二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、In my memory, playing the shuttlecock( B! f)game was one of my favorite things during my childhood. My hometown is in northeast China where the winter is very long-almost five to six months. Playing the shuttlecock outside was the main game in winter. Because I liked to play this kind of game very much, the shuttlecock became my good friend who was always around me in the long winter.

    How the game was played

Actually, this game was very simple. In a word, it just was played by a person who kicked the shuttlecock with his or her foot (right foot or left foot)and kept it from dropping down on the ground as long as possible

Sometimes we were divided into two teams, and each team had one, two or more persons. Then we had a match to see which team could keep playing for a long time(usually we counted the number of the kicks). The team that could keep playing much longer would win.

    How I made the shuttlecocks

It was easy to make them by hand. At that time, I really didn't know where I could buy a shuttlecock. Therefore, I always made them by hand and by myself(I didn't realize that they might be a kind of folk art, so I threw all of them away when I left the primary school)I used chicken feathers to make the shuttlecock. Particularly, I preferred to use rooster feathers because of their colors. Sometimes, I also used some thread, which was made of hemp, flax, or some similar things to make the shuttlecock, if I didn’t find chicken feathers.

For the small metal base, I usually chose two or three ancient Chinese coins with a hole in the middle. I just put the chicken feathers into the hole of the base, and then tied them together very well.

1What can we know about the writer?

    A. It is warm in her hometown in winter

    B. She only played the shuttlecock in winter

    C. The shuttlecock was one of her favorite games

    D. With the shuttlecock. she needed no other friends

2Why did the writer make shuttlecocks by herself?

    A. She had no extra money

    B. Nobody sold shuttlecocks

    C. Shuttlecocks were easy to make but hard to buy

    D. Shuttlecocks made by hand were considered a kind of folk art.

3To the writer, the best material for making a shuttlecock was____

    A. new coins   B. bird feathers   C. some thread   D. rooster feathers

4What would be the best title for the passage?

    A. Shuttlecocks made of feather

    B. How to play shuttlecocks

    C. My shuttlecocks

    D. My childhood

  • 27、Do you feel that it has been a long time since you came up with an amazing idea or something new? This is a sign that there are improvements you should make in your thinking process(过程). 【1】 Thankfully, effective thinking can be practiced over time if you try the following approaches.

    Think when you are relaxed.

【2】 If you can’t relax, the process is affected. For example, it may be challenging to perform well if you have pressure at school with coming exams. At this point, it is recommended that you reduce the pressure by getting support from people around you.

    【3】

Top thinkers learn from their past experiences and mistakes. Effective thinking develops with time, and you can use events to enrich the process. From every event, even the painful ones, you can learn something.

Get your brain and heart to work together.

  • 28、   Singapore is trying a new way to get its residents(居民)to stay away from each other. On Friday, the government announced it would start using Spot--a four-legged robot “dog” at one local park. The robot “dog” will patrol(巡逻)the area starting this weekend and broadcast a pre-recorded message to remind visitors of the importance of social distancing.

Spot will also be equipped with cameras that will scan the surroundings and help officials tell the number of people gathering in parks. “These cameras will not be able to track or recognize specific individuals, and no personal data will be collected,” the government said in a statement.

The government says it’s also using Spot in another place-at a local isolation facility(隔离设施)where the robot helps bring medicine to patients. Spot is generally used for inspections on construction sites or similar situations. It also has been used for public safety reasons.

Singapore’s government said Friday that it had picked the model for its flexibility. “Unlike wheeled robots, Spot, although not cheap, is very flexible, making it ideal for operation in public parks and gardens,” it noted. For now, at least one park guard will be patrolling the area along with the robot, according to the government. The new measure is an experiment to improve enforcement of social distancing throughout Singapore.

1What’s the main function of the robot “dog”

A.Punishing visitors who step on the grass.

B.Reminding people to have a safe social distance.

C.Collecting personal data for the government.

    D.Broadcasting a pre-recorded message on safety.

2Why is Spot equipped with cameras

A.To find potential patients. B.To offer help to patients.

C.To avoid some dangerous places. D.To help tell the number of people in parks.

3What do we know about Spot from the last paragraph

A.It’s very cheap. B.It can work alone.

C.It’s very flexible. D.It’s like wheeled robots.

4What could be the best title for the passage

A.Robot “dog” encourages social distancing. B.Robot “dog” is used for inspections.

C.Wheeled robots are popular with the officials. D.Robot “dog” helps bring medicine to patients.

  • 29、Constant notifications(通知)on your phone. TV news specials in place of your favourite sports show. WhatsApp and Messenger full of COVID-19 articles your out-of-touch aunt just “had to share”.Sound familiar? If our daily news intake was counted in calories, many of us would have put on even more weight in recent months.

While audience numbers for network television news shows remain much higher than usual in many countries, ratings are, in some places, starting to decrease. In the UK, news shows have recorded their lowest audience figures since the country went into lockdown. The Nieman Journalism Lab, part of Harvard University, recently reported that “news traffic to news sites, both in the US and around the world, is pretty much back to pre-coronavirus levels”.

There are also many people who are finding themselves consumed by the news cycle mole than usual. Journalists, communications professionals, doctors, scientist and, most recently. disinfectant (消毒剂) producers are among those having to stay on top of daily comments and data in a way they've never previously experience. For many, this is happening while they are working from home and managing blurred(模糊的)boundaries between their work and private lives.

So how should we balance news fatigue and anxiety with the need to remain informed on the latest news during the crisis? John-Paul Davies. a London-based expert, argues that for most of us, checking the headlines once a day is a sensible goal. This could be reduced to once a week for those with high levels of anxiety. He says it is also important to select “a trusted news site' or radio station with a focus on “facts rather than guesses”.

For those whose work is connected to the coronavirus crisis, experts accept it may be much harder to reduce news consumption. But John-Paul Davies says it's still important to make an effort to “put boundaries” around how much information you watch or read. Liz Martin, a therapist based in London, recommends regular digital check-ins with workmates doing similar roles. “It's really important to be a support to one another,” she argues.

【1】What happened to people during COVID-19?

A.They kept on putting on weight.

B.They lost touch with their relatives.

C.They were overloaded with news on COVID-19.

D.They were forced to choose between TV news and sports shows.

【2】How is Paragraph 2 mainly developed?

    A.By giving examples.

    B.By testing assumptions.

    C.By making predictions.

    D.By drawing comparisons.

【3】What does the author want to explain in Paragraph 3?

A.Making a smart and successful career move is very important.

B.The boundaries between work and life vary from person to person.

C.The advantages of working from home are greater than its disadvantages.

D.Some people are strongly affected by the news cycle for professional reasons.

    【4】What is John-Paul Davies' advice?

    A.Seeking help from others.

    B.Turning to reliable sources.

    C.Keeping checking the headlines.

D.Putting information in order of priority.

Ada looked through the observation window at the kids below, all waiting in line to get into the pool. She turned to her mother with an angry expression on her face. “Mom, they’re all little kids! I’m 15 already! This is ridiculous, isn’t?”

“I know, Ada, ” replied her mother, “but you’re a beginner, too, and you have to start somewhere!”

Ada had never been to a swimming lesson in her life. Between schoolwork and helping on her grandfather’s farm, she hadn’t had time for lessons. The closest swimming pool Ada had been to was the inflatable (充气的) alligator pool her mother bought her when she was five. Now that Ada was older, her mother had found a new job in the city, and Ada faced a new challenge — school field trips to the local pool.

The first day that Ada went with her class to the pool, she had no idea what she was in for. What could be so difficult about swimming? Ada confidently slipped(溜) into the water and held onto the side of the pool, expecting to be able to touch the bottom with her feet. But when Ada let go of the side of the pool, she slipped under the water—the whole pool was one big deep end! Ada threw her arm toward the side of the pool and grabbed(抓住) the ledge (池壁), out of breath. “I really can’t swim! Everyone’s going to laugh at me!” she thought to herself in a panic.

On the next field trip to the pool, Ada sat on the side of a bench, frozen with fear. She huddled (蜷缩) with a towel over her shoulders, too embarrassed to try again. When she came home, her mother noticed right away that Ada was upset. “Honey, I want you to take Bella’s swimming lessons at the local pool. Soon you’ll learn how to swim just like everyone else,” she convinced Ada, showing photos of Bella with her prize-winning students. Ada felt doubtful whether the lessons would help, but she had to overcome her fear.

    注意:

    1. 续写词数应为150左右;
