二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   An apology is an expression of regret for something you've done wrongand serves as a way to repair a relationship after that wrongdoing. We all need to learn how to apologize.1We all make mistakesand we all have the ability to hurt people. It isn't always easy to apologizebut it's the most effective way to regain trust and balance in a relationship. Here is a four-step framework that you can use when you make an apology.

Every apology needs to start with two magic words: "I'm sorry," or “I apologize." This is essential because these words express regret over your actions. Your words need to be sincere. Be honest about why you want to apologize. 2Apologize as soon as you realize that you've wronged someone else.

Nextadmit responsibility for your actions or behavior. Hereyou need to understand the person you wronged, and show that you understand how you made her feel.3 Instead, simply try to put yourself in that person's shoes and imagine how she felt.

4When you do so, you take action to make the situation right. For example" If there's anything that I can do to make this up to you, please just ask. "Think carefully about this step. Empty promises will do more harm than good. Because you feel guilty, you might give more than what's appropriate.

Your last step is to explain that you won't repeat the action or behavior. This step is important because you promise that you' re going to change your behavior. This helps you rebuild trust and repair the relationship.5 If you promise to change your behavior, but don't follow through, others will question your reputation and your trustworthiness.

    A. Don't make assumptions.

    B. After all, no one is perfect.

    C. Timeliness is also important here.

    D. Make up for the damage that was done.

    E. We all need to learn how to forgive and forget.

    F. You should try to see things from that person's angle.

    G. Make sure that you keep your word in the days to come.

  • 27、   Studies have shown that walking among trees makes us relaxed. 1There’s plenty of research showing the link between being in nature and being happy, but most of the research has focused on adults.

2 Explaining the motivation behind the study, researchers note that with environmental issues such as global warming, more studies are focusing on the relationships between humans and nature to find solutions to these problems, and the future of the planet lies in the hands of children and their actions. However, few studies focus on this aspect.

For the study, researchers worked with 296 children between the ages of 9 and 12. To measure how connected they were to nature, the kids were asked how much they enjoy activities like seeing wildflowers and wild animals, hearing sounds of nature and touching animals and plants. 3They also found that the more concerned children were about the environment and nature, the more likely they were to be happy.

So exposure to nature is related to active behaviors and happiness of children. What does that mean to adults? As we all know, children usually tend to follow adults’, especially their parents’ behaviors. That’s to say, when adults are outside and appreciate nature, kids learn by example. 4

Researchers say that children need role models who can gently guide them to nature with excitement and an attitude of a lifelong learner. 5 What’s more important is that they spend time together with children by exploring a fun and safe environment.

A.It’s so good going for a walk around trees.

B.Even just smelling the trees helps reduce anxiety.

C.And if parents enjoy being close to nature, so will their children.

D.Parents don’t have to be experts in environmental science or nature studies.

E.They found that the kids connected to nature were more likely to behave actively.

F.In a new study researchers wanted to see if kids get the same benefits from being outdoors.

G.Researchers will study more about the connection between children’s happiness and nature.

  • 28、There are many useful suggestions and pieces of advice that can help one to improve English. Here are some useful suggestions and new tips to increase one’s English language vocabulary.

Learning English vocabulary is about much more than just learning the right words. A broad grasp of vocabulary in the English language is based on understanding important expressions.

Learning a word will not help very much if you quickly forget it. Research shows that it takes from 10 to 20 repetitions to really make a word part of your vocabulary. Since most words are learned from how they are used in context, the more words one is shown, the better vocabulary one will have. Keep a piece of paper close to you. When you read, pay more attention to the word you do not know, write the word down and try to figure out its meaning from the context. Then look up the word in a dictionary.

Remember that if you do not use English words that you have just learned in conversation or writing, you will forget them very quickly. So the best way to learn new words effectively is just by trying to use them in conversation and writing. Remember also that practice is the key to fluent spoken English.

  • 29、   Fish have different personalities which change as they experience life’s highs and lows, according to British biologists.

Researchers identified different “personalities” in their fish by observing the boldness(大胆) or shyness of individuals, according to The Nature. Like people, some fish are very confident in the face of novelty or conflict, while others are silent and fearful.

The scientists selected particularly bold and shy rainbow trout(虹鳟鱼), and tested whether they changed their outlook depending on what life threw at them. They arranged some fish to fight and others to watch to see how both the participants and observers responded to victories and defeats. Winning or losing a fight, or even watching fellow fish overcome the difficulties influenced the future behavior of the creatures studied in the lab.

The researchers made fish compete with much larger or smaller opponents(对手), to ensure that they would win or lose their fights. These bold fish that won their fights tended to be even bolder when later presented with a novel food item; losing their fight caused them to be much more cautious.

Fish also learn by watching others. Bold fish watching a shy fish exploring a mystery object were much more nervous when later given a novel item for themselves.

Predictably, shy fish that won a fight also gained more confidence, but surprisingly, shy fish that lost their fights also grew bolder when exploring strange new food, Sneddon said, adding that this could be due to what she calls a “desperado effect”(亡命徒效应).

The new research suggests that animals can gradually adapt(使适应) their personalities. The results agree with the effects that life experience can have on humans.

1The third paragraph of the text is mainly about__________.

    A.a conclusion of the research

    B.an explanation of fish characters

    C.a statement of the experiment

    D.a description of fish fights

2What can we learn from the passage?

A.Brave fish losing fights become braver when presented with a novel food item.

B.Brave fish watching a shy fish exploring a mystery get less nervous.

C.Shy fish losing fights grow more confident in exploring new food.

D.Losing their fights causes the shy fish to be much more cautious.

3What is the main idea of the text?

A.Fish care about winning or losing a fight

B.Fish can learn a lot by watching others.

C.Fish have stress in the fierce fights.

    D.Fish have adaptable personalities.

4What can we infer from the last paragraph?

A.Life experience could change people’s appearances.

B.Life experience could influence people’s personalities.

C.Life experience doesn’t have any effect on humans.

D.Life experience will make people much stronger.
