六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   Different cultures have different ways to meet and greet people. For example, in many Asian countries, it is polite to shake hands as a greeting. In Western countries, between close friends, people greet each other with a kiss on the cheek. When traveling in another country, just do as the Romans do.

After greeting another person you need to find something good to talk about. The best thing is to look around and talk about your situation. Are you at a party? Talk about the party. Are you in school? Talk about the school. It is not a good idea to ask very personal(私人的) questions when you meet someone for the first time. When you know a person very well, you may bring up questions like a person’s age.

【1】In many Asian countries, it is impolite to shake hands.

【2】“Do as the Romans do” means “入乡随俗” in Chinese.

【3】The better thing is not to talk about your situation.

  • 22、   Thanksgiving Day was near. A first grade teacher gave her class a fun task——to draw a picture of something for which they were thankful.

Most of the students didn’t come from rich families, but many would still celebrate the holiday with turkey and other traditional customs(习俗). These, the teacher thought, would be the subjects of most of the students’ art. And they were, for the most part.

But one student named Douglas drew a different kind of picture. Douglas was a different kind of boy. He was often sad. While other children would play with each other during break time, he would stand closely by his teacher's side. There was pain behind his sad eyes. But what was it? One could only guess.

Yes, his picture was different. He drew a hand. Nothing else. Just an empty hand.

Other children started to guess whose hand it could be. One child guessed it was the hand of a farmer, because farmers raise turkeys. Another suggested a police officer, because police keep people safe. And so the discussion went on.

Finally the teacher walked over to Douglas'desk, bent down and asked him whose hand it was.

The little boy looked away and said, “It’s yours, teacher.”

She recalled(回想起) the times when she had taken his hand and walked with him here or there, and times when shed said things like “Take my hand Douglas, we’ll go outside” or “Let me show you how to hold your pencil.”

Douglas was most thankful for his teacher's hand.

1The teacher started this task to____________

A.see which students were from rich families.

B.help students remember to be thankful.

C.find out which students were good at drawing.

D.show that some traditions are out of date.

2What do we know about the boy____________.

A.Nobody wanted to be his friend B.The teacher didn't let him play

C.There were problems with his eyes D.Nobody knew why he was sad

    3What did the boy draw?

A.A turkey B.A farmer C.A police officer D.An empty hand

4With his picture, the boy tried to____________

A.show that he had a talent for drawing B.show that he liked Thanksgiving

C.express his thanks for his teacher D.help the teacher set up a discussion

Remember to cut these things into small pieces, put some salt and oil into it and mix them.

When all these are done, we can start making dumplings. First put a spoonful of filling in the center of the wrappers. Then stick() the two opposite sides together. • 24、Dear Miss Hooper,

I’m writing to thank you for your help this year. There were lots of subjects (主题) in class, but you made sure that I could understand every one. To tell the truth, you’re the best teacher I’ve met. You explain things so clearly, and are also so kind. I really enjoyed every minute of your class.

I really believe you have a great teaching skill. You should be very proud (自豪的) of the way that you help children learn. It is because of you that I’ve decided to become a teacher when I grow up.

I have mixed feelings about school next year. I’m sad that you won’t be my teacher anymore. However, I’m happy that other children will get to share your knowledge (学问). I’m sure that they’ll thank you for your good work.
