二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、With 48 impressionism works exhibited in his solo show in Yangon recently, Bhone Myat San, a 13-year-old boy, has stepped into a professional career in Myanmar.

More than 30 paintings, or about 70 percent of the works on display at the solo show at the Artist Gallery Cafe in Yangon, were collected from a show held in July at the gallery on the occasion of his 13th birthday.

When his mother was transferred to Dawei in 2020, he accompanied her and later joined a portrait painting class taught by senior artists at the campus of Dawei University. Bhone Myat San says he has been studying painting through online courses while staying at home during the pandemic. He also joined a five-month online class about oil painting conducted by an artist in Myanmar last year.

“I envy impressionists like Monet,” says Bhone Myat San, a seventh grader, while putting finishing touches on an oil painting titled Bagan’s Tharabar Gate. When his works were checked for exhibition, Khey Mar Shin, the owner of the Artist Gallery Cafe who’s an artist herself, noticed that he is talented. “He is the youngest artist to have hosted a solo show in my gallery. The event was successful,” the 42-year-old artist says, adding that she also saw that the 13-year-old boy’s passion for arts was higher than his peers and even stronger than some senior artists. Ma Pale, 38, says she brought her two children to the art show so that her children can get inspiration from him. Aung Hein Tun, 25, an art enthusiast who visited the event, says the young artist’s paintings are lively, and his painting skill as a 13-year-old is admirable. “I had no intention to collect paintings, but I bought one after enjoying his arts,” Aung Hein Tun says. Bhone Myat San says the money he got from the sales had been donated to the COVID- 19 infected people who need supplemental oxygen. “Consistency (一致性) is the key to success,” the young artist says.

【1】Why did Bhone Myat San move to Dawei?

    A.To celebrate his 13th birthday.

    B.To keep his mother company.

C.To visit artistic works by Monet.

A.Bhone Myat San takes great pride in his paintings.

B.Many artists get inspiration from Bhone Myat San.

C.Bhone Myat San has got much praise for his paintings.

D.Some senior artists set a good example for Bhone Myat San.

【3】Which of the following words can best describe Bhone Myat San?

    A.Proud and sensitive.

    B.Cautious and modest.

    C.Smart and adventurous.

    D.Gifted and caring.

  • 22、How do you celebrate New Year’s Day? If I had to take a guess, you probably celebrate New Year’s Day surrounded by family and friends, enjoying drinks of your choice (probably wine and champagne) and watching the ball drop. If you’re particularly lucky, perhaps you share a kiss with that special someone when the clock hits 00:00am. Have you ever imagined how New Year’s Day would look in another country? Listed below are five of the top ten “Unique New Year Traditions from Around the World.”

    1. Breaking Dishes on Neighbor’s Door——Denmark

A strange and weird Danish New Year tradition, depending on how you look at it, is throwing dishes at neighbor’s door. Strangely, this makes them happy instead of annoying them. The family with the tallest tower of broken plates, glasses, cups and other crockery is considered to be the luckiest person because it symbolizes their large amount of loyal friends.

    2. Talking to Spirits——Mexico

Talking to spirits is a part of Mexican belief. Mexicans strongly believe that they can communicate with the souls of their dead loved ones. New Year’s Eve is considered the best time to communicate with dead spirits to convey a message or ask for guidance. And this is not done at home on an individual basis but is a legal Mexican practice. Taos Inn, in New Mexico for example, offers 15 minutes session of spiritualism and meditation(默念) for $15. Not a bad price for some helpful guidance!

    3. Wearing Polka Dots ——Philippines

Imagine streets full of people wearing polka dots and dining room tables full of round shaped food and fruits on one single day of the year. This all actually happens in the Philippines on New Year’s Eve every year. Philippines believe that this will bring them prosperity by associating the round dots to coins and wealth.

    4. Burning Scarecrow(稻草人) Dummy——Ecuador

Ecuador has a unique custom of crafting scarecrows and then burning them at midnight. They adorn them and fill the scarecrows with newspapers and pieces of wood. As midnight approaches, everyone gathers outside their home and each family burns their own scarecrow. The tradition says that this destroys all the bad things that took place in the past 12 months. The scarecrow also scares away bad luck, which in turn, fills their new year with luck and happiness.

    5. Mistletoe(槲寄生) Leaves Are Placed Under Pillow to Find Husband——Ireland

The single women of Ireland wait desperately for New Year’s Eve because it is the night that can bring them the love of their lives. They place mistletoe leaves under their pillow hoping to catch their future husband. It is also believed in the Irish culture that this act will help them get rid of bad luck.

The world is a large and very different place. Yes, people of all nations may celebrate New Year’s much differently around the world, with different traditions, but there are a lot of general themes to be seen. We all want to start a new, fresh year with renewed enthusiasm and hope no matter what happened during the past year. We all want to be happier, find love, renew friendships increase our wealth and also hope for a little extra luck in the coming New Year.

1When New Year’s Day is coming, people always celebrate it in many ways EXCEPT __________.

    A. sharing the time with their lovers

    B. getting together with their families

    C. enjoying drinks with their friends

    D. setting the ball drop

2What can you learn when you are paying a visiting to Mexico during New Year’s Day?

    A. You’d better talk to your ancestors just at home secretly, or you’ll break the law.

    B. It’s New Year’s Day that Mexicans consider the best time to talk to spirits.

    C. It’s commonly believed that the dead have spirits and souls living around.

  • 23、Back before Shakespeare was born in 1564, theaters weren’t big business in England. Writers needed a royal or rich sponsor to support them if they wanted to make a living as a playwright, Permanent playhouses hadn’t existed since the Romans occupied Britain (43-410 CE), so actors wandered around from town to town hoping to find a paying audience. But all that changed in the decades following Shakespeare birth. London’s population started booming. All those people needed to be entertained in their spare me. Seeing the potential for permanent playhouses, investors started building new theaters.

These theaters were all competing for audiences, so they needed a constant Now of fresh material. People didn’t want to see the same play over and over. Writers were in demand to create stories that would fill seats, and some, like Shakespeare.

Competing theater companies had rival writers. Like rivals in most fields, these authors kept an eye on what their competitors were up to, so they could try to outdo them, sometimes by imitating or satirizing each other’s plays.

Shakespeare’s contemporaries weren’t nobodies. Ben Jonson actually dominated the scene back then with his political satires, which also got him in trouble with authorities who didn’t like his critical essays. And Christopher Marlowe, who historians say ended up influencing Shakespeare, was a big deal before Shakespeare got going.

Shakespeare could be pretty crafty when it came to his competitors, though. For instance, when Jonson’s satiric comedies were outshining Shakespeare’ romantic ones, Shakespeare borrowed from Jonson’s style and even got him to write for his company. Shakespeare chose collaboration over competition with other successful writers, too — such as John Fletcher, who took over as head playwright after Shakespeare left the business.

So why does Shakespeare get all the buzz and not these other writers? One simple distinction: Most of his plays were published.

Back in Shakespeare’s day, the theaters usually owned the plays. Most writers’ plays weren’t preserved with much care, much less published for the masses. Publishing scripts would just make it easier for a competing playhouse to rip off their material, and for the highly competitive players in the entertainment game, that just wasn’t good business. Most original manuscripts were eventually lost, destroyed, or discarded— including some of those written by Shakespeare.

Shakespeare wasn’t even the most prolific playwright in his day, but his name is now synonymous with Renaissance drama largely because his plays survived the centuries through publication while most others’ works didn’t. Some of his plays were published during his lifetime, and after his death in 1616, Shakespeare’s friends assembled The First Folio, a collection of 36 Shakespeare plays, 18 of which hadn’t been published previously — including All’s Well That Ends Well, Macbeth, As You Lite It, and Twelfth Night.

The First Folio is now considered one of the most influential books ever published in the English language. By preserving his legacy through its publication, Shakespeare’s pals made him a lasting literary star.

【1】Which question is NOT answered by the article?

A.Why were plays not widely published during Shakespeare’s lime?

B.What was assembled by a group of Shakespeare’s friend after his death?

C.Why did Shakespeare leave his company and the playwright business?

D.What did theaters do to stay competitive with their rival from other companies?

    A.Productive.

    B.Famed.

    C.Influential.

    D.Witty.

【3】What does the article mainly talk about?

A.To reason why Renaissance actors wandered to look for a paying audience

B.To explain how Shakespeare's legacy as the premier Renaissance playwright endured

C.To present how Shakespeare would sometimes play the role to help fill theater

D.To introduce why Ben Jonson chose to do political satires

【4】Suppose Jeremy wants to find out about Ben Jonson, he would find most of his information ________.

    A.in a biography of Shakespeare

  • 24、阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

If you’re making the film with other people, organize your cast and crew effectively. Make sure everybody knows their roles and what day and times they’re needed.

Give people specific jobs so they can become experts in their field. For example, a sound recordist listens to the sound through headphones as it’s being recorded, and holds an extra microphone if needed.

A camera operator frames the picture(取景), sets focus, checks the light and records the action. The editor “cuts” the picture together after it’s shot.

A producer is the contact point for the film. He or she makes sure crew and cast are there on time, talks to the press and organizes the budget.

A director has to make sure their vision is communicated. To do this everyone needs to be clear about what the director expects from each scene and each shot.

You may also need a make-up-artist, a choreographer, a driver, etc. However, you can quite easily make your first film on your own. Make a schedule that says which shots are to be taken where and when (this is called a shooting schedule) and when you’ve completed a take, cross it off the list. Remember that you may want to shoot “out of sequence”, e.g. shoot the last scene first, and the first last. Similarly if the film begins and ends by a tree in the park, it may make sense to film both scenes while you’re there.

If you’re making animation (动画片), have a space that you can control. You may need extra lights and you may need to leave work in progress. Make sure people living with you are aware what’s happening. Animation needs a lot of undisturbed concentration and patience. Keep at it and it’ll pay off. Aardman and Disney both started off at home experimenting with clay , pens and a camera.

【1】From the first two paragraphs we can learn that___________.

    A. every crew member is an expert in his field.

    B. careful preparations and arrangements are quite necessary.

    C. both the cast and crew must arrive at the same time every day.

    D. every person should have his equipment while working together.

【2】A director knows the purpose of each step of the work, but___________ .

    A. he needn’t tell others about that

    B. other members just follow his orders

    C. he must have it known and well understood by others

    D. others may have their own ideas and special ways of working

【3】To shoot a film, a shooting schedule must be fixed first ______________.

    A. but it may be crossed off if unnecessary

    B. but you needn’t work exactly on it

    C. and each step must be carried out according to it.

    D. and no one can change it once it is settled
