  • 25、   Students from two schools, The City School in Nigeria and Heathland School in the UK, recently took part in a project to compare their education and find out about student life in a very different country. As expected, they found many differences but also a few things that are similar.

The City School is in a district just outside Nigeria’s capital, Abuja. The school is surrounded  (环绕) by big trees and grassy fields that the children use to play football on. Heathland School is in a quiet suburb not far from central Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland.

Most of the 580 students at The City School are taught in pleasant one-storey yellow-brick buildings although some building work still needs to be done. Heathland School dates from the 1950s but some new facilities (设施) have been added recently.

Although The City School receives financial (财政的) help from the government, students still

have to pay school fees. It’s hard to find the money sometimes and quite a few parents struggle to keep their children in school. Unlike the Nigerian school, students at Heathland School only have  to buy their uniforms and pay for some extra activities.

Teachers and students at The City School are proud of their library and the science laboratory. They say that there’s not a school in the area that can match it. The school concentrates (专注于) on traditional subjects like Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry because this will make it easier for students to get into a good profession. Practical subjects like Farm Technology are also popular.

Heathland School recently became a performing arts college. This means that in addition to subjects like English and Mathematics, the school also offers lessons in Dance, Drama and Music  as choices for all students. There is a new dance studio which can also be used as a theatre.

  • 27、   At the beginning of 2020, the novel coronavirus(新冠病毒) went around China. Here are some questions about the virus.

Q1: Do pets catch or spread(传播) it?

Now there is no fact showing that pets such as cats and dogs can catch or spread the virus. However, for your health, you should wash your hands with soap and water after touching pets.

Q2: How does it go around?

Breathing and touching are two main ways. Chances are higher if people do not wash their hands after touching the infected(感染的) things. It’s possible for them to catch the virus by touching their eyes, nose and mouth. Children and old people are not strong, so they can easily get infected this way.

Q3: How long can it stay?

The activity of the virus will get weak after it stays in the air for two hours. It can live about 48 hours in a dry environment. Research has found the virus can live for five days if the temperature stands at 20 with humidity(湿度) at 40% to 50%.

    Q4: ________

Quite many may get a fever, feel tired easily and have a dry cough. Only a few have a runny nose. About half will have difficulty in breathing.

1What can we learn from the answer to the first question?

A.You needn’t wash hands after touching a cat.

B.Cats can catch the virus but they don’t spread it.

C.It’s said that dogs and cats don’t catch or spread the virus.

D.You should stay away from your pets for your health.

2The underlined word “Chances” means “________” in English.

    A.标准 B.重要性 C.速度 D.可能性

3What kind of weather does the virus like best?

    A.Hot and wet. B.Warm.

    C.Dry. D.Wet and cold.

4Which of the following can be put in________?

五、短文填空 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 28、Read the passage and fill in the blanks with proper words(在短文的空格内填入适当的词,使其内容通顺。每空格限填一词,首字母已给。)

I still remember my first 10,000m race. That was an unforgettable experience. I was not good at running. I was not strong enough, either. Why did I take part in the race? That's because of my volunteer work. When I was 14 years old, I volunteered to work at the water station at a 10,000m race. My job was to pass out water to the runners. I felt e1 when I saw all the different  kinds of people pass by and take a cup of water hurriedly. Some ran past, some walked past and a few wheeled past. After seeing so many t2 of people do it, I thought maybe I could also do it. So the next year I signed up for the race.

During the race, I jogged, I walked, I jogged and I walked. Sometimes I was even not sure i3 I could finish. Then came an important moment.

At one point near the end, an old man ran past me, very, very fast. Therefore, I was embarrassed because I was much younger than him, but I couldn’t keep up with him. I felt hopeless for a second. But then I r4 something. He was running his race and I was running my race. He had different abilities, experience, training and goals for himself. I had m5. Remember my goal was only to finish.

I learned something important at that moment. I turned my embarrassment into inspiration (鼓舞). I decided that I would not give up though many people ran past me. As I c6 the finish line, I was proud of my success.

In life we all have those moments when we compare ourselves with others. It’s only n7. Don’t allow those moments to weaken you. Turn them into motivation (动力) and let them inspire you.
