  • 24、   A black bear was in a dangerous situation when she fell off a 30-meter-high bridge. After a long day in California’s Sierra Nevada mountains, the bear probably thought she was taking a shortcut home. She was walking across the bridge when, suddenly, two cars entered from both sides. There was nowhere to run, so the bear jumped onto the rail and began to fall over the side.

Luckily, the bear pulled herself onto an arch(拱)under the bridge, but she was trapped there. A driver saw the unbelievable scene and called 911. Robert Brooks, an animal control officer from the nearby town, was sent to investigate(调查).When he found it wasn’t a joke, he soon called Dave Baker of the BEAR League-a group that helps bears in trouble.

Unfortunately. The sky was getting dark, so the rescuers had to wait. Early next morning, the two men returned to the bridge with more volunteers. Amazingly, the bear was still there. Dave had an idea—they should hang a net under the bear, push her into it, and then lower her to the ground.

Police officers closed the road,. After the net was in position, Robert immediately shot a dart(飞镖)with a sleeping drug into the bear’s shoulder. When the bear was sleepy, Ann Bryant, the head of the BEAR League, yelled, “OK, push!” A volunteer rock climber used his feet to push the bear off the arch, right into the middle of the net!

Firefighters volunteered to lower the 100-kilogram bear. When she touched to ground, everyone cheered. Ann and Robert guided the sleepy bear to a river, where she could finally get a drink. “She just kind of lay down on her tummy and out her paws under her chin,”said Ann, “like a dog lying on the living room floor...only big!”The rescuers then cleared all the people there and left the bear alone. Since then, no one has seen her.

1The bear climbed onto the rail because she was________.

    A.lost B.excited C.scared D.anxious

2According to Paragraph 1-2, we can NOT know that________.

B.The bear was badly hurt after falling off the 30-meter-high bridge

C.Robert might be very surprised when he found the bear on the arch

D.The BEAR League’s duty is probably to keep bears safe and wild

3Which was NOT done to save the black bear?

A.The police cleared the way for the rescue.

B.Firefighters offered to lower the bear to the ground.

C.The bear was shot with a sleeping dart and pushed into the net.

D.The rescuers waited there till the next morning for the bear’s safety.

4What can we infer from the passage?

A.The rescuers had to make the bear sleep first so that she wouldn’t attack people.

B.The bear already woke up when she was lowered safely to the ground.

C.Bears often lie on the living room floor just like a big dog.

D.Ann and Robert knew exactly where the bear would go.

5The best title of the passage could be “________”.

    A.The Stunning Scene B.Bear Rescue

  • 25、Among various programs, TV talk shows have covered all space on daytime television. But no two shows are more opposite, while at the same time standing out above the rest, are the Jerry Springer and Oprah Winfrey shows.

Jerry Springer could easily be considered the king of "rubbish talk". The topics on his show are as surprising as can be. For example, the show takes the ever-common talk show titles of love, sex, cheating, and hate, to a different level. Clearly, the Jerry Springer show is about the dark side of society, yet people are willing to eat up the troubles of other people's lives.

Like Jerry Springer, Oprah Winfrey takes the TV talk show to its top. But Oprah goes in the opposite direction. The show is mainly about the improvement of society and different quality of life. Topics are from teaching your children lessons, managing your work week, to getting to know your neighbors.

Compared to Oprah, the Jerry Springer show looks like poisonous waste being poured into society. Jerry ends every show with a "final word". He makes a small speech about the general idea of the show. Hopefully, this is the part where most people will learn something very valuable.

Clean as it is, the Oprah show is not for everyone. The show's main audience are middle-class Americans. Most of the people have the time, money and ability to deal with life's tough problems.

Jerry Springer, on the other hand, has more of a connection with the young adults of society. These are people around 20 years old whose main troubles in life include love, relationship, sex , money and drugs. They are the ones who see some value and lessons to be learned throung the talk shows.

1Compared with other TV talk shows, both the Jerry Springer and the Oprah Winfrey shows are ________.

    A. more interesting   B. unusually popular

    C. more detailed   D. more formal

2Though the social problems Jerry Springer talks about appear unpleasant, people who watch the shows ________.

    A. show disbelief in them   B. are ready to face the problems

    C. remain cold to them   D. are willing to get away from them

3Which of the following is likely to be a topic of the Oprah Winfrey show?

    A. A new type of robot.   B. National hatred (憎恨).

    C. Family income planning.   D. Street accident.

4We can learn from the passage that the two talk shows _________________.

    A. have become the only one of its kind   B. shows the weakness in human nature

    C. appear at different times of the day   D. attract different people

  • 26、Gulangyu, a beautiful island, was successfully listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List on July 8th, 2017. It’s not only the pride of my hometown, but the pride of the whole nation.

Gulangyu is separated from Xiamen by the 600-metre-wide Egret River (鹭江), with an area of 1.91 square kilometers. It’s like a garden on the water. You can go there only by ship. Cars, buses and bikes are not allowed to run on the island. It is so quiet that wherever you go, you can hear the sound of playing the piano. As a result of this, it is called “the island of music”.

The first name of the island was Yuan Zhou Zi. In the Ming dynasty, it was changed to Gulangyu, meaning “drum waves”. Because the holes in the southwestern reefs hit by the waves make sounds like the drum beating.

Today, Gulangyu is listed as one of the nation’s major travelling places. The main places of interest here include the Sunlight Rock, Shuzhuang Park, Piano Museum and Memorial Hall to Zheng Chenggong which are visited by millions of people from all parts of the country and the world. What’s more, the buildings and food are popular with visitors.

Therefore, I hope our government can protect the fairyland well, especially the environment.
