一、翻译题 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 1、   1.What's your idea about success? Some people say that beginners have all the luck, while others believe that success comes only with practice. In fact, I feel both of these statements are not true all the time. Each is true in some ways but not in others.

For example, I went to a drawing competition many years ago and won surprisingly. As a prize, 2.我得到一张看功夫熊猫(Kung Fu Panda)的票。I was really lucky because it was the first time I had taken part in any competition. 3.Thinking that I might be lucky again, I tried joining in other art competitions. But the result was that I never won again. I knew that the other people had a greater artistic ability than I did. Art was not something I was especially interested in and I had never practiced the different art skills. So, the drawings made were not of very high standard(标准).

    4. 这些经历教了我很多。Though I might have been lucky at first, I also need to put in hard work. As we know, 5.practice makes perfect. So I believe success builds on less luck and more chances.

  • 24、Do you want to make the world a better place? Do you believe the power of love can change the world? LovePowerup, a new free app makes sending and receiving love as simple as moving a finger. The goal is to bring about world peace.

LovePowerup users can send love around the world to people who need love. They can also ask for a little love when they need. You can send and receive love from Facebook friends by LovePowerup as well.

The closer we feel to others around the world, the sooner we will know peace.’

  • 25、Energy is very important in modern life. People use energy to run machines, heat and cool their homes, cook, get light, and transport people and products from place to place. Most energy comes from fossil(化石)fuels--petroleum, coal and natural gas. However, burning fossil fuels cause pollution. Also if we don't find new kinds of energy, we will use up all the fossil fuels in the twenty-first century. Scientists are working hard to find other kinds of energy for the future. What might these sources of energy be?

    Energy from the wind

All over the world, people use the power of the wind. It turns windmills and moves sail-boats. It is a clean source of energy, and there is lots of it. Unfortunately, if the wind does not blow, there is no wind energy.

    Energy from water

When water moves from a high place to a lower place, it makes energy. This energy is used to create electricity. In Brittany, France, for example, waterpower produces enough energy to light a town of 40000 people. Waterpower gives energy without pollution. However, people have to build dams to use this energy. Dams cost a lot of money, so water energy is expensive.

    Energy from the earth

There is heat in rocks under the earth. Scientists use this heat to make geothermal energy. San Francisco gets half of the energy it needs from geothermal power. This kind of energy is cheap, but it is possible only in a few places in the world.

    Energy from the sun

Solar panels on the roofs of houses can turn energy from the sun into electricity. These panels can create enough energy to heat an entire house. Solar power is clean and there is a lot of it in sunny places. But when the weather is bad, there is no sunlight for energy.

    C. People in modern life use energy every day.

    D. Energy changes people's lives.

  • 26、Have you ever asked your relatives or friends if there is Wi-Fi in their houses? Have you ever searched for Wi-Fi when you are at restaurants or hotels. The answer will probably be “Yes”. Most of us want Wi-Fi everywhere as if we couldn’t live without it. But we can only use free Wi-Fi in some public places. We still have to spend some money accessing(连接) the Internet at most time. Here comes a piece of good news.

A rich, powerful organization in the USA called MDIF has decided to change the age of online computing(计算) completely by giving free Wi-Fi to every person on the earth. They will send up hundreds of satellites(卫星) into low Earth orbit(轨道) next year.

This is because they have made a survey and found that only 60% of the world’s population have been able to get information on the Internet. And this is also because many countries can’t offer people the necessary infrastructure(基础设施) to access the web.

We can expect to use free Wi-Fi everywhere in the near future.

  • 27、With winter coming, I finally decided to change the old blanket (毯子) and quilt on my bed. After years of washing and dogs and cats jumping on them, they were worn-out.

I found a nice blanket at a store and dug out an old quilt from my dresser. But when I looked at the quilt, I noticed that near the corner was a piece of tape (窄布条) with my father’s name written on it. I remembered that this was the same quilt he used at the nursing home during the last months of his life. I picked off the tape and held it in my hand. I looked up to the sky and smiled. I didn’t think my father would mind if I used his old quilt now.

Spreading my father’s quilt on the bed, I remembered the greatest paradox (悖论) of life: The end is really the beginning. Everything we go through in this life is preparation (准备) for the greater life to come.

Everything we face in this world can help us become better, stronger and kinder. The love we choose in this life is the love we carry with us into the next. But knowing all this doesn’t reduce (减少) your love for life here on the Earth. It intensifies (加深) it instead. Life here may be short and weak, but it is a gift.

My advice then is to live like today is your last day. Go through the day with an open heart. Welcome all the joy that the day gives you and share it with others.

C.the writer’s father wrote his name on the quilt

    D.the writer’s father’s quilt was very new

【3】How did the writer deal with her father’s quilt?

    A.She threw it away.

B.She sold it at a store.

    C.She decided to use it.

D.She put it back into the dresser.

    【4】The writer thinks that _________.

A.we should live for today because it is a gift

B.everything we meet now becomes true on another day

C.the more we know, the less love we will have for life

D.everything we meet must become worse in the future
