  • 1、阅读下面的短文,将划线部分译成英文或中文。

Fu Cong, known as the “greatest modern pianist” and “piano poet”, died of COVID-19 at a hospital in London last year. You may not be familiar with him, but you might have read the book Fu Lei’s Family Letters (《傅雷家书》) written by his father Fu Lei, a famous translator and writer, which influenced a generation of Chinese readers.

Fu Cong was born on March 10th, 1934, in Shanghai. A lover of classical music from a young age. 1.傅聪7岁的时候开始上钢琴课。But the chaos (混乱) of wartime China prevented him from receiving a systematic musical education. 2. Then in his teens, Fu Cong moved with his family to Yunnan, where he experienced an unusual period.

Between 1954 and 1966, Fu Cong spent a lot of time away from home to train as a piano player. 3.结果,写信成为了傅雷与儿子交流的常见方式。The letters fully showed Fu Lei’s family tradition and value. To Fu Lei, education is not only a family matter, but also something with great social value.

Fu Lei also advised his son to read famous Chinese texts. He told Fu Cong to fully understand their meanings and connect ideas with feelings in order to become a better person. Fu Lei thinks learning to be a good person comes before any academic (学术) training. On 27th December 1954, Fu Lei wrote, “Everyone should be a good person before becoming an expert in any field. Otherwise, 4. that person will not get much academic achievement, no matter how knowledgeable he is.”

    5. Full of advice, encouragement, and a father’s love, Fu Lei’s Family Letters became a best seller in China. It has been sold more than one million copies in China and has been translated into Japanese and Korean. It helps many young students understand how they should live their lives.

It flew and flew. Suddenly it saw a spider climbing up a wall. The spider fell off the wall halfway. But it kept climbing again and fell off again. Even so, the spider didn’t give up. “What is your dream?”

    “To produce sweet fruit.”

  • 26、A rooftop garden is a garden on the roof (屋顶). Putting a garden on your roof is a nice way to turn an empty (空旷的) space into something pretty and relaxing.

Rooftop gardens are not a new idea. About 2,600 years ago, people in Ancient Mesopotamia planted rooftop gardens. There were similar gardens in Ancient Rome and Ancient Egypt. They had these gardens for a very important reason. The enemy army usually tried to destroy (摧毁) the city’s food, so the people in the city kept their gardens on top of their walls. That way they could go on growing food.

Today, rooftop gardens are still beneficial. If there are a lot of plants on a rooftop, they make the whole building cooler. As a result, people in the building use their air conditioning less, so they can use less electricity. One study said that if every roof in Tokyo had a garden, the city would save more than a million dollars a day on electricity.

Rooftop gardening is harder than normal gardening. Here are a few tips. First of all, build a fence (篱笆) around your garden if you don’t want the wind to blow plants off your roof! Also, remember that rooftop gardens get more sun. If you have a plant that shouldn’t get too much sun, remember to put it in cool places sometimes.

【1】Ancient people had rooftop gardens to ________.

    A.grow food

    B.save money

    C.make the city more beautiful

    D.live an interesting life

A.A fence can stop the plants from blowing off.

B.Rooftop gardens are not popular any more now.

C.People in Ancient Tokyo planted rooftop gardens.

D.You needn’t prepare a lot before you start a rooftop garden.

    A.Today’s Gardens

    B.Rooftop Gardens

    C.Ancient Gardens

    D.Gardens in the City

  • 27、Last week Lu visited Edinburgh. He stayed with my grandmother. He said it was a strange visit. “I don’t understand, but I frightened your grandmother a lot. When I arrived, I gave her a purse from Suzhou. She looked in it and asked me to take it back. Then I saw a red spider on the table so I killed it for her and she seemed very unhappy. Do English people like spiders?”

“Later we went shopping. Someone was painting a shop front, so there was a ladder (梯子). Grandmother stopped me walking under it and said I must walk around it. I liked the shops and bought a smart umbrella for my father and some new shoes for myself. When we got back, I put the shoes on the table and opened the umbrella to wonder if it was all right. Your grandmother came in and screamed!”

“Then I broke a small mirror in the bathroom. Your grandmother’s face went white. I felt very sorry. When I left I gave your grandmother some flowers. She counted and there were 13. She didn’t like it. I think she was happy I was going.”

I explained to Lu, “My grandmother follows the old customs in western countries. You must not give someone an empty purse or they will have no money. You must not kill a “wealth spider” or the same will happen. It is very unlucky to walk under a ladder and to put new shoes on the table. An open umbrella in a house means someone will die. Breaking a mirror brings seven years’ bad luck, and 13 is also a very unlucky number. You were really making my grandmother very afraid.”

【1】Why did grandmother ask Lu to take back the purse?

A.Because a purse brings bad luck.

B.Because it means someone will die.

C.Because grandmother doesn’t like the purse.

D.Because it means grandmother will have no money.

【2】Where does the grandmother come from?

    A.China.

    B.Suzhou.

    C.The United Kingdom.

    D.Europe.

【3】“Spider” in England has the same meaning as ________.

    A.money

    B.good luck

    C.death

    D.poor

【4】What can you infer from the passage?

A.Lu tried to make the grandmother unhappy on purpose.

B.Lu had learned little about cultural differences before he went to Edinburgh.

C.The grandmother was really happy because Lu was leaving soon.

D.Lu enjoyed his visit in Edinburgh although he made some careless mistakes.
