  • 26、   Managing a popular tourist attraction can be kind of like throwing a party — everyone wants to come and have fun, but nobody wants to help clean up when it's over. But the Faroe Islands have come up with a creative way to take care of their home and welcome visitors at the same time.

An official notice on the islands' national tourism website reads "closed for maintenance (维护), open for voluntourism.”Following a successful plan this year, the country has made the decision to "close” its major tourism sights and attractions during the weekend of April 16-17, 2020. Hotels will be open, and flights will continue. That weekend, people all over the Faroe Islands will be working on environmental protection projects.

However, people who are just dying to visit the Faroe Islands during that weekend can sign on to help with the housekeeping. The islands are looking for 100 volunteers to come to the country to help with the caretaking efforts. There were thousands of applications for the 2019 plan, so would-be islanders better apply fast.

"For us, tourism is not all about numbers, " Director at Visit Faroe Islands told CNN Travel earlier this year." We welcome visitors to the islands each year, but we also have a responsibility to our community and to our beautiful environment, and our aim is to protect the islands, ensuring responsible growth." The first group of voluntourists included travelers from Mexico, Israel, Australia, China and the United States. The director said that because of the surprising popularity of the volunteering weekend in 2019, the Faroes will host the event yearly. • 27、   1 Spanish people drink Coca Cola, wear blue jeans, watch Hollywood movies, listen to American music, and eat fast food, and they do all these things daily.

I think that American movies are a good way to spread American culture because often people are influenced by what they see in the movies. Most of the entertainment programs and documentaries we watch on TV are from America, and most of the movies we go to are made in Hollywood.

2 Now, in our cinemas, at least twenty percent of the movies which are shown must be from Spain or from other countries in Europe.

American culture is very much a part of Spanish life. It’s certain that many things from America are as much a part of their lives as Spanish things. For example, Coca Cola is as familiar to everybody as any typical Spanish product. 3

However, it’s different with western fast food. For example, I don’t think McDonald’s is as successful in Spain as it is in other countries. In my opinion, one of the reasons may be the life style of the Spanish people.4

On the other hand, it may be that McDonald’s hamburgers will eventually replace the famous Spanish tapas. It’s true that in every city in Spain you can find a McDonald’s, and they are more popular among the Spanish children than among the adults.5

A.Many Spanish people like to watch movies.

B.The Spanish people normally eat at home.

C.I’ve known Coca Cola my whole life.

D.Most Spanish people prefer to eat in restaurants.

E.The influence of America is increasing in my country.

F.In the last few years, the government has tried to protect the Spanish movies.

G.In any case, it’s obvious that American culture has become a part of our lives.

  • 28、   We all have a favorite little spot to eat. Maybe it's a noodles cart or a sandwich shop. Well, it seems that you don't have to make that difficult choice now. A new Netflix documentary(纪录片)series, Street Food, aims to tell the world about all of our favorite little spots.

Released on April 26,2019, the series takes viewers through nine Asian countries and regions in search of local communities and their cuisines, from Tom Yum in Bangkok, Thailand, to snails in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Despite the series' title, Street Food is actually about people.

“At its heart, the show explores how and why some people end up selling noodles, sweets or rice on the street, and the answers aren't always easy,” wrote Zach Johnston of news website UPROXX.

Take Toyo from Osaka, Japan, as an example. He's locally famous for serving food and jokes. “He seems like the happiest man alive,” writes Calum Henderson in the New Zealand Herald, “until he talks about his father and starts crying.” Toyo learned how to cook as a child, out of necessity. His father didn't care about feeding him. Without any money, Toyo would cook weeds and leaves he found in the fields near his school. Today, Toyo has a job that he loves. What about the people who love to eat street food?

“In India, there's this Nihari stew(炖菜),” recalled the series' creator Brian McGinn in an interview with the website Mashable. “Every morning, hundreds of people line up for this stew in this alleyway(小巷)…as everyone tries to be one of the people who are going to get some of this stew before they run out.” Moments like these can be found throughout the series, showing that street food is important to local cultures and communities. McGinn says food is a way to look at and understand people's lives. "It's not just nice food shots," Gelb told Mashable. “It's the story, the context and the character that make the food more delicious, more meaningful and more powerful.”

1What does the documentary mainly talk about?

    A.Spots. B.People. C.Viewers. D.Countries.

2The author takes Toyo as an example to show that__________.

A.Toyo is locally famous for serving food and jokes

B.Toyo began to cook street food when he was a child

C.people who sell street food have their own stories

D.people who was poor can have jobs that they love

3Scenes where people rush to buy street food appear in the series because______________.

A.street food is important to local cultures and communities

B.food is a way to look at and understand people's lives

C.street food is more deliciousmore meaningful and more powerful

D.people have no time to cook breakfast at home or eat at restaurants

4What's the suitable title for the text?

    A.Favorite Little Spot to Eat

    B.A New Netflix Documentary

    C.Taste Life from Street Food

    D.Local Cultures and Communities

Middle English is the name 1(give) to the English used from around the 12th to the 15th centuries. Many things played a part in the 2(develop) of this new type of English. The most important 3(贡献) was from the Normans, a 4 (French speak) people who5 (打败) England and took control of the country in 1066. 6, the Norman Conquest did not affect English as much as the Angles and the Saxons’ victory about 600 years earlier, which led to Old English 7 (replace) Celtic. Even though the Normans spoke French for the e8 250 years they ruled England, French did not replace English 9 the first language. On the other hand, the English language did borrow many words from French. This resulted in even more words with similar meanings, such as answer (from Old English) and reply (from Old French).
