二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   At CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2020, one of the more well-represented gadget (小器具) categories was definitely consumer robots—but none was more adorable than a new robot pet from industrial robot startup Elephant Robotics.

This robot pet is a fully autonomous companion that can respond to touch and voice—and even play with toys, and it's hard not to love the thing after spending even just a brief amount of time with it. Marscat's pedigree (血统) is a bit unusual, since Elephant Robotics is focused on building what's known as “cobots”, or industrial robots that are designed to work alongside humans in settings like factories or assembly (装配) plants.

Elephant Robotics, which was founded in 2016, already produces three lines of these cooperative robots and has sold them to customer companies around the world, including in Korea, the U. S. , Germany and more.

This new product is designed for the home, however, not the factory or the lab. Marscat is the startup's first consumer product, but it obviously benefits immensely from the company's expertise and experience in their industrial robotics business. Marscat walks, runs, sleeps, sits. stretches, bites nails and even buries litter although she won't produce any waste. It may express different emotions by different meows () or gestures. Marscat is unique from its eyesbody to personality. It has six characters which can be changed. She may be energetic or lazysocial or shy. Her personality develops through the way the users pet her.

While Marscat provides that kind of functionality out of the box, it's also customizable and programmable by the user. Inside, it's powered by a Raspberry Pi, and it ships with Marscat SDK, which is an open software development library that allows you to fully control and program all of the rohat's functions. This makes it an interesting gadget for STEM (Science, technology. engineering, math) education and research, too.

1How does Marscat differ from cobots?

A.Cobots is used more widely. B.Marscat is for family company.

C.Marscat is more difficult to operate. D.Cobots is a good housework helper.

2What can we infer about Marscat from Paragraph 4?

A.It is like a real cat. B.It has unchanged personality.

C.It can speak to its owner if necessary. D.Its litter box needs cleaning regularly.

3What does the underlined word “library” in the last paragreph refer to?

    A.A bookstore. B.A control room.

    C.Marscat SDK. D.A Raspberry Pi.

    4What's the author's attitude to Marscat's future?

    A.Questioning. B.Conservative.

    C.Prejudiced. D.Confident.

  • 22、On October 20th comes “Killers of the Flower Moon” from the director Martin Scorsese. At nearly three and a half hours, its length is nearly double that of the average film last year. Even movie fans struggle to concentrate for that long. During the premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May, some viewers dozed off. Afterwards there was a mad dash (and long queue) for the toilets. When did watching a film become such a labor?

Film-makers started producing long-lasting movies at a rapid pace in the early 1960s. Cinema was booming and filmmakers wanted to distinguish their art from television. Epics surpassing the three-and-a-half hour mark graced the silver screen. Back then, audiences enjoyed an interval while the projectionist prepared the reels for the next act. Runtimes of popular films experienced ups and downs over subsequent decades. But they have ballooned since 2018.

Movie series is one driver of this trend. Studios want to squeeze the most out of their costly intellectual property, but they are competing with streaming platforms for eyeballs. The hope is that a spectacular, drawn-out blockbuster (大片) will tempt audiences away from the small screen and into cinemas. This approach has often paid off: “Avengers: Endgame” (2019), which showcased Marvel superheroes remarkably with a runtime of three hours, achieved the highest box office revenue among all films in that year.

Anything that attracts people away from their sofas to see a film in theatres is good news for cinemas. But lengthy runtimes also pose a “fundamental problem”, complains Clare Binns of Picturehouse, a British cinema group and film distributor. Long movies can mean abandoning two showings per night, which hurts ticket sales and profits.

Another explanation for longer films has to do with directors’ growing influence. Who would dare tell the likes of Mr Nolan to shorten his masterpieces? Streamers, which do not have to worry as much about concision because viewers can pause whenever they like, may attract big names with deep pockets and promises of creative freedom. “Killers of the Flower Moon” will debut on AppleTV+ after its theatrical release.

【1】What can we learn from paragraph 1?

A.Movie fans tend to have a dislike for long movies.

B.Movie theaters should provide adequate restrooms.

C.The average movie fan cannot focus for over three hours.

    A.Expanded with air.

    B.Made great profits.

A.To demonstrate the trend of longer movies.

B.To highlight the success of Marvel series.

C.To illustrate the strong appeal of movie series.

D.To emphasize the studio-streaming platform contest.

【4】Which of the following can be the best title for the text?

    A.Movie Marathons: Past and Present

    B.Long Movies: Impacts and Reasons

    C.Filmmaking: Challenges and Rewards

  • 24、Getting stitched (缝合) up by Dr. Robot may one day be reality. Scientists have created a robotic system which did just that in living animals without a real doctor pulling the strings. Much like engineers are designing self-driving cars, the medical research is part of a move toward autonomous surgical robots, removing the surgeon’s hands from certain tasks that a machine might perform all by itself.

Doctors wouldn’t leave the bedside they’re supposed to watch. Plus they’d handle the rest of the surgery. In small tests using pigs, the robotic arm performed at least as well, and in some cases a bit better, as some competing surgeons in stitching together intestinal (肠的) tissue. “The purpose wasn’t to replace surgeons,” said Dr. Kim who led the project. “If you have all intelligent tool that works with a surgeon, can it improve the outcome? That’s what we have done.”

If you’ve heard about machines like the popular Da Vinci system, you might think robots already are operating. Not really. Today many hospitals offer robot-assisted surgery where surgeons use the machinery as tools that they control by hand to operate through tiny openings in the body. But robot-assisted surgery has been controversial, as some studies have shown it can bring higher costs without better outcomes.

Kim’s team at Children’s Sheikh Zayed Institute invented the new STAR system—it stands for Smart Tissue Autonomous Robot — works sort of like a programmable sewing machine. They added sensors to help guide each stitch and tell how tightly to pull. But the approach wasn’t perfect. In the living animals, the robot took much longer and made a few stitching mistakes while the surgeon sewing by hand made none. Kim said the robot can be sped up. He hopes to begin human studies in two or three years.

【1】What’s the best title for the text?

    A.A New Robotic System

    B.A New-style Way of Stitching

    C.The Newly-designed Driverless Vehicles

D.Robot Surgeons One Step Closer to Reality

【2】What will surgeons do when Dr. Robot is used in surgery?

A.They can help pull the strings.

    B.They rest at the bedside.

    C.They join in when necessary.

    D.They perform other surgery.

【3】Why are some people against using robots in surgery?

A.They can be out of control.

    B.They take longer time.

C.They may be expensive to use.

    D.They cause great pain.

【4】What can we infer from the last paragraph?

A.Robots will take the place of surgeons.

B.Robots will be improved by scientists.

C.Robots have performed surgery on humans.

D.Robots are doing as good a job as surgeons.

Years ago, not long after graduating from school and starting my career in Denver, I set off on an exciting alone trip to reunite with an old friend. As I packed my car, little did I know that this adventure would uncover the remarkable bonds that can form between strangers, all driven by the simple exchange of “thank you.”

My journey began with an exciting flight to Albuquerque, a lively city in New Mexico. My ultimate destination was Oklahoma City, where I looked forward to visiting a dear friend. The trip was relatively smooth, treating me to beautiful sights along the way. While waiting in line to pay for gas, I struck up a friendly chat with an older couple who were also refueling their vehicle.

Continuing my journey with joy in my heart, dark smoke suddenly rising from my car’s back. Panic grasped me as I hurriedly pulled over to the side of the road, unsure of our next steps.   In an incredible turning point of fate, the same friendly couple from the gas station pulled up behind my car. With warm smiles and open hearts, they generously offered to drive me to my friend’s place in Oklahoma City. During the ride, we engaged in lively conversations, sharing stories and laughter as the miles passed by. Upon reaching our destination, the husband even handed me his business card as a gesture of goodwill and kindness.

Appreciative of their help, I later expressed my gratitude through a heartfelt thank-you note.   In response, they sent me a precious Christmas gift along with a touching note as well. As the years passed, life threw another similar story on my way. On a significant day, I drove to a nearby town for an important meeting.

Unfortunately, in my hurry, I accidentally left my car’s lights on all day long. As nightfall approached, I returned to my car, only to find that the battery had completely died. Thankfully, I noticed the Friendly Ford dealership conveniently located next door. Filled with hope, I entered the showroom, where I encountered two helpful salesmen.

    注意:

    1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
