25、 Choose the best answer(根据短文内容,选择最恰当的答案)
Wales is a country that is part of Britain. Like all countries, it has a national flag. The flag is
made of two thick lines –green below, white on top. On its own that would like very boring, but the
flag of Wales is rather memorable. It also has a drawing of a fierce, blood-red dragon with wings, a
raised front leg and arrows for its tail and tongue.
Visit Wales and you will see this dragon flying proud above public and private buildings. You
will spot it at the top of Welsh government letters, and even on bar signs. Thousands of Welsh
business contain the words“Red Dragon”in their names –from small cafes to huge shopping malls. Much more interesting, however, is the story behind the dragon. It comes from the country’s old and colorful folk tales.
The Mabinogion is one of the oldest pieces of literature in Britain. In one of its stories, there is a fierce struggle between a red dragon and a white dragon. The cries of pain from the red dragon are a terrible thing. They are so horrific that they cause animals to die when they hear them. King Klud of Britain catches the two dragons, then he transports them to Snowdonia, the site of a tall mountain in Wales.
In another story, King Vortigern tries to build a castle on the site where the dragons are buried(埋葬), but the building is destroyed each night. It is a mystery to the King, who doesn’t know the dragons are there. A young magician tells the King about the dragons, who then sets them free. The two dragons continue their fight until the red dragon wins. This story made the red dragon an obvious choice for a national symbol.
There are other symbols of Wales, but it is the red dragon that means the most to Welsh people –and has the best stories.
【1】We cannot see ______ in Wale’s national flag.
A. a horrible dragon B. three arrows
C. a thick white line D. a thick green line

D. the old colorful folk tales make the red dragon a national symbol
【4】_______ is the superhero in the tales.
A. the young magician B. King Liud
C. King Vortigern D. Snowdonia
【5】From the tales, we can know that _______.
A. the dragons destroy the castle because they didn’t like the castle
B. the dragons fight against each other underground.
C. the red dragon is the winner in different tales
D. animals die when they hear the two dragons
【6】The best title for this story is ________.
A. Wales’ National flag B. Wales’ colorful folk tales
C. The symbols of Whales D. Wale’s red dragon
26、Our school’s science festival just ended a few days ago. What interested me most was the time we spent making a car. It was made out of corrugated cardboard (瓦楞纸板), but could still hold a person, as well as move.
We were excited about this idea, but we found it hard to make the car. It seemed impossible for a cardboard car to carry someone. Our physics teacher showed us a video. There was some corrugated cardboard shaped like a “V” or “W” in the video. It could hold more weight. This gave us the idea to make the car after getting the proper materials (材料).
Because there was not much time left for us, we had to finish it as quickly as possible. We talked about how the car should be made and how to test it. I was glad that we were able to work closely with each other. Everyone saw the work as an interesting way to relax. When the car was finally finished, we all wore a smile on our faces and found that all our work had been worth it, even after spending whole afternoons working on it.
We joined the competition after we finished the car. Though we didn’t win any prizes, we found something meaning than success. We learned new things about physics and learned how to get along with each other.
【1】What was the car made out of ?
A.Thick stone.
B.Special glass.
C.Strong wood.
D.Corrugated cardboard.
【2】The writer’s ________ teacher showed them a video to help them make the car.

B.work closely with each other
C.compete with each other

27、Paper was not made in southern Europe until the year 1100. Though Scandinavia (斯堪的纳维亚) now makes a great deal of the world’s paper, it had not begun to make it until 1500. It was a German named Schaefief who found out that one could make paper from wood. After that, forest countries, such as Canada, Sweden, Norway, Finland and the United States, became important in paper-making. Today in Finland, for example, no industry is bigger than the forest industry. And the paper industry is the most important part of it.

We have had paper cups, plates and dishes for a long time. But now we hear that chairs, tables and even beds can be made of paper. The newest thing made of paper in the world may be a paper house. It is not a small house for children to play in, but a real, big house for people to live in. It is not expensive.
