四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、I joined a fitness club five months ago. Every morning, there was a coach who worked out at the same time as I did. He did his daily exercise with such a quiet determination (决心) that he made it all look effortless (毫不费力) although I knew all too well how hard he was working.

A couple of weeks ago, I was watching him do chin-ups (引体向上). I had never tried doing chin-ups before, but it looked so easy, so I asked him if I could try one. He quickly stepped aside (退到一边) and encouraged me to try. I pulled myself up without thinking...once...then twice. I stopped because that was all I had in me, but he stepped up behind me and pushed me up for two more. It felt so good and I felt strong.

The next few days when I finished my workout, I would ask him to watch me do chin-ups. However, each time I could only do two. I was quite upset, but he told me that when he trained firefighters, men were required to do 5 chin-ups, and women were required to do one or two. Most people couldn’t do them at all, so he was amazed at what I could do. He further told me that if I practice everyday, I would be doing five or six in no time.

Because he told me I could, I didn’t realize how difficult it was. I was encouraged to try and I didn’t doubt (怀疑) it for a moment. I truly thank him for letting me believe that for me success is not only a possibility, but also a realistic goal that I can achieve (实现).

    B.“You can do it!”

    D.“I’m afraid you can’t.”

【3】The coach let the writer believe she can do well in chin-ups by ________.

    A.doing chin-ups on her own

    B.pushing her up

  • 26、Everyone knows that Spain is home to some crazy festivals. From throwing tomatoes at one another to burning dolls made of cardboard, wood or plastic, the Spanish festivals are quite amazing. You may not have heard of the Haro Wine Festival, but it is full of fun, too.

The wine festival is actually a battle of the wine, held from the 28th to the 30th of June each year in Haro, one of the most important wine-producing towns in northern Spain. The Haro Wine Festival was only announced as a festival of both national and touristic interest in 1965, but its origins(起源) could go back much further. In fact, it was way back in the early part of the 13th century. At that time, Haro had a land dispute(纠纷) with its neighbor in a nearby region. One day, people from the two sides started throwing wine at each other to solve the dispute. That day the tradition started and got the name “War of Wine”.

During the festival, the wine fight begins early in the morning on the outskirts(郊区)of Haro. People are armed with buckets, water guns and anything that can be filled with red wine, and they pour the wine onto their friends or strangers. Everyone is supposed to wear a white shirt during the “fight”, because it is easily stained(染色). The “fight” will last for several hours until everyone’s shirt becomes bright purple. They will then return to the center of the town to enjoy delicious food and drinks.

Each year, thousands of people, locals and visitors, celebrate the festival. Maybe you can become a member of them one day. The only problem is that you will smell like wine for days after the “fight”!

【1】Which of the following is TRUE about Haro?

    A.hot, short and worldwide

    B.wet, interesting and crazy

    C.exciting, new and important

    D.traditional, quiet and amazing

【3】What’s the main idea of the passage?

A.To help sell wine in Haro.

B.To encourage people to take a trip to Haro.

C.To show there are a lot of fun festivals in Spain.

D.To let people learn more about the Haro Wine Festival.

【4】Which is the best way to divide the passage?

    A.①/②③/④

    B.①/②/③/④

    C.①②/③④

    D.①②③/④

  • 27、People have long thought that AI will soon enough take jobs with repetitive labour (重复性劳动), such as truck drivers, cleaners, but cannot copy the creativity only human brains can produce. Truck drivers, retail cashiers and warehouse workers would all lose their jobs to robots, they said, while workers in creative fields like art, entertainment and media would be safe.

Well, an unexpected thing has happened recently: AI has entered the creative class.

In the past few months, AI-based image generators (图像生成器) like DALL-E 2, Midjourney and Stable Diffusion have made it possible for anyone to create unique, hyper-realistic (超现实) images just by typing a few words into a text box. These apps, though new, are already surprisingly popular. DALL-E 2, has more than 1.5 million users generating more than two million images every day, while Midjourney has more than three million members.

It’s still too early to tell whether this new wave of apps will end up costing artists and illustrators their jobs. What seems clear, though, is that these tools are already being put to use in creative industries.

A few months ago, Sarah Drummond, a designer in London started using AI-generated images. Instead of spending hours creating sketches by hand, Ms. Drummond, now types what she wants into DALL-E 2 or Midjourney.

“All of a sudden, I can take like 15 seconds and go, ‘Woman at restaurant, black-and-white sketch,’ and get something back that’s really professional (专业的),” she said.

Ms. Drummond added that AI image generators had limitations. They aren’t good at more difficult sketches, for example, or creating different images with the same character. And like the other creative artists, she said she didn’t think AI designers would replace human illustrators completely.

“Would I use it for final output? No. I would hire someone to fully make what we wanted to realize,” she said. “But the throwaway work that you do when you’re any kind of designer, whether it’s visual, architectural, urban planner—you’re sketching, sketching sketching. And so this is a sketch tool.”

【1】According to the passage, AI based image generators can ________.

A.take the place of truck drivers

    B.be more creative than humans

C.follow instructions to create certain images

D.create more than two million texts every day

【2】What does Ms. Drummond think of AI image generators?

A.They are more convenient for creating basic drawings.

B.They will be widely used and end up costing artists their jobs.

C.They are sketch tools to realize what you want for final output.

D.They are good at creating different images with the same character.

【3】What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?

A.To compare different AI image generators.

B.To explain how AI image generators work.

C.To encourage people to use AI for art work.

D.To show how AI is affecting creative fields.
