二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、It was a village in India. The people were poor. However, they were not unhappy. After all, their forefathers had lived in the same way for centuries.

Then one day, some visitors from the city arrived. They told the villagers there were some people elsewhere who liked to eat frog’s legs. However, they did not have enough frogs of their own, and so they wanted to buy frogs from other places.

This seemed like money for nothing. There were millions of frogs in the fields around, and they were no use to the villagers. All they had to do was catch them. Agreement was reached, and the children were sent into the fields to catch frogs. Every week a truck arrived to collect the catch and hand over the money. For the first time, the people were able to dream of a better future. But the dream didn’t last long.

The change was hardly noticed at first, but it seemed as if the crops were not doing so well. More worrying was that the children fell ill more often, and, there seemed to be more insects around lately.

The villagers decided that they couldn’t just wait to see the crops failing and the children getting weak. They would have to use the money earned to buy pesticides(杀虫剂) and medicines. Soon there was no money left.

Then the people realized what was happening. It was the frog. They hadn’t been useless. They had been doing an important job—eating insects. Now with so many frogs killed, the insects were increasing more rapidly. They were damaging the crops and spreading diseases.

Now, the people are still poor. But in the evenings they sit in the village square and listen to sounds of insects and frogs. These sounds of the night now have a much deeper meaning.

【3】What might be the cause of the children’s sickness?

    A. The crops didn't do well.

    B. There were too many insects.

  • 27、   It is that time of year when people need to lock their cars. It’ s not because there are a lot of criminals running around stealing cars. Rather, it’ s because of the good-hearted neighbors who want to share their harvest. Especially with this year’s large crop, leaving a car unlocked in my neighborhood is an invitation for someone to stuff it full of zucchini(西葫芦).

My sister-in-law, Sharon, recently had a good year for tomatoes. She and her family had eaten and canned so many that they began to feel their skin turn slightly red. That ’ s when she decided it was time to share her blessings. She started calling everyone she knew. When that failed, she began to ask everyone in the neighborhood like a politician, eventually finding a neighbor delighted to have the tomatoes. “ Feel free to take whatever you want,” Sharon told her. She felt happy that she could help someone and that the food didn’t go to waste.

A few days later, Sharon answered the door. There was the neighbor, holding some bread. The neighbor smiled pleasantly, “I want to thank you for all of the tomatoes, and I have to admit that I took a few other things and hope you wouldn’t mind.”

Sharon couldn’t think of anything else in her garden that had been worth harvesting and said so. “Oh, but you did,” the neighbor said.  “You had some  of the prettiest zucchini I’ve ever seen.”

Sharon was confused. Zucchini in her garden? They hadn’ t even planted any zucchini. But her neighbor insisted that there really were bright-green zucchini in her garden. The two of them walked together into the backyard. When the neighbor pointed at the long green vegetables, Sharon smiled, “ Well, actually, those are cucumbers that we never harvested, because they got too big, soft and bitter for eating or canning.”

The neighbor looked at Sharon, shock written all over her face. Then she smiled, and held out the bread that she had shared all over the neighborhood, “I brought you a loaf of cucumber bread. I hope you like it.”

【1】Why does the author suggest that people in the neighborhood should lock their cars?

A.They might be stolen by thieves.

B.They might be moved away by the police.

C.Their neighbors might fill them with their harvest.

D.Their neighbors might throw rubbish in them.

【2】What does the underlined word “blessings” in the second paragraph mean?

    A.Tomatoes.

    B.God’s protection.

    C.Helpful things.

    D.Best wishes.

【3】What did the neighbor do in Sharon’s garden?

    A.She harvested tomatoes only.

    B.She harvested zucchini by accident.

    C.She took some cucumbers mistakenly.

D.She stole something without Sharon’s permission.

【4】We can infer from the article that the neighbor’s bread would taste________.

    A.bitter but tasty

    B.strange and bitter

    C.hard and sour

    D.soft and sweet

  • 28、India now leads the world in smartphone growth. It saw a 55% increase in the number of smartphone in 2014. The number of Web users increased by 37%. Smartphones were the source of 65% of its Internet traffic and 41 % of its e-commerce, according to a report by the analyst Mary Meeker, titled “Internet Trends 2015”.

India’s Internet boom has started. Within three or four years, almost every adult in India will own a smartphone. They will be used to order goods, read news, monitor crop growth and so on.

Indian adults will be very interested in these devices just as young Americans are. 87 % of Americans between the ages of 18 and 34 who own smartphones say they never separate from these: “My smartphone never leaves my side.” Four out of five say that the first thing they do on waking is to reach for their smartphones. And three fifths believe that in the next five years everything will be done on mobile devices.

In the business world, the rise of mobile platforms is dramatically transforming many industries all over the world. What Indian software developers have to do is to start thinking about solutions to old problems by using all the features of these new devices. They need to take advantage of the unique properties of smartphones and tablets. As Indian software developers and enterprises master the smartphone, they will be able to export their solutions to the rest of the world.

  • 29、Sometimes you’ll hear people say that you can’t love others until you love yourself. Sometimes you’ll hear people say that you can’t expect someone else to love you until you love yourself. Either way, you’ve got to love yourself first and this can be tricky(狡猾的). Sure we all know that we’re the apple of our parents’ eyes, and that our Grandmas think we’re great talents(天才) and our Uncle Roberts think that we will go to the Olympics. But sometimes it’s a lot harder to think such nice thoughts about ourselves. If you find that believing in yourself is a challenge, it is time you build a positive self-image and learn to love yourself.

Self-image is your own mind’s picture of yourself. This image includes the way you look, the way you act, the way you talk and the way you think. Interestingly, our self-images are often quite different from the images others hold about us. Unfortunately, most of these images are more negative than they should be. Thus changing the way you think about yourself is the key to changing your self-image and your whole world.

The best way to defeat a passive self-image is to step back and decide to stress your successes. That is, make a list if you need to, but write down all of the great things you do every day. Don’t allow doubts to occur in it.

It very well might be that you are experiencing a negative self-image because you can’t move past one flaw or weakness that you see about yourself. Well, roll up your sleeves and make a change of it as your primary task. If you think you’re silly because you aren’t good at math, find a tutor. If you think you’re weak because you can’t run a mile, get to the track and practice. If you think you’re dull because you don’t wear the latest trends, buy a few new clothes. But remember, although you think it is so, it doesn’t mean it’s true.

The best way to get rid of a negative self-image is to realize that your image is far from objective(客观的), and to actively convince(客观的) yourself of your positive qualities. Changing the way you think and working on those you need to improve will go a long way towards promoting(提升) a positive self-image. When you can pat(拍) yourself on the back, you’ll know you’re well on your way. Good luck!

【1】You need to build a positive self-image when you _________.

    A. dare to challenge yourself

    B. feel it hard to change yourself

    C. are not confident about yourself

    D. have a high opinion of yourself

【2】How should you change your self-image according to the passage?

    A. To keep a different image of others.

    B. To make your life successful.

    C. To understand your own world.

    D. To change the way you think.

【3】What is the passage mainly about?

    A. How to prepare for your success.

    B. How to face challenges in your life.

    C. How to build a positive self-image.

    D. How to develop your good qualities.

【4】Who are the intended readers of the passage?

    A. Parents.       B. Adolescents.

    C. Educators.      D. People in general.

  • 32、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Sometimes I just felt like there were two of me. On the night of our school science fair, Mum and Dad both came because I was getting an award (奖励). They didn’t sit together but they each told me how proud they were of me. It was the first time in a long time that I’d seen them in the same room.

When I went back to Mum’s the next day, I was feeling sad and wasn’t paying attention as I rode my bike down the street. My bike hit a rock, and I fell down hard into the street, twisting (扭伤) my leg.

Mum rushed me to the emergency room calling Dad on the way. Someone put me on a bed and took an X-ray of my leg. My leg really hurt, but I almost forgot about it when I saw Mum and Dad both standing next to me. When the doctor said my leg wasn’t broken and I could go home, I went back to being the same old rubber band (橡皮筋).

At least at school nothing had changed, and I could be just me. My best friend, Trish, was in my class and we told each other everything, our deepest, darkest secrets. But one day Trish decided to pick Lisa instead of me to be on her softball team. I was so mad! So I hid her lunchbox. No one could find it. Later that day the teacher asked the kids again if anyone knew what had happened to the lunchbox. When she got to me, I couldn’t lie. I was sent to the principal’s (校长) office, and the principal called my parents. We had a meeting. Mum gave me her disappointed look that said, “How could you embarrass (使难堪) me like this?”

Tears filled my eyes. “I know. I feel terrible. ” Then the words kept coming out of my mouth like rocks rolling down a hill. “I hate that you get divorced (离婚)! You don’t even talk to each other unless I’m having a problem. My whole life has changed. I have two different homes, and two different sets of rules. And Tm always afraid that if you get mad at me, you’ll divorce me, too. ‘‘I froze. Did I just say all those things out loud?
