22、 The Earth has warmed by about half a degree (0.5度) over the last 100 years. It could be getting warmer on its own, but many scientists think people are making the Earth warmer by making a greenhouse effect (温室效应). The greenhouse effect is very important, Without it, the Earth would not be warm enough for us to live on. But just a little warmer than it is now could cause problems for humans, plants and animals.
Many of the things we do every day can change the Earth’s temperature. We send greenhouse gases (气体) into the air when we watch TV, turn on lights, dry hair, play video games, wash or dry our clothes or drive cars. The rubbish (waste) from factories and homes also produces (生产) greenhouse gases.
Even a small change in temperature can affect (影响) our weather. This can cause changes in the sea, the air, flooding (洪水) and our fresh water.
The change in the temperature can also cause changes in the living places for animals and plants.
Global warming (全球变暖) is a big problem, and we can do every little bit to help. We can also save many things. Remember: If you do a little, you can bring a better world.

For many people in North America, the last week was the coldest of the year. To help some poor people keep warm, some kind people tied(系) scarves to trees in big cities for people in need.
“I AM NOT LOST!” read a note on a scarf tied to a tree in Wilmington, “If you need this to stay warm, please take it. It is yours. Be warm, and do something to help someone else today if you can.”
The member of a teenage soccer team put many of the scarves around Wilmington. They bought around 300 scarves for poor persons and left them on the Bloomsday runner statues(雕塑) in Riverfront Park with notes like the one above.
A group of villagers also left their scarves all over the cities. “The scarves get right to the people who want them,” said Wendy Grahl, one of the villagers, “If you’re poor and it’s 30 below, a scarf is going to be welcome.”
“I’ve seen a lot of bad things happen, but I’ve seen a lot of good people that care for others,” said Ed, a homeless man who took one of the team’s scarves.

Secondly, these fuels will not last forever. One day, we will r【3】 out of these fuels. Scientists are looking for new k【4】 of energy. One is heat from the Earth. We know that the centre of the Earth is very hot. We cannot r【5】 the centre of the Earth, but in some places the heat from the Earth’s centre comes to the surface of the Earth. Perhaps you k【6】 about some of these places. One place is volcanoes (火山). It is very d【7】 to go near an active volcano, so we cannot use the energy from this.
