四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、

“Walk! Don’t run!” This is what students are usually told at school. After all, it’s dangerous to run or jump around the corridors(走廊). However, students in a British school are told to do the opposite. Their teachers encourage them to run in the corridors.

Why? Well, that’s because the corridors in the school have been built with special tiles called Pavegen tiles. When the students jump or run on the tiles, lots of electricity will be produced. In 12 months’ time, the tiles can produce enough electricity to fully charge 853 mobile phones or power an electric car to run 12 kilometers. It’s quite amazing, isn’t it? The students can now play freely in the corridors. While they are playing, they help to power the lights and the other electricity equipment in their classrooms.

The special tiles are really a wonderful invention. They can teach the students to be creative. It turns out that electricity can be produced in many different ways rather than only through traditional ones. Are there any other clean energy sources? That’s something for the students to think about.

Pavegen tiles were invented by Laurence Kemball-Cook. He used to study in the British school. Now, he is the CEO of his own company. His tiles have also been tested in many public places.

Laurence has also invented some other useful things, such as special dance floor. It can be used at music festivals. Dancers can charge their mobile phones while dancing on the special floor.

【1】According to the first two paragraphs, where are the special tiles used in the school?

    A.On the playground.

    B.At the gate.

    C.In the corridors.

    D.In the classrooms.

    A.The owner of a company.

    B.A seller of mobile phones.

C.The headmaster of a British school.

    D.A producer of electric cars.

【5】The invention of the special tiles can ________.

    A.make the corridors more beautiful

B.reduce the risk of having accidents

C.develop the students’ imagination of inventing something new

D.help the students learn more about the traditional energy sources

  • 25、Western people celebrate Halloween on 31 October. Here are some things about it.

    Pumpkin (南瓜) lanterns

These are pumpkins with a nose, two eyes and a mouth. There is a candle in the empty pumpkin and the light creates a scary face. They are easier to cut and you can buy them in supermarkets. People use pumpkin lanterns to decorate their houses on Halloween.

    Dressing up

People of all ages dress up on Halloween. They wear scary clothes. You can buy the clothes from a shop or you can make your own clothes at home. It’s easy to make ghost clothes from an old white shirt or wear black clothes to look like a witch (女巫).

    Trick or treat

Children dress up and visit the houses in their neighbourhood to play “trick or treat”. The neighbour gives them sweets as a “treat”. If there is no treat, the children play a trick. Some people think that playing tricks is unkind but luckily there is nearly always a treat!

  • 26、More than 1,000 different kinds of pieces of plastic, including 115 cups, 25 bags, four bottles and two pairs of shoes, have been found inside a dead whale in Indonesia, according to local officials.

When the whale was found on the island, it was already decomposing when animal doctors arrived. So they were unable to be sure if the plastic caused its death, said Lukas, the leader of the World Wildlife Fund in Indonesia. The plastic weighed about 6 kilograms, or 13 pounds, he said.

But pictures of the dead whale caused a warm discussion. The people in the country have started to realize that it is because of using too much plastic. So has the government. Indonesia, a nation of about 260 million people was the world’s second-biggest producer of plastic waste in 2015, behind only China.

If the whales eat too much plastic, they will have a wrong feeling. They think that they are full. And that will lead them to eat less food that provides all the good things they need, said Nicholas who is the leader of the Ocean Conservancy. Moreover, eating too much plastic can make them reduce their weight, their energy and their swimming speed. As a result, whales are easier to be hurt by the sharks and many other dangerous animals in the sea.

More than 800 kinds of animals in the sea are affected by about 8.8 million tons of plastic which is thrown away freely in the ocean each year. Plastic can also stop the animals moving freely and sometimes they will cause them to die because they have to be under the water for too long. Some plastic can make a small hole in their stomachs after they eat it.

【1】What does the underlined word “decomposing” in Paragraph 2 mean?

    A.腐烂

    B.吸收

    C.凝固

    D.飘散

【2】Which country produced most plastic waste in 2015?

    A.India.

    B.China.

    C.Indonesia.

    D.America.

【3】What happens to the whales after eating too much plastic?

    A.They will swim faster.

    B.They will be more energetic.

C.They will eat less healthy food.

D.They will be bigger and stronger.

【4】According to the passage, we can infer that ________.

A.eating too much plastic makes whales feel much hungrier

B.people in Indonesia paid no attention to the death of the whale

C.the animal doctors are sure plastic didn’t cause the whale to die
