二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、Do you ever listen to the songs that your parents like? Chances are that you don’t. You probably think the music that they like is old and boring and that the songs on your playlist are much cooler. But scientists found that people’s music taste changes as time goes by. So it is likely that your own musical preferences will follow a similar path to your parents’, whether you like it or not.

We used to think that culture and personality (个性) are the only reasons for different music choices. But researchers at the University of Cambridge noticed that as people enter into different age groups, their social environment changes, and so does their music taste. There are some musical periods that people go through in their life.

The first period comes in the teenage years, during which people like strong music such as punk and rock, because teenagers tend to be aggressive or want to be independent.

But as people move into early adulthood, their lifestyles change they want to build close relationships with others. As a result, they become fonder of contemporary music, such as pop and R&.B, which is usually uplifting and danceable.

When middle age comes, most people have settled down. During this period, people prefer music, such as jazz and classical, as well as music like country, folk and blues.

As for old people, they prefer old songs in their childhoods. They generally listen to relaxing music, such as country music and jazz music. But you must be questioning. “Aren’t there old people who are still interested in or even crazy about rock music?” Of course there are. But their reasons for listening to rock music may have changed. At that age people may listen to remind themselves of their youth.

【1】What do young people usually think of the songs their parents enjoy?

    A.They are worth listening to.

    B.They are actually less cool.

    C.They are especially serious.

    D.They are hard to understand.

【2】How many musical periods are there that people go through in their life?

    A.Two.

    B.Three.

    C.Four.

    D.Five.

【3】What kind of music do teenagers prefer ________.

    A.punk music

    B.country music

    C.jazz music

    D.pop music

【4】What is the best title for the text?

A.People Have Different Opinions on Music

B.People’s Taste in Music Changes with Time

C.People Listen to Music for the Same Reason

D.People’s Lifestyle Can Be Changed by Music

  • 27、It is well known that humans need meaningful social connection. 【1】 The stronger our relationships are, the more likely we are to live better. So how do we deepen friendships in our lives?

Shower them with affection. We often think of affection as love we show in romantic relationships. But affection is more than holding hands and kissing. 【2】 There are many ways you can show love to your friends. Tell them how much they mean to you. Remind them you are grateful to know them. These simple acts provide security in the relationship.

【3】 Being generous with your friends is an easy way to develop your friendships. If you’re a gym rat, you could help your friend train for a coming race they have. Or if your friend is applying for a university, you can use your research and analysis skills to put together a presentation for them.

Share your joys, struggles and even guilt. Think about how good it feels to tell a friend you secretly like a boring TV show and hear them respond “me too!” 【4】 Many people hold the view that it can be scary to be open with our feelings. It can come with the risk of shame or rejection. But people are less likely to reject you for being weak than you think.

Don’t hide your disagreements. It’s hard to deal with conflict in friendships. People often see them as something that should be fun and lighthearted, so they ignore problems when they arise. 【5】 It might be painful at first, but it shows you want to be honest with them, and that you want to make your relationship better.

A.Tell them how much you value them.

B.Value them with your skills and talents.

C.It’s about communicating love and appreciation.

D.In fact, it’s linked to our mental and physical health.

E.It means they accept us for who we are, the good and the bad.

F.People feel hurt when someone doesn’t keep their private information.

G.But dealing with conflict in a healthy way can deepen your friendships.

  • 28、With my kids laughing and playing around on such a cozy spring day, I couldn’t help thinking back on the past old days. What a magic!

I was a teacher before I had my first daughter. As much as I enjoyed being an educator, I decided to stay at home with our baby — at least for the first few years. I enjoyed every day we spent together for a year and a half until I found myself pregnant (怀孕) with identical twin girls.

After the birth of the girls, it was the busiest time of my life. Between bottle feeding two, changing three little ones in diapers (尿布), and getting them to sleep, I was a hot mess. I was so exhausted that showering and washing my hair took too much energy, so I often skipped them. One afternoon when I sat on the couch with my three screaming children, an idea struck me: I had to write this down. All of it. Every experience, feeling, and challenge from the past year and a half. I didn’t know how I would find the time to blog about but I knew I would.

And I did. I wrote during nap times, in the evenings, and on weekends when my husband was home and could help watch out the kids. It started incomplete sentences written down in a notebook or on my laptop. Slowly over months the words formed complete thoughts, then complete paragraphs. Soon, I had made another decision. I wanted to write a memoir (回忆录) in hopes that it would inspire other women in similar situations. When my book was finally published and drew some attention, I realized how much I loved writing essays that took the reader on a trans-formative journey, much like my own.

The old proverb says “write what you know.” In just a few short years I have had so much life experience that I have a lot to write about. My daughters are my muse. The experience of having all three of them has inspired me to pursue my dream of writing.

I feel I am still teaching, but now instead of through a chalkboard, my words flow through the pages of my books, essays and features. And the only identity and role I need now, is the one I have — as a mother.

【1】How does the author describe her life as a mother of three children?

    A.Busy and tiring.

    B.Messy and annoying.

    C.Pleasant and interesting.

    D.Amazing and meaningful.

【2】Why did the author decide to write a memoir?

    A.To achieve her writing dream.

B.To make a note of her past.

C.To earn money for her family.

D.To help more mothers like her.

【3】What does the underlined word “muse” in paragraph 5 mean?

    A.Target.

    B.Inspiration.

    C.Audience.

    D.Favorite.

【4】What does the author mainly talk about in the text?

A.How she brought up her children.

B.How she became a successful teacher.

C.How her daughters gave her a new career.

D.How her daughters made her a great mother.

四、短文填空 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 31、   Directions: Complete the following passage by using the words in the box. Each word can only be used once. Note that there is one word more than you need.

If you can’t seem to catch enough Z’s during the week, you’re not alone. But bad things happen to your body when you’re sleep-deprived, not least of which is weight gain. Well, here’s some good news: Sleeping in on the weekend to make up for sleep lost during the week is 1 with lower body mass index (BMI), according to a study published in the Oxford University Press journal Sleep.

The researchers, a collaboration of scientists based in Boston, Massachusetts, and the Republic of Korean, sought to determine if what they refer to as “catch-up sleep” 2 body mass index (BMI) in the general population. To do so, they conducted face-to-face interviews of a random sampling of 2,156 adults, comparing their sleep habits with their BMI scores. The 932 participants who slept in — “catch-up sleepers” (people who sleep longer on the weekend than on weekdays by approximately two hours) had a(n) 3 lower BMI than the other subjects. What’s more, every additional hour of catch-up sleep was linked with a decrease in BMI.

As to why sleeping in on weekends can lead to weight loss, one of the study co-authors, Robert Thomas, MD, MMSc, of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Department of Medicine at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, 4 Reader’s Digest of the “substantial(大量的) experimental and epidemiological(流行病学的) data that short sleep contributes to weight gain.” He notes, “our best 5 as researchers are that there are balances to be kept, and the body can adjust and 6 within reason. Catch-up sleep allows the basic balance to be maintained.”

Although the study showed significant differences in BMI with the 7 of two or more hours of catch-up sleep, Dr. Thomas points out that there are “substantial individual differences,” such that the benefit we get from those extra hours will vary 8 on how much sleep each of us generally needs. “To determine your optional sleep, you can track the time spent sleeping on nights when there is no need to wake up to an alarm,” suggests Liza Baker, a health coach at Simply Health Coaching. That tells you about how many hours of sleep your body likes to get, since it 9 greatly across the population, from just 4 to 5 hours to 9 to 10 hours.

So can you actually lost weight by sleeping in on the weekend? Only if you’re paying off a sleep 10 from the week, according to the result of this study. It helps if you’re also eating less, Dr. Thomas adds.

五、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 32、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

It was a pleasant sort of a Sunday as John walked in his uncle’s garden. His parents had moved to Delhi for work. “Your final examination is just a few months away.” Father had said, “We want you to stay with Uncle and Aunt, complete your exams and then join us in Delhi.” Uncle Tim was John’s father’s cousin. They had a Golden Retrieve called Oliver.

From the first day John realized that Oliver was unhappy. He was not given his meals on time, nor was he taken for a walk. Oliver was shouted at and treated badly all day. “Your uncle bought Oliver so that the dog could protect his house from thieves but actually neither he nor his wife loved him,” the gardener told John one day. John felt sad. At night he could hear Oliver whimpering (呜咽) in the cold. “Why don’t you make a coat for your pet?” John asked. “I have much better things to do,” answered his aunt.

One day John went out for a walk with Oliver when the sky suddenly became cloudy. As rain started falling, people ran everywhere for protection. John ran to take shelter in a sweet shop. A few minutes later, he realized Oliver was missing. John was sad and searched the entire place with the help of the shop owner, but failed.

John’s uncle put in an advertisement in the paper. After all he had spent a lot of money buying Oliver and did not want to lose him.

It was a half-an-hour ride by bus. The house was a beautiful brick colored structure. The middle aged lady who greeted Oliver was a motherly sort of a woman. She and her husband had answered John’s uncle’s advertisement in the paper. Since John’s uncle was out on an official tour, John had been sent to check on the dog.

“He is asleep.” said the lady, “Come and have a look”. Oliver slept on a small bed covered with a warm quilt (被褥). A pot of milk stood in a corner of the room possibly for Oliver’s next feed. “I found him on the back seat of the car. He must have hidden himself there from the storm. I had opened the back door of the car to put in the vegetables, which I was going to buy. However, because of the heavy rain I changed my mind and decided to do the shopping the next day. The poor dear was shivering (颤抖) with cold, when I first noticed him after arriving home.” The lady told John.
