  • 25、   You must have heard and watched the famous TV show Sisters Who Brave Winds and Waves. Unlike other youth idol talent shows, this TV show invited thirty female artists who were born before 1990 to live together and compete with each other as well. These years, they are not as popular as those youth idols. However, since it was shown on the screen, it has won hundreds of millions of fans, flowers and compliments (赞美). But there are also negative (负面的) attention, and those brave sisters are ready to face whatever it comes ahead the roads.

There are hundreds of TV shows in China nowadays, and do you know why it is much more popular than the others? As for me, I do like some of those brave sisters. . Ning Jing was born in 1972, and many artists or actresses in her age normally have been out of public attention. But she didn’t think so, and she worked so hard to make her dream come true. She has been one of the Final Seven in the end. Another sister Zhang Yuqi, a thirty-three-year-old actress is also among the Final Seven. In my heart, she is always one of the best sisters. This beautiful direct and warmhearted sister is always ready and brave enough to face the challenges and negative attention.

On talking about the great performances about this TV show, there are too many to talk about, such as Da Wan Kuan Mian, Gentlewoman, Running to yow with all I have … Just like the lyrics (歌词)in the song Da Wan Kan Mian, Don't say no to yourself easily, you have your world, no one can define you, happiness is the true meaning.” I think they are the voice of those sisters' hearts.

For people who are over thirty or even forty years old, sometimes there will be no more dreams. However, Sisters Who Brave Winds and Waves tells us whenever it is, we can always be brave and ride winds and waves to be the best of ourselves.

1A female artist who is ________ years old will NOT be invited in the show.

    A.twenty-one B.thirty-two C.thirty-four D.thirty-three

2Which of the following can be put in the in Paragraph 2?

A.They have always been the most popular around the country.

B.I believe the following examples may help you find the reasons.

    C.All of them are warm-hearted and hard-working.

D.Ning Jing and Zhang Yuqi are not in the Final Seven.

3The underlined lyrics in paragraph 3 show us a(n) ________ attitude (态度) to life.

    A.sad B.active C.serious D.negative

4The best title of the passage may be ________.

A.To Be Brave to Face the Challenges B.To Be a Perfect Female Artist

C.Our Idols—Ning Jing and Zhang Yuqi D.Sisters To Be the Best of Ourselves

  • 26、Creativity is the key to a brighter future, say education and business experts. Here is how schools and parents can encourage this important skill in children.

If Dick Drew had listened to his boss in 1925, we might not have an important product: a new type of tape. Drew worked for the Minnesota Mining Company. At work he developed a kind of material strong enough to hold things together. But his boss told him not to think more about the idea. Finally, using his own time, Drew improved the tape, which now is used everywhere by many people. And his old company learned from its mistake. Now it encourages people to spend 15 percent of their work time just thinking and developing new ideas.

Creativity is not something one is just born with, nor is it necessarily a character of high intelligence (智慧). Just because a person is highly intelligent does not mean that he uses it creatively. Creativity is the matter of using the resources one has to produce new ideas that are good for something.

Unluckily, schools have not tried to encourage creativity. With strong attention to test results and the development of reading, writing and mathematical skills, many educators give up creativity for correct answers. The result is that children can give back information but can’t recognize ways to use it in new situations. They may know the rules correctly, but they are unable to use them to work out practical problems.

It is important to give children choices. From the earliest age, children should be allowed to make decisions and understand their results. Even if it’s choosing between two kinds of food for lunch, decision-making helps thinking skills. As children grow older, parents should let their children decide how to use their time or spend their money, but not help them too much if they make the wrong decision. The child may have a hard time, but that is all right. This is because the most important character of creative people is a very strong desire (欲望) to find a way out of trouble.

【1】What did the company where Dick Drew work learn from its mistake?

    A. They encouraged people to work a longer time.

    B. They discouraged (阻碍) people to think freely.

    C. They asked people to spend all their work time developing new ideas.

    D. They encouraged people to spend some of their work time thinking and improving new ideas.

【2】Why don’t schools try to encourage creativity?

    A. They don’t understand the importance of education.

    B. They don’t want their students to make mistakes.

    C. They pay too much attention to examination marks and language skills.

    D. They think it more important to remember some information.

【3】What should the parents do when their children decide how to spend their money?

    A. Try to help them as much as possible

    B. Take no notice of whatever they do

    C. Help them if their decision is wrong, but not too much

    D. Leave them as they are

【4】The best title for the passage can be ______.

    A. The importance of creativity

    B. What is creativity?

    C. The history of creativity

    D. How can we develop creativity?

  • 27、   Over the last few centuries, there have been many changes in our lives.

To start with, people were not able to travel such a long distance in such a short time in the past. Planes were not very popular at that time because they used to be a very expensive way to travel. Nowadays, more and more people can travel by plane and we can take many other fast and comfortable vehicles, such as cars and high-speed trains.

Secondly, in the past, people had to work much harder because they did not have the tools we have today. Today, most of the difficult and dangerous work is done by computers and machines.

Thirdly, in the past, the living conditions were not as good as they are now. There were no bathrooms or running water in many houses, and many people could not buy things like refrigerators, TV sets or washing machines. Now, most families have several of these things.

Lastly, communications have become much easier than before. In the past, we kept in touch with others by writing letters or sending faxes, but now we have many other ways to choose from, such as making a phone call, sending e-mails or messages and chatting online. Moreover, we can even see the people whom we are making a phone call with through mobile phones, and we can see each other while chatting online. The most surprising thing is that we can make a phone call with the astronauts and see them when they are in space. What a magical thing!
