四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Most people cannot choose their jobs. They only have their jobs forced upon (被迫) them. This may be because they haven’t enough training for any other job, or because of economic situation, or because they live in a place where there is a limited choice of jobs, or because their fathers and grandfathers have always followed a certain occupation. The Indian born of farmer parents in a village has, for example, few opportunities of becoming anything but a farmer.

But if one is lucky enough to be able to choose the job one is going to do, how should one make one’s choice? One’s choice clearly depends on what one wants to get out of one’s job.

Some people believe that nobody can do a job well if they do not enjoy it. But this is probably true only of certain types of work. And there are those who have an ability for turning their job into something that is an enjoyable way of earning their living (挣钱生计), but who do not really do their work well. Some doctors, for example, who become rich and famous men are in fact not owning humanity (人性) which is necessary in their job, and may even not be especially skilled at their job. So are some lawyers. Perhaps many of the best doctors, lawyers, and teachers spend their lives working so hard for others that do not have time to become rich and famous. One must decide, when choosing a job, whether one wants to do a job for its own sake (为工作本身) or for the rewards (报酬) it offers.

1“They only have their jobs forced upon them” may means ________.

A.they make themselves do the jobs

B.they have to do the jobs available

C.they must follow what their fathers used to do

D.their jobs are chosen by others

2The underlined word “opportunities” in the first paragraph probably means “________.”

    A.hobbies B.forms C.efforts D.chances

3According to the passage, a person’s choice of job should be decided by ________.

A.his economic situation B.his family background

C.his purpose in taking a job D.his ability to do a job

4The writer seems to have a good impression on those doctors who are ________.

    A.rich. B.famous. C.skillful. D.hardworking.

5How many occupations are mentioned in the last paragraph?

    A.One B.Two C.Three D.Four

6We may infer (推断) from the passage that ________.

A.lawyers are those people who work very hard for others

B.humanity is necessary in the making of a good doctor

C.a successful person is one who can make his living in an enjoyable way

D.teachers must be rich and famous if they work hard.

  • 25、Are you taking good care of your hair and using the right products? Could your shampoo be damaging your hair? Should you brush your hair more or less? The following are a few tips to help you keep your hair healthy and shining.

★A balanced diet will help you have nice-looking hair. Try to eat more green vegetables, eggs and beans every day.

★Wash your hair every day, or every two days. Always use cool, clean water to wash the shampoo out of your hair.

★Use shampoo that is specially designed for your hair type (dry, oily, etc.).When using shampoo, be sure to massage your hair, including the roots, softly.

★Allow your hair to dry naturally whenever possible. Hair is at its weakest when it is wet, so never brush or comb your wet hair hard, and use a wide-toothed comb.

★Give your hair a good brushing before going to bed. Do this by bending over so that your head is hanging down, and brush from back to front. This will help remove the dirt from your hair.

  • 26、Jack thought himself a basketball fan. He watched quite a lot of American NBA basketball games. Not only did he watch them, he spent much of his free time playing on the court too. Then came the final year of his middle school. All of his regular teammates stopped showing up on the court because they were simply too busy preparing for the high school entrance exam to play. He was, of course, under much stress himself, like everyone else. A good exam result meant a good high school; a mediocre(平庸的)score meant a mediocre school. Much was at stake. However, he loved basketball so much that he still found time to play, this time with a group of guys who were said to have skipped classes(逃课)before.

Some of his teachers started worrying about him. They asked his mother to go to school to let her know that Jack was hanging out with problem kids. When his mother returned home that day, she wanted to talk to Jack. Knowing the purpose of her visit to the school, Jack thought his mother would punish him for befriending those bad guys. To his surprise, his mother was not angry with him at all. She wanted to hear her son's side of the story. So Jack told his mother about what he knew of Simon and Peter. Simon's parents were badly ill; Peter's father had lost his job. They both seemed to Jack to be normal kids. Jack's mother thought for a moment, then went on to say that she was OK with her son playing with them and that she and her son should think of ways to help these kids. Soon Jack's mum introduced some part-time jobs to Simon and Peter, which they accepted. She believed in her son and cared about those who were less lucky.

Jack's basketball friends and he have left for different places, but they still keep in touch. He knows Peter is now a manager of a local bank. Simon is currently a freshman at a university. Sadly, it is impossible to get together to play basketball again, but whenever they get on the phone, they talk about it all the time.

【1After Jack's mother came home from school, she .

    D. Jack must be influenced badly by problem kids.

    A. Peter's family are living much better.

    B. Simon is now studying at a university.
