二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   You may have grown up living with sisters and brothers, or this may be your first time sharing your living space with someone else. Having a roommate surely has its challenges.

However, it can also be a great part of your college experience. Follow these tips to make sure you and your roommate keep things pleasant and supportive throughout the year.

    Be clear from the beginning.

Maybe you hate it when someone interrupts you when you are sleeping every morning. Maybe you need ten minutes to yourself before talking to anyone after you wake up. 【1】 It's not fair to expect him or her to pick up on them right away, and communicating what you need is one of the best ways to get rid of problems before they become problems.

    【2】

This may seem simple, but it's probably one of the biggest reasons why roommates experience conflicts. Don't you think he'll mind if you borrow his shoes for a quick soccer game? For all you know, you just stepped over an uncrossable line. Don't borrow, use, or take anything without getting permission first.

    Be open to change.

You should expect to learn and grow and change during your time at school. 【3】As the term progresses, realize things will change for both of you. Be comfortable addressing things that unexpectedly come up, setting new rules, and being flexible to your changing environment.

    Follow the Golden Rule.

【4】 No matter what your relationship is at the end of the year, you can take comfort knowing you acted like an adult and treated your roommate with respect.

    A.Respect your roommate's things.

B.Let your roommate know about your preferences.

C.Treat your roommate like you'd like to be treated.

D.Living with a roommate is really a wonderful thing.

E.You should correct your bad habits first.

F.And the same should happen to your roommate, if all goes well.

  • 27、   Brooke wanted a dollhouse and some sugar cookies. So the 6-year-old asked Alexa to get them. Alexa wasn't her mom or babysitter. It was a voice-activated(声控的) home assistant powered by artificial intelligence(AI). Alexa comes with the Amazon Echo device(回波装置). And it made Brooke's wishes come true. After being reported on TV, Alexa devices in many listeners' homes woke up and tried to order dollhouses!

Alexa isn't the only AI willing to order up treats for you. Apple Homepod has Siri, Google Home has its Assistant, and the upcoming Galaxy Home device will have Bixby. People who own these devices use them mainly for listening to music, checking the weather, and setting timers. According to a report from The Information, people don't often do voice shopping. They do it mainly to order simple things like paper towels. But many experts predict a boom(繁荣) in voice shopping in the near future.

Convenience is the main benefit of voice shopping. You can shout out an order as soon as you think of it, even if you're cooking or driving. Besides, people who are unable to use a keyboard or mouse can shop without assistance.

But voice shopping has its downsides. Unwanted things aren’t the biggest problem. It's usually very easy to cancel an order or return items. The surprising thing is that these assistants are always listening. They have to be able to respond when you want them. So they listen for 'Alexa' or 'OK Google' or another command. When they hear it, they start recording the conversation. Some have worried about what happens to these recordings. Should companies be allowed to use them to learn about people's shopping habits? What if someone hacks(非法侵入) the device? What if someone hacks smart TVs to turn them into spies that listen all the time?

    1What is Alexa?

A.A TV reporter. B.A friend of Brooke.

    C.A voice-activated device. D.A cookie maker.

2What can you learn from paragraph2?

A.Alexa is the best AI device.

B.People buy various things through voice shopping.

C.People use Bixby mainly for listening to music.

D.Voice shopping may have a bright future.

3What is the author's attitude towards Alexa devices?

    A.Optimistic. B.Doubtful.

    C.Objective. D.Negative.

4What's the best title of the text?

A.How did Brooke' wishes come true? B.The voice-activated home assistant-Alexa

C.How can we start voice shopping? D.What convenience do Alexa devices bring?

  • 29、   Sarah got a sudden sinking feeling, and she could sense approaching danger. Without thinking she stood up, and faced toward the direction of the sound. That's when she saw a gray tail through the bushes. Desperately Sarah climbed up a tall pine tree. She knew its smell would be of some help. The merciless creature stepped in, sniffing around.

The branch cracking slightly, the wolf looked around, then up and made direct eye contact with Sarah. It gave a short howl, and then two more large wolves came running. Sarah grabbed a branch and threw it far behind them, who dashed after it, but weren't gone for long. They had realized they were tricked. They started jumping at her legs, and the worst happened. The branch, her lifeline, gave out on her and she landed onto the ground, nearly on top of the lead wolf. They immediately surrounded her, glaring at her in the eyes. She raised her head, thinking to herself, "If this is the way I am going to die, I might as well die with dignity." Grabbing the branch that betrayed her, she stood up, smacking it around, and the wolves began backing up.

Finally she was able to get out of the circle, and ran over to a spot with a bunch of empty bottles. She tied one to each fist, and then smashed them on a rock so that if she hit one of the wolves, the broken glass would cause a lot more damage. Meanwhile, Sarah grabbed a branch and was able to reach out and smack the lead wolf in the face. He fell down and the other wolves began sniffing at him, then she rushed as fast as possible.
