二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、Sometimes even though you're paying attention in class, studying for tests, and doing your homework, certain classes seem too hard.Although you may hope that things will get easier, most of the time this doesn't happen.

What does happen for many people is that they work hard as they fall further behind.【1】If you need extra help, the most important thing to know is that there's noghint embarrassing about it.No one is expected to understand everything, and people have very different learning styles.

【2】He or she may be able to work with you before or after school and explain things more clearly. But what if you don't feel comfortable with your teacher? If so,you can speak to other teachers directly.【3】

You might also be able to get some help from other students. If there's a good student, think about asking that person if you can study together.【4】However,keep in mind that this might not get you the results you need.

Another option for extra help is a tutor, either on weekends,or in the evenings. You'll need to tell your parents about this because it costs money to hire a tutor.Tutors sometimes come to your home, but there are also tutoring centers across the country.【5】Tutors help review and further explain things taught in the classroom. The advantage of having a tutor is that it gives you the opportunity to ask questions directly and work at your own pace.

A.Naturally, this makes them hate a class and everything to do with it.

B.Working hard means you can succeed.

C.The first place to turn for help is your teacher.

D.This might help because you'll hear the information from your peers.

E.However, you may be refused in most cases as no one wants to help you.

F.Sometimes it just helps to have someone new explain something in a different way.

G.A tutor may have broad knowledge of many things or may be trained in just one subject.

  • 27、In the competition of Olympic weightlifting, the athletes try to lift the maximum (最大限度的) weight they can. There are special conditions they have to meet in order to compete: body weight, height and strength.

The Olympic weightlifting competition mainly tests the limit of explosive(易爆发的)strength. There are not many lifters who really like the competition and the explanation is very simple: they are short of explosive strength.

The weights used for the Olympic weightlifting competition are added in kilograms. The order by which the athletes enter the competition is not general, but it is set depending on the event. Usually the athlete with the lowest weight begins. If he/she is not successful, he/she can try later. There is a maximum of three lifts allowed for every competition.

For many years the Olympic weightlifting competition was only for men. However, now women also take part in the competition. It was at the beginning of the 21st century that women’s competitions entered an organized professional environment. For women, the competition is more difficult because of their different body structure. However, strength training techniques are widely and successfully used by women, too.

Lots of the athletes who’ve ended up in Olympic weightlifting competitions have started with strength training only to improve their muscle condition and their body power. However, the demarcation line(界线) is not still very clear between power training and competitions. This is why so many lifters have got into the Olympic weightlifting competition, even if their purpose was different at the beginning.

【1】What do athletes need in the competition of Olympic weightlifting?

    A.The right age.

    B.Good eyesight.

    C.The right body structure.

    D.The right strength.

【2】How many more times can a lifter try if he/she fails for the first time?

    A.One.

    B.Two.

    C.Three.

    D.Four.

【3】What can we learn from Paragraph 4?

A.Men often do better than women in weightlifting.

B.Women need to use different training techniques from men.

C.Men can learn the training techniques better than women.

D.Women used not to be allowed to compete in Olympic weightlifting competitions.

【4】According to the passage, many athletes began to practice weightlifting because they wanted to .

    A.take part in the Olympics

B.get a reward in the competition

    C.strengthen their body power

D.test the limit of explosive strength

  • 29、While inventions like the wheel and the Internet have changed the way the world works today, there are some creations that never quite got off the ground. Let’s look at the strangest inventions from across the globe.

    THE TOMATO-FEEDING ROBOT

Japanese juice seller, Kagome, invented a robot that will feed you tomatoes with its long metal arms extended on either side of your face while you run. Originally created for the Tokyo Marathon, the robot even has a timer so that tomato-eating runners won’t use up their supply too quickly.

    THE ROLLING BENCH

It’s lunchtime and many people may be looking for a park bench to sit on, but the rain has made every surface humid. This is when the rolling bench comes in. When one side is too wet, a handle on the side can roll up another dry side for better sitting conditions. The inventions come from designer Sung Woo Park, from Seoul in South Korea.

    THE LED SLIPPERS(拖鞋)

We all hate hurting our toes in the dark, but a revolutionary footwear design can prevent this from happening again. The slightly strange LED slippers are designed to be comfortable, yet shine your path at night. With two in-built LED lights at the top of each slipper, the users can direct their toes at any area that needs light.

    THE FOOT-POWERED BICYCLE

It’s the unusual invention of German designers Tom Hambrock and Juri Spetter. Besides an unusual appearance, its function is also slightly strange, as the user must run to get the bicycle moving. As soon as the riders have enough momentum(动力), they’re able to rest their feet on the back wheel and use the handlebars to control its direction.

1What can we know about the tomato-feeding robot from the text?

    A. It’s popular with lazy eaters.

    B. It was the creation of a Korean.

    C. It was designed for a sports event.

    D. It has two plastic arms.

2Which of the following can replace the underlined word “humid” in the text?

    C. Unsafe.   D. Uncomfortable.

3Which invention was designed for its users’ safety?[

    A. The LED slippers.

    B. The rolling bench.

    C. The foot-powered bicycle.

4What can we infer about the inventions mentioned in the text?

    A. They bring us speed improvement.

    B. Their inventors are all from Asia.

    C. They are powered by electricity.

    D. They can serve us in different ways.
