Since the NCP outbreak began in December, Japan has given away plenty of medical supplies to China. On the boxes of these things, poetic messages from ancient Chinese and Japanese poems are often written. Let's take a look at some of them.

    山川异域,风月同天。

    Lands apart, sky shared.

This line comes from a Buddhist hymn(佛诗) by Prince Nagaya(长屋亲王) of Japan. He wrote the hymn as an invitation for Chinese monks(和尚) to visit Japan. Inspired by the hymn, Jianzhen, a well-known monk of the Tang Dynasty, started his first sail to Japan soon after.

    岂曰无衣? 与子同裳。

Fear not the want of armor(盔甲), for mine is also yours to wear.

This line is from a battle(战役)song of the Qin state, Wuyi(《无衣》). The song refers to soldiers sharing their armor, encouraging each other to win the battle.

    青山一道同云雨,明月何曾是两乡。

Though separated by a mountain, we'll share the same clouds and the same bright moon.

This line is from Tang poet Wang Changling's Seeing Off Imperial Censor Chai(《送柴侍御》). This poem was written after the poet was demoted(贬官) and sent to a faraway place. He wanted to show that even though he had to separate with his friend, their friendship would continue.

【1】From the chart, we can know that __________.

A.all these poems mentioned above were written by Chinese.

B.Jianzhen went to Japan by the inspiration of a Buddhist hymn.

C.Wuyi is a poem to encourage friends to share their clothes with each other.

【2】Which of the following are you supposed to use if you want to express your feelings toward your separated friends?

    A.Lands apart, sky shared.

B.Fear not the want of armor, for mine is also yours to wear.

C.Though separated by a mountain, we'll share the same clouds and the same bright moon.

【3】Why were some poetic messages written on the boxes of medical supplies?

A.Because they are very beautiful and easy to remember.

B.Because they can help Chinese people understand ancient poems better.

C.Because they are like a bridge connecting people in two countries and bringing them closer.

What is the best-selling book in the world? Is it the Harry Potter series or Secret Garden? According to the Guinness World Records, the Xinhua Dictionary, published by the Commercial Press in China, is the world’s most popular dictionary and the best-selling book.

In 1950, Chinese language experts(专家) and scholars, Wei Jiangong and Ye Shengtao, started to edit(编辑) the Xinhua Dictionary. There was a lot of discussion, research and paper work. Some hand scripts (稿件) were checked again and again like compositions, People’s Daily reported. Many people’s hard work and interesting stories went into making the dictionary.

In 1953, the first Xinhua Dictionary was published. Today, 567 million copies of the dictionary have been sold worldwide.

However, revisions (修订) to the dictionary continue to be made. According to Yu Guilin from Commercial Press, editors(编辑) usually summarize (总结) the meaning of words again while revising. If the example sentences are out of date, editors need to have experiences and make new examples. “To give a correct explanation of the word ‘焗油 (deep condition)’ , one editor went to a barber shop (理发店) to experience it for himself,” Yu told the Beijing Times. So far, the Xinhua Dictionary has been revised 11 times.

To keep up with the times, some popular and widely used internet words are also added to the dictionary. For example, in the 11th edition, the phrases “晒工资 (show off salary)” and “晒照片 (show off pictures)” were included.

All these efforts create the “National Dictionary” of China. The Xinhua Dictionary is not only a useful tool for generations of Chinese people. It also helps foreigners who are learning the Chinese language and culture.

1According to Guinness World Records, the best-selling book is _____.

    A. the Xinhua Dictionary

    B. the Harry Potter series

    C. Secret Garden

  • 27、A day is made up of hundreds of small decisions. I'll wear this; I'll buy this; I'll have this for lunch; I'll go there at 3 o'clock; I'll reply to this e-mail.

For some people, it's not a big deal. For others, however, making decisions isn't easy. They agonize over what to do, changing their minds back and forth. and second guessing themselves even after the decision has been made.

Emily was in the restaurant with her husband. After several minutes of reading the menu , she said , "Um , let's see. I don't know what to order. Maybe I'll have the burger; no wait, the pasta seems good. Or, maybe the soup and salad. Don, what are you ordering? OK; that sounds good ; I'll have that too. " Don often gets annoyed (恼怒的) .He doesn't understand why she finds the simplest decisions so difficult. He sometimes makes decisions for the two of them. But Emily gets annoyed with him for being so controlling. "But we'd never decide anything if I left it up to you," he argues.

Good decision-making is a skill that comes easily to some people, not so easily to others. Choices are confusing. Choices can make you anxious. They can cost you peace of mind, even after you've made the decision. The skill of good decision-making has become increasingly important. Why? Because we have a lot of choices, both with the simple and the serious things in life.

Decisions force us to close the door on other possibilities. Accept that you can't have it all. You can't order every delicious dish on the menu. And there will be paths not taken, things not experienced. Let the past be. Live in the present where what you do today will make a difference.

It's often good to think through your decisions, but don't overdo it. More thinking is not always better thinking. Too much research may lead to confusion. Sixth sense can help make decisions as good as careful study of endless data(数据) , sometimes even better.

Some decisions don't work out as expected ; this doesn't mean that you made a bad one. You decide to go on a cruise (油轮旅行) . You choose a large and beautiful ship. Everything should work out just right. Only you didn't count on a bug that spread through the ship, making you and your family sick for five clays. You felt terrible for making such a stupid decision. No. You did not make a stupid decision. It's just that sometimes the unexpected happens.

Try to make your decision. After all, it's your special experience.

【1】The words "agonize over" in Paragraph 2 probably mean" ".

A.think about a difficult decision carefully and with lots of effort

B.stick to the big decision that you have made

C.let go of the decision that you have made

D.fear to make decision out of uncertainty

【2】The writer mentioned Emily and her husband in Paragraph 3 to .

    A.criticize Emily's husband for controlling

B.show how annoying indecisiveness could be

C.introduce how hard it was to decide what to eat

D.explain the difficulty Emily had when making a decision

【3】What can we learn from the passage?

A.We should think about all the possibilities before making a good decision.

B.Neither research nor data may help people with decision-making.

C.Sometimes unexpected situation may waste a good decision.

D.People feel terrible when making decisions.

【4】Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?

A.Do you have difficulty making decisions?

B.Are you good at making a difficult decision?

C.Can you make a right decision easily or not?

D.Would you like to make decisions for others?
