25、 Knowing how to communicate well needs very personal attention between you and another person, we should face it. Is there a better way to learn how to communicate successfully? Yes, there is. Please follow the basic steps below.
Relax and breathe.
Whether it's a business meeting or a first date, the first thing you must do in order to communicate is to relax.
When you relax, you are in control. You control your reactions(反应) and your reactions do not control you. Breathing is central to relaxation. Take a few deep breaths and your body will begin to be more relaxed. This will help use what you have already known about how to communicate well.
Think and you will be prepared.
Have you heard the old saying, “Think before you speak.”? Well, it rings true. By thinking ahead about how the conversation might flow(流畅), you will be better prepared, more relaxed and more confident.
Follow the flow of the conversation.
If you are uncomfortable, being silent will only make it worse and make the other person uncomfortable as well. So when all else fails, you should follow through with small talks until a common topic appears.
A_good_way_to_keep_a_conversation_going_is_to_ask_the_other_person_questions. People love to talk about themselves and if you do this, they will keep the conversation going, thinking very highly of you. Learning good communication skills is not something out of reach. If you make an effort, you will succeed.

26、Seven years ago, Joyce Akinpe moved to Australia to start a new life, finding an exciting job in Sydney. After the outbreak (爆发) of COVID-19, she suddenly lost her job.
Seeing that there were many others like herself in trouble from the outbreak, Akinpe and her two roommates, Michele Gomez and Maureen Lee, brainstormed ideas for how to help their local community. They came up with a street pantry(储藏柜). Gomez said the idea was very simple, “Take what you need and leave what you can.”
With the help of Gomez’s father, they built the Blessing Box – a street pantry, with shelves and hanging baskets and two doors made from old furniture.
It sits just at the back of the three girls’ home, so they can look after it. They put some information notices into their neighbors’ mailboxes, and the Blessing Box was quickly filled with the donations (捐赠)from the community, “It is the community’s strong support that keeps the project alive,” Akinpe said.
We now have hundreds of people visiting our box every day. It might only a hours for the box to be full and next hour it might become empty again. “We are now helping others to carry out similar projects in their own communities, too”, Gomez said.
Lee said things in the box were mostly convenience foods, as well as some necessary life things such as spaghetti and toilet paper. “Few people take everything at once. They think there are other people who need them more.” Lee added.

27、Traveling around the world is cool but paying for it is not pleasing. There is a choice—doing house-sitting jobs, including walking a dog, cleaning kitty litter and milking cows. It’s a win-win situation, says Maureen Murphy, who spends 95 percent of her time staying in other people’s houses.
Although she has a mailbox in Texas, Murphy is rarely there. She is a professor at the University of Maryland, College Park but she teaches online.
“My life is a big adventure,” Murphy said. “I never stay anywhere too long. I am going to my next learning experience, and meet the wonderful people of the world.”
Murphy began her travel in 2010 and has done many house-sitting jobs. She milked a cow in the Blue Mountains. She saw the penguins on Phillip Island and took a helicopter tour above the Twelve Apostles. She also watched the fireworks from a boat in the harbor near the Opera House on New Year’s Eve in Sydney. “In Fiji I took a trip to Mantaray Island Resort where I swam with a manta. It was the most unforgettable experience of my lifetime,” she says.
Some homeowners need sitters to care for only their houses, do simple tasks like collecting mail and watering plants. Others want people to live in their homes to make it easier to take care of their pets. So traveling by doing house-sitting jobs has become a trend.
Trusted Housesitters has members in more than 130 countries. New sitters are encouraged to start out locally, because it gives them the chance to explore a new part of their local area, spokesman Liam Beauchamp-Jones says.
And for the sitters, the advantages are numerous. Murphy adds, “Go to new places, try new food, explore and tour and of course, meet new people!”
