nowadays, memes have become fashionable in daily lives and have made the Chinese language more diverse (多样化).

    Xia Xiaoyu

Though memes are popular in daily communication, they have some disadvantages. For example, memes are changing so fast that some people will fall behind. Using memes relies on the important premise (前提) that both speakers understand each other. If one of them doesn’t understand, it will be embarrassing. So I suggest that people should use easier words instead of following the crowd blindly.

    Zeng Xinyue

Some memes are from movies, comics and other popular entertainment. People can use this kind of memes to recognize friends who have the same interests as they do. What’s more, these funny memes can attract more people to share what they like. If you get tired of a boring conversation, you can add proper memes that not only make it lively but also show your sense of humor.

    Liu Jiaming

Using certain memes may sometimes resonate with (与……产生共鸣) someone, but they can also cause misunderstanding. Recently, the meme “AaBaAaBa” has been popular. But do you know the meme was first used to laugh at the deaf and dumb? What if you were made fun of? Using too many memes can cause communication problems.

【1】Who may probably share the same opinion with Xia Xiaoyu?

    A.The writer

    B.Chen Shuqi

    C.Zeng Xinyue

    D.Liu Jiaming

【2】What does Zeng Xinyue think of memes?

A.Memes help to find out friends sharing the same interests.

B.Memes are changing so fast that some people will fall behind.

C.Memes may cause misunderstanding if we use them too much.

D.Memes have made either online or offline dialogues boring.

【3】Why do some people disagree with using memes?

A.Because it makes conversations easier to understand.

B.Because it helps people express their feelings better.

C.Because it helps make the Chinese language diverse.

D.Because it embarrasses people if they don’t understand.

【4】Where can we most probably read the passage?

    A.In a storybook.

    B.In a newspaper.

    C.On a shopping website.

    D.In a sports magazine.

  • 26、I love training with my husband Chris. We do our own exercises separately, and then we spend 30—40 minutes doing something we both like together. And we really enjoy it. I also train with my family — my brother, his wife and our cousins will come to our house every now and then to train together. It’s like family fun time! The competition also makes us work out a little harder.

Laziness, as you know, is catching, and so is enthusiasm (热情). If you can get your friend on board, you will be able to encourage each other on those days when the other doesn’t feel like moving. If you set yourself a goal and add some competition, I promise you that the training will be much more fun. Time will fly by and you will want to do it again.

This is why I wanted to learn Chris’s favorite sport — surfing. Not only would we have more fun things to do together, but also it was challenging for me. In turn, I have introduced Chris to two of my favorite sports: horse riding and motorbiking. Now he also loves them, which means we have even more chances to have fun together. Encouraged by our example, my brother and his wife now train together too.

What if you live alone? Well, I’m sure you have a friend who would love to train with you. Or, if you have young children, why not train in the backyard with another parent while the children play? You just need some music. The important thing is to have a plan and to make the time to do it. It will be much more fun than doing it on your own.

【1】How does the writer train with her husband?

A.They train with their family every day.

B.They start with their own exercises.

C.They exercise for half an hour each time.

D.They try to train with their friends.

【2】What happens when a family trains together?

    A.Everyone is highly lazy.

    B.Everyone trains a little harder.

    C.Everyone finds it much easier.

D.Everyone feels times goes by slowly.

【3】What does the underlined phrase “on board” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?

    A.To join you.

    B.To wake you up.

    C.To like you.

    D.To surf with you.

【4】The writer learns surfing because ________.

    A.it is her favorite sport

B.she was encouraged by her brother

    C.Chris introduced it to her

D.she wants to have fun together with Chris

【5】What does the writer try to do in the last paragraph?

    A.To give reasons.

    B.To develop a plan.

    C.To make suggestions.

    D.To make a promise.

  • 27、The Vieira family moved to the United States in 1981. At that time, they decided to stop speaking Spanish at home and only communicate in English. This was because they were now living in an English-speaking country.

Now the Vieira children are adults, and they sometimes travel to Spain to visit their family and friends. But they cannot communicate with them. Unfortunately this is common. When people move to new countries, they often leave their own customs and mother language behind. This is a mistake because there are many benefits to knowing more than one language.

One advantage of speaking more than one language is that you can communicate directly with more people around the world. You do not have to depend on others to talk for you, so you’re more independent. People who know only one language must use others to help them communicate.

Furthermore, speaking a second language also allows people to experience other cultures and customs more effectively. Local expressions, vocabulary, and even jokes can have a powerful effect on a person’s understanding of another culture. So, knowing more than one language increases your knowledge of other cultures.

Finally, having more___________improves relationships between countries. If people from different countries can communicate well, the world can become closer. Countries will then have more respect for each other and better understand each other’s problems.

The benefits of knowing more than one language are clear. In fact, there are no disadvantages. It is very sad that many people don’t try to learn another language. It is even worse when people let themselves forget their mother language and become silenced.

1What is the passage mainly about?

    A. The benefits of learning other languages.

    B. The reasons why people come to America.

    C. The importance of learning English.

    D. How to learn another language.

2The passage begins with the experience of the Vieira family in order to_______.

    A. discuss the need for teaching a new language

    B. introduce the passage’s main characters to the readers

    C. describe the advantages of moving to another country

    D. show the problems of speaking only one language

3The underlined phrase “multi-language speakers” (Paragraph 5) means “people who know ______.”

    A. their mother language   B. a new language

    C. more than one language   D. body language

4According to the passage, if you can speak more than one language, you can____.

    A. find a better job

    B. make more friends

    C. better understand history

    D. communicate more independently

5Based on the last paragraph, which of the following is the worst?

    A. Not knowing another language.

    B. Forgetting one’s mother language.

    C. Refusing to learn another language.

    D. Failing to communicate with others.
