二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Have you ever felt as if the entire world was watching while you made a mistake? Well here’s some good news: it’s likely that no one even notice.

The spotlight effect is a trick of the mind that makes us believe that people notice us more often than they really do. We experience the spotlight effect not only when we make mistakes but also when we perform well, such as making a mistake in a game, giving a terrible answer in class, scoring a big goal or doing a good deed. In these moments, it feels like everyone is watching.

The spotlight effect exists because we all get used to seeing things through our own eyes. Every person is the main character in his or her story, and the events of our lives seem to have great importance. We are so busy examining ourselves that we actually observe very little about everyone around us.

The spotlight effect is a very common part of the human experience. However, in some cases, it can lead to extreme social anxiety and nervousness around other people.

Everyone suffers some degree of social anxiety. We all care about what others think, and we all want to be liked. It’s normal to wonder about what effect we have on other people.

However, this can be a problem when the anxiety is too much to handle. If someone is so nervous that they can’t make good decisions then it’s time to take action and improve the situation.

Learning about the spotlight effect is important because it can help us reduce our anxiety. The next time you feel like everyone is staring at you, remind yourself that it’s just your mind playing tricks on you. Another good exercise is to make an effort to notice the people around you, rather than focusing on yourself. If you fill your mind with thoughts of your friends and family, it will help you be less self-conscious.

    【1】What is the spotlight effect?

A.It feels like all eyes are on us.

B.We enjoy more focus from others.

C.It’s probably (hat no one notices us.

D.It is a trick lo make us perform well.

C.It happens only when we make some mistakes in great events.

D.It exists when we care too much about what others think of us.

    A.To release our mental burden.

B.To help us take more exercise.

    C.To make us more self-conscious.

D.To help us pay more attention in class.

  • 22、A study reveals it’s beneficial to write about a painful experience or difficult situation in a way that psychologists refer to as “expressive writing”.

Expressive writing is a specific strategy different from keeping a journal. The idea is to reflect honestly and thoughtfully on a particular suffering or challenge. Hundreds of studies have found that it can strengthen the immune system, including for people with illnesses such as depression, cancer, and PTSD. 【1】 And it may even help reduce symptoms of depression and PTSD, and prevent colds and flu.

【2】 Translating that disturbance into language forces you to organize your thoughts. Additionally, creating a story offers you a sense of control. Expressive writing works because it allows you to make meaning out of a painful experience.

Talking about an event can lead to reflection, where you are lost in emotions and may become overexcited. But writing forces you to slow down. Writing can reduce the neural activity in the brain, leading to a positive mood and an enhanced appreciation for life. 【3】

What if you think you’re not expert at writing? 【4】 Do dig deep into your thoughts and feelings. The goal of writing is to find meaning in an upsetting event. When you acknowledge the pain, you will be able to see the courage to face fears.

But there are a few warnings. 【5】 People coping with a severe pain or depression may not find it useful to do alone without therapy. It shouldn’t be used as a replacement for other treatments. Yet it can be a powerful coping tool for many, because it helps people fight the fear to face emotions.

A.It can relieve pain and improve mood.

B.Don’t worry about spelling or grammar.

C.Expressive writing isn’t a magical cure for all.

D.Expressive writing is a recording of what happens.

E.Spend just a few minutes taking down your feelings.

F.Realizing what is disturbing you is an important first step.

G.Writing increases one’s acceptance of experiences, and acceptance is calming.

  • 23、When it comes to getting a good night’s sleep, various habits that we engage in before bedtime can have a significant impact on both the quality as well as the quantity of your rest.【1】

●Make your To-Do list for tomorrow

Try making a list of tasks you want to tackle the next day, especially if you find that worrying often keeps you awake. Writing a to-do list can not only help you be more productive the next day but can help establish peace of mind for you to sleep better.【2】.

    ●Practice gratitude journaling

【3】. Making expressing gratitude a part of your routine can help you lead a healthy and happy life. The more you make an effort to notice the things that you feel thankful for, the more you prepare yourself to just naturally feel grateful instead of having to work at it.

    【4】

This will take no more than 5 minutes a day but can have a tremendous effect on your personal development. This helps you appreciate your achievements and shape a better tomorrow. Start by acknowledging one or two things you wish had gone better, and end your reflection by thinking of a few wins you had.

  • 24、In eighth grade, I decided to try out for my school musical. I only made it through the first verse(节) before the drama teacher stopped me. It goes without saying that my Christmas song didnt get me any role.

Am I embarrassed? NO. Not just because it was ten years ago, but also because its such a great story to share. Why? I think the main reason is that admitting mistakes makes you easier to relate to. Interestingly enough, science confirms this theory.

Researchers have conducted many studies and have concluded that when someone makes a mistake or acts in a clumsy way, they are found to be more likeable. In other words, if you’re able to do well and then you mess up, it shows your human side. This allows others to connect and relate to you, which in turn makes them like you more.

Growing up, I was type of student who had to get straight As and the type of athlete who always had to perform at the top of the game. The problem was that my standards were so ridiculously high that I was never happy. It was only when I learned to let go and forgive myself for my mistakes that I truly felt relaxed.

When one of your close friends or family members makes a mistake, are you quick to forgive and forget? Sadly, many of us often express more sympathy for others than ourselves. With each mistake coming a lesson, you will be better equipped to handle lifes challenges going forward.

More importantly, if you are always worried about looking silly, you will never be able to get improved. Even if you make a fool of yourself, it isnt the end of the world. Think about it: Whats the worst that can happen? In many cases, the reward often outweighs the risk.

1By writing the passage, the author wants to tell us ________.

    A. it is time to forgive others

    B. everyone may make mistakes

    C. its okay to make mistakes

    D. what can be done to forgive our mistakes

2What does the underlined part this theory probably refer to?

    A. A mistake makes you more likeable.

    B. An embarrassed person tends to act clumsily.

    C. People mess up in life at times.

    D. Its good to share a great story with others

3According to the passage, we know the author ________.

    A. is pleased with her hard work

    B. was once a person who wants things to be perfect

    C. was happy with her high standard

    D. never forgives herself for the mistakes she made

4What message is delivered in the last two paragraphs?

    A. Making a fool of yourself.

    B. Viewing mistakes as learning opportunities.

    C. Admitting mistakes is risky.

    D. People tend to feel sorry for themselves.
