二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   Cooperation at work is generally considered a good thing. The latest survey by the Financial Times of what employers need from MBA graduates found that the ability to cope with a wide variety of people was what managers have wanted most. However, managers always find ways to balance the benefits of teamwork, which helps ensure that everyone is working towards the same goal. With the dangers of “groupthink”,critics are reluctant to point out a plan 's drawbacks for fear of being excluded by the group. The disastrous Bay of Pigs Invasion of Cuba in 1961 was a classic case of groupthink.Skeptics were unwilling to challenge John F.Kennedy, the newly elected American president.

Modern communication methods prove that cooperation is more frequent.Workers are constantly in touch with each other via e-mail messaging groups or mobile calls .However, does that develop, or lower performance? A new study by three American academics, tried to answer this question They set a logical problem( designing the shortest route for a travelling salesman visiting various cities ) Three groups were involved: one where subjects acted independently; another where they saw the solutions posted by team members at every stage; and a third where they were kept informed of each other' s views only intermittently.

The survey found that members of the: individualist group.reached the: premier solution more often than the constant cooperators but had a poorer average result The intermittent cooperators found the right result.as often as the individualists, and got a better average, solution. When it comes: to: perfect generation, giving: people a, bit of space to, a solution seems to be a great idea.Occasional cooperation can.be quite beneficial: most people have benefited from a colleague’s brainwave or (just as often)wise advice to avoid a, particular course of action.

Further clues come from.a book, Superminds, by.Thomas, Malone of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He says that three factors determine the collective intelligence of cooperating groups: social intelligence (how good people were at rating the emotional states of others); the extent to which members took part equally in conversation (the more equal, the better). and the cooperation of women in the group( the higher, the better Groups ranked highly in these areas cooperated far better than others did.

In short, cooperation may be a helpful tool but it does not work in every situation .

1The author uses the example of The Bay of Pigs Invasion of Cuba in Paragraph 1 to__________.

A.prove that team players are skilled at communication.

B.prove that critics are unwilling to challenge anybody.

C.show that teamwork cannot always improving a situation.

D.show the danger of groupthink is not very serious.

2The underlined phrase intermittent cooperators"in Paragraph 3 refers to__________.

A.those who do not cooperate but obtain the best solution.

B.those who are never informed of others’ views.

C.those who cooperate with others occasionally.

D.the constant cooperators with a poor average result.

3Which of the following factors makes a team cooperate better?

A.Group members cooperating all the time.

B.Group members in a good emotional state.

C.Equal distribution of men and women.

    D.Equal participation in the communication.

4What is the main idea of the passage?

    A.The meaning of teamwork.

    B.In what ways teamwork operates.

    C.Cooperation is, a useful tool.

    D.Situations where teamwork works.

  • 22、In the past few years, it’s become alarmingly clear that misinformation has significant negative impacts on society.【1】It might be an article that misrepresents the broader context of a news event or, worse, an article that intentionally cheats readers about the facts of an event. From influencing the outcome of elections to increasing doubt about health care practices such as vaccine use, misinformation can be dangerous.【2】First, social media provide an easy platform for misinformation. Second, our brains like the dramatic and fun stories that misinformation delivers. And third, we like sharing those kinds of contents!

When you use social media, the “social” aspect usually overweighs your good sense about fact-checking or source credibility(可靠性). It feels like you have control over whose posts you see.【3】Social media usually provide casual ways to stay in touch with people and view interesting contents, as well as places to relax. But this means that when you mindlessly browse, you are exposed to misinformation while your guard is down.

We can’t blame the spread of misinformation only on social media, though.【4】These kinds of articles have high entertainment value. This makes them more attractive than the daily political news.

People who produce misinformation know that we like reading these kinds of stories, so they keep making them. 【5】To get out of the cycle, you can practice good social media behavior by remembering to “Stop, Reflect, and Verify (核实)”

A.In this way, we create a story cycle.

B.What are the impacts of misinformation?

C.Why does misinformation spread so easily?

D.That’s why it’s easy to trust things you see on social media.

E.Misinformation is attractive to us because it is usually dramatic and fun.

F.Misinformation refers to the spread of incorrect or misleading information.

G.And, unfortunately, we complete a cycle of misinformation when we read and share it.

  • 23、A study, with the goal of reducing the bad environmental effects of cattle, suggests that cattle can be trained to leave their waste in special areas.

In the study, scientists trained 11 young cattle to use the “MooLoo—a kind of bathroom for cattle. The researchers used a sweet treat to get the cows to push through a door and urinate (排尿) as instructed.

“The cows are at least as good as children, aged 2 to 4 years, at least as quick,” said Lindsay Matthews of New Zealand’s University. Urine contains nitrogen (氮). When mixed with solid waste, it becomes ammonia (氨). The chemical can play a part in environmental problems. It can also pol-lute water and create the pollutant nitrous oxide.

A single cow can produce about 30 liters of urine a day. In 2019, as reported, nitrous oxide made up 7% of all the US greenhouse gases.

Scientist Brian Hare was not part of the research but said he was not surprised by the findings. “I am surprised no one has demonstrated that before,” Hare said. He also added that if it could be done more often or in larger amounts, training animals would make it easier to deal with waste products and reduce greenhouse gases.

At the laboratory, the researchers put the cattle in the special area, waited until they urinated and then gave them a treat: a sweet liquid of molasses. If the cows urinated outside the MooLoo after the training, they got a shot of cold water.

Two issues raise questions about the study. Researchers gave drugs to the cattle to get them to urinate more because they had limited time. And researchers only trained cows to use the MooLoo to urinate, not to leave solid waste. Urine is a bigger problem, at least in Europe, but he predicted the researchers could train cows to leave solid waste too. The biggest environmental problem for cattle, though, is the gas methane. Cows release the gas that causes global warming. The cows cannot be trained to not release such a gas. Matthews said: “They would blow up.”

【1】What does the underlined word “that” in Paragraph 5 refer to?

A.The cows can be trained to urinate in the bathroom.

B.Young cows are as clever as 2- or 4-year-old children.

C.The result of the finding was proved vain due to limited time.

D.No researcher was surprised at the finding before.

【2】How are the cattle trained to urinate in special areas?

A.By giving drugs to the cattle.

B.By offering a sweet treat if they do as guided.

C.By shooting with cold water at them.

D.By measuring how much urine they leave every day.

【3】What do we know from the last paragraph?

A.Trained cattle and cows can largely reduce the global warming.

B.The next stage of the research is to train cows not to release the gas.

C.The method used in the research cannot completely reduce the pollution.

D.Cattle release the largest amount of gas compared to other species.

    【4】What is the text about?

A.MooLoo—A special bathroom is designed for young cattle.

B.Cows are to be trained for scientific purposes on a larger scale.

C.Environmentalists can make full use of cows’ solid waste and urine.

D.Training cattle to urinate contributes to less greenhouse effect.
