  • 22、   Though not as mainstream as devices like smartphones and fitness trackers, more companies are now experimenting with the concept of connected garments. Among the pioneers is London-based CuteCircuit, whose latest creation is the “Sound Shirt”, which allows deaf people to “feel” live music by transforming the tunes into touch sensations in real time.

The fashionable jacket achieves the incredible function using software that changes the music into data and wirelessly sends it to the 16-micro motors fitted inside the clothing’s fabric. The devices shake in sync(同步)to the intensity(强度)of the music being played, allowing the wearer to feel each instrument individually. The series of touch-like sensations across the wearer’s body enables them to feel the entire works, resulting in a fully amazing musical experience.

To ensure the shirt is comfortable, the designers chose to leave out wires and instead wove conductive textiles(传导纺织品) into the garment’s fabric. Francesca Rosella, co-founder, and chief creative officer of CuteCircuit, explains, “There are no wires inside, so we’re only using smart fabrics—we have a combination of microelectronics and very thin, flexible and conductive fabrics. All these little electronic motors are connected with these conductive fabrics so that the garment is soft and stretchable.”

CuteCircuit, which has been testing the Sound Shirt for three years, expects to make it available to the general public shortly. Priced at $3,673(3,000 pounds), the smart jacket will not be cheap. However, twin sisters Hermon and Heroda Berhane, who lost their hearing at a young age, believe the hi-tech garment is a worthwhile investment, especially for deaf people with a passion for dancing. “It’s almost like feeling the depth of the music,” says Hermon. “It just feels as though we can move along with it.” Heroda agrees, adding, “I think it could definitely change our lives.”

1What is “sound shirt” meant for?

    A.Deaf people. B.Poor people C.Students. D.Musicians.

    A.Special materials. B.Powerful function.

3How did the designers manage to keep the shirt comfortable?

A.By using wires. B.By using smart fabrics.

C.By avoiding electronic motors. D.By making the shirt very thin.

4Why did the writer mention twin sisters Hermon and Heroda Berhane?

A.To persuade us to learn from them.

B.To get the public to know them better .

C.To state the smart jacket is affordable.

D.To prove the smart jacket enjoys promising future.

  • 23、   With the aim of educating both locals and visitors about Arctic animals and the value of preserving Norway's natural heritage. Bardu's Polar Park offers encounters(通近) with hand raised wolves.

I stood nervously outside the enclosure(圈地) at Polar Park. Somewhere behind the wire were five Norwegian grey wolves. "These are just big dogs," I kept saying to myself. “And they probably have had breakfast already.”

Stig Sletten, Polar Park's animal manager, said,' "Once you’re in with the wolves, lie down and don't stare them in the eye. Let them approach you. Don't stick your hands out. And absolutely don't stick your tongue out." That we were about to enter a cage full of “socialized” wolves was all down to Stig and his devoted team. It was Stig who founded Polar Park back in 1994. And it was Stig and his team who hand-raised the park's wolves from birth.

“These wolves have all been brought up to be comfortable among humans,” he explained. “Allowing them to meet visitors is actually a good way to reduce boredom and stress” Confident that we understood the strict rules of interacting, Stig opened the enclosure and we all followed him. Within seconds the pack was running rewards us, eyes forward, long noses down. For an exposed human, the first approach of five grey wolves, socialized or not, was a slightly unrest and heart-quickening experience.

But any sense of trepidation was quickly replaced by delight. The five wolves turned out to be fun and curious, and eager to check us out as we were them.

“Most people consider wolves unapproachable. There are a lot of negative or unpleasant impressions about wolves, both in Norway and across the world." said Stig. "One of our main aims here is to educate both locals and visitors about Arctic animals. Once they've got touch with the wolves of Polar Park, many of our visitors leave with a different view. ”

【1】Why did the author keep saying to himself outside the enclosure?

    A.To memorize strict rules.

    B.To restrict his excitement.

    C.To study wolves in advance

    D.To relieve his nervousness.

【2】What is Stig Sletter's advice on the encounter with the wolves?

    A.Approaching them actively.

    B.Standing up with hands out.

    C.Avoiding sticking your tongue out.

D.Looking at them with a kind smile.

【3】What does the underlined word "trepidation" in paragraph 5 probably mean?

    A.fun

    B.fear

    C.curiosity

    D.confusion

【4】What may the different view be in the last paragraph?

A.Humans and wolves can bond well.

    B.Preserving animals turns out easy.

C.Wolves are able to protect humans.

D.The value of education is ignored.

  • 24、   Most heroes are not super. They don't appear in comic books, on television, or in movies. They just do what they believe needs to be done to make their world a better place. Bike Batman is one of them.

Bike Batman is a 30-year-old married engineer who lives in Seattle, Washington. He's a cyclist who also buys and sells bikes as a hobby.

About three years ago, he was looking for a bike for his wife. He found one on Craigslist, a website where people list things they want to sell. As he often does, he also looked at Bike Index, a popular website that allows users to register their bikes and post reports when they're taken. The bike, which he was considering purchasing, clearly matched one reported stolen on Bike Index. Then he called the person who claimed to be the bike's owner and arranged to meet him-- supposedly to complete the sale. When the two men met, Bike Batman told the thief, "You've got two options. You can wait until a police officer gets here, or you can just get out of here." You can imagine what the thief did.

After that first success, Bike Batman developed a safer routine. When he sees questionable bike ads on Craigslist, he cross-references the image with bikes reported on Bike Index. Once he has confirmed it with the owner, he arranges a meet-up with the thief and will call the Seattle police department so that officers can participate in the action. In more than half of the 22 cases in which he has got back and returned bikes, the thieves have been arrested. In one case, Bike Batman even helped a family recover a wide range of prized possessions that suspects had stolen during a home burglary.

His nickname came from a discussion with a police officer who suggested he be called "Robin Hood". Since he wasn't exactly stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, "Batman" seemed a better fit. The idea of a superhero punishing criminals feels pretty silly to him, but the main reason he continues his work is to keep up Seattle's reputation as a friendly city.

1When Bike Batman discovers a questionable bike, he will first ________.

A.contact the owner of the stolen bike B.look up the bike's information

C.call the police department D.arrange to meet the thief

2Bike Batman helps find the lost bikes to ________.

    A.become famous B.help poor people

    C.punish bike thieves D.build a friendly city

3From the passage, we can learn that ________.

A.Bike Batman felt relieved to see the thieves arrested

B.Bike Batman began his good deeds by accident

C.the police failed to perform their duties

D.the thieves refused to return the bikes

  • 26、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

I looked out at the smiling faces packed into the school hall. Flashes from cameras lit up in all directions. The applause filled my cars. I had done it. I had really done it.

Just a few months earlier, I would never have pictured myself acting in, a play in front of two hundred people. But when the time came, I got up on stage and faced one of my greatest fears-and-proved I could do more than I ever gave myself credit for. I found a new person inside me, a much more daring, outgoing person who had been hidden all along, just waiting for the opportunity to appear.

If not for my teacher, Mrs. Sather, I might never have found that opportunity.

In the first and second grade, I was extremely shy. I had friends, but it just wasn't in my personality to be very outgoing, even when I knew someone well. I was afraid I would do or say something wrong, so usually I just smiled and listened to other people's conversations. I did well in school and I loved to write. However, I would escape into my writing, where I could be myself and never had to worry about what other people thought of me. In my stories, I was never shy.

My teacher, Mrs. Sather, always encouraged me to write more. She told our class to go after our dreams and dig in with both hands. I think she was one of the first people to see my inner strength. One day, she announced that our class was going to perform a play she had written." 'll begin to cast everyone tomorrow," she said." I need someone who is not afraid to be on stage in front of the public to play the lead part of Dorothy. Anybody want to try?" A few excited hands shot up—mice, of course, was not one of them—ad Mrs. Sather smiled." We'll talk more about it tomorrow," she said. Then the bell rang and my classmates slowly left the classroom.

    注意:

    1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
