21、When a new school semester begins, many children fell very bad about it. They feel very nervous about going back to school. According to the experts, it’s totally normal. Transitions(转变) are hard for everyone, 【1】. That’s because routines are healthy for us, and changing into a new one can throw us off.
For parents, it’s really important to know that it’s very normal for their children to have a whole range of feelings about going back to school — from excitement, to anxiety and sadness, to even anger. 【2】. They might have stomachaches or headaches when thinking about returning to school in September. And that’s all normal, too.
One of the best ways to ease into a new routine is to help the children focus on what they are looking forward to, 【3】. It could be one friend they’re excited to see or even the idea of walking to school every day.
【4】. Walking or biking by the school can help. Hanging out with a kid who’s going to be in the same grade is a better way to relieve anxiety.
Getting enough sleep, exercising, and talking to reliable adults and friends are other effective ways to cope with anxiety and negative feelings. 【5】. “If bedtime is now super late, or there is no bedtime, try to move it an hour earlier every night leading up to your first day of school,” said an expert.
A.whether you’re a kid or an adult
B.rather than what makes them feel nervous
C.instead of returning to school without preparation

E.Most parents don’t have empathy for their children’s feelings
F.Besides, getting used to the new environment before school starts is also a good idea
G.It’s also suggested that kids should get their bedtime back on track a week ahead of school
22、A serious problem for today’s society is who should be responsible for our elderly and how to improve their lives. It is not only a financial problem but also a quashing of the system we want for our society. I would like to suggest several possible solutions to this problem.
First, employers should take the responsibility for their retired employees. To make this possible, a percentage of profits should be set aside for this purpose. But when a company must take life-long responsibility for its employees, it may softer from a commercial disadvantage due to higher employee costs.
Another way of solving the problem is to return the responsibility to the individual. This means each person must save during his working years to pay for his years of retirement. This does not seem a very fair model since some people have enough trouble paying for their daily life without trying to earn extra to cover their retirement years. This means the government might have to step in to care for the poor.
In addition, the government could take responsibility for the care of the elderly. This could be financed through government taxes to increase the level of pensions. Furthermore, some institution should be created for senior daises, which can help provide a comfortable life for them. Unfortunately, as the present situation in our country shows, this is not a truly viable answer. The government can seldom afford to care for the elderly, particularly when it is busy trying to care for the young.
One further solution is that the government or social organizations establish some working places especially for the elderly where they are independent.
To sum up, all these options have advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, it is reasonable to expect that some combination of these options may be needed to provide the care we hope to give to our elderly generations.

23、 Many people say that looking back is meaningless because it can neither change the past nor bring it back to life, but I disagree as I enjoy the sense of nostalgia (怀旧感), which can remind me of how life used to be when I was younger. Don't get me wrong, however. I'm not one of those who love to talk ad nauseam about "the good old days".
As we know, there are moments when the past springs into the present. It's often a smell that will remind me of a particular place or person. A perfume, the scent of a flower, baking bread, bonfires...they all create an instant picture. For me it is the smell of a freshly painted room. We moved so many times when I was younger and each time the first thing my parents would do is decorate our bedrooms. The windows would be kept open to get rid of the smell of the paint but it would always linger on (留存) for days. Even today it fills me with a sense of new beginnings.
Those memories are fleeting (飞逝). But when I visit the seaside resort where we used to spend many of our family holidays, I can replay entire days in my head. I can vividly remember the weather, the salty smell of the sea, our dogs playing in the water, an ice cream and that feeling of exhaustion after a day in the fresh air.
Although having many photos of those days, I rarely look at them as I prefer to allow my memory to create the pictures. Today we can so easily capture (捕捉) the present with phones and cameras, upload the images and share that moment with our friends online. But, for me, that somehow takes away the unique connection.

A.a new start B.a new home
C.another move D.another holiday

24、 There are few things in life that are more annoying: You are mid-conversation with a friend. Suddenly he bursts out laughing, making you think you’ve made a brilliant joke. But then he says: “Sorry, I wasn’t laughing at you, I just saw something really funny on micro blog.” He even begins replying to a text message or checking his e-mails.
The Guardian described the scene that a friend’s face buried in a screen “a distinct 21st-century problem”. The phenomenon even coins a new word “phubbing”, referring to the act of snubbing others in a social setting by looking at your phone instead of paying attention. According to research by advertising agency McCann in the UK, 37 percent of people feel it is worse not to answer a message than it is to “phub” your friends.
Phil Reed, a professor of psychology at Swansea University who has studied Internet addiction disorder, said many phubbers show symptoms of addiction to their mobile phone.
Like pointing or picking your nose, phubbing is widely considered rude, which can be seen from the popularity of “Stop Phubbing” campaign, which started in Australia by 23-year-old Alex Haigh who wants to shame people who snub friends and family they are with in favor of checking their mobile phone.
The campaign’s website claims that “97 percent of people claim their food tasted worse while being a victim of phubbing” and “92 percent of repeat phubbers go on to become politicians”.
According to Katy Steinmetz, reporter with Time, phubbing “has a much greater potential to hamper real-life connections by making people around us feel like we care more about posts than their presence”. She believes it is the reason why the campaign can resonate with people and is getting press around the world.
In the UK, Glamour magazine even imagined just how Jane Austen would have satirized those in need of social etiquette when it comes to using their smartphone. Or, to paraphrase the novelist, how it is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man (or woman) in possession of a good smartphone must be in want of manners.
【1】The example in the opening paragraph is used to show ______.
A.how people benefit from modern technology
B.how to reply text messages and e-mails properly
C.how to avoid hurting your friends’ feelings
D.how mobile phone addiction damages our social relations

25、Two of the most critical lessons learned from the pandemic are the need for effective national leadership and for clear, consistent communication. Countries that fared well had both in abundance; those that didn’t often faltered. The TIMES survey results reflect this, with_________was “leadership and public communication strategies” the only category in which every rated, on average, at least 4 out of 5 for priority. The highest ranking in the category went to “ensuring strong, federally coordinated responses that provincial, state, and local jurisdictions can rely upon for guidance”. The TIMES survey also identifies global health governance as a top _________ including to “reform the World Health Organization’s regulatory authority”. Unfortunately, the_________of this intervention was rated 2.86. I agree with this low ranking. Any reform at the WHO will be a long and tedious _________. Global health governance needs to occur, but meanwhile, individual governments can take matters into their own ____________. Second, they should strengthen international scientific____________. Third, willing countries can ____________ multinational agreements for transparency, mutual aid and partnership.
