Four years ago when I was a boy of 11, I got into the biggest trouble as a kid. It was a Saturday morning. Both my parents were out, leaving me and my 10—month—old sister became alone. Anyway, my sister was still asleep in her room. In fact I had the house to myself. I decided to do some drawing. Soon I gave up. Nothing was on TV, so I felt bored and touched the candles on the shelp…I had an idea! What would happen if I see fire to some kitchen paper? Well, of course it went on fire, but it wasn’t the tiny flame(火箭)I’d expected, and I couldn’t blow it out. I threw it on the floor, and then luckily got my dad’s boots(靴子)and stamped it out.

I thought I was safe until there was a HCGE hole in my room. When my mum came home later, she smelt the smoke immediately. She dropped the shopping bag, luckily for me, over the hole. I thought this meant she would never see it. However, after running round the house checking for a fire, she of course picked up the bag and saw the hole. Next I was grounded(关禁闭)and in trouble for months. Even though, the hole was still there, reminding me of what I did.

  • 25、   “Homestay is a form of study abroad program. It allows the visitor to rent a room from a local family to better understand the local lifestyle. It also helps to improve the visitor’s language ability,” said a teacher during a school meeting last term, “Students who wish to learn more about foreign cultures or to get foreign experiences should join this kind of holiday. I am sure you won’t be disappointed(失望的).”

After this special meeting, I always thought about this kind of holiday. Last month, I had a chance at last to go on such a holiday with some of my schoolmates and we went to London, a place where I had wanted to go since years ago.

As we were still young, we had a group leader who planned things for us and looked after us. After we got to London, we went to stay with different families. I was lucky that my host family(寄宿家庭) was a white couple who had a daughter about my age. They treated me as a daughter of their family during my stay there. They were interested in me and I learnt a lot of things from them, too.

The holiday was filled with activities every day. After breakfast, a local teacher would come to take us in his car. Then we would have classes or go on a sight-seeing trip to different places of interest like the Big Ben, the London Bridge, and the Buckingham Palace. We would go back to our own homes after the activities.

The holiday was a valuable experience for me. I enjoyed every minute of it. Yet, time really flew fast. Three weeks later, we had to leave “home” for Hong Kong.

  • 26、The Silk Road is the name of different roads that long ago connected Europe, Africa And Asia. People reached these different places along these roads. Scientists believe people began to travel the Silk Road about 3,000 years ago. By the time the Chinese silk trade became important in the world, the Silk Road had covered almost 6,500 kilometers. It spread from Rome to China, which is from the West to the Far East.

Traders traveling along the Silk Road carried silk of course. They also carried and traded spices(香料), cloth, valuable stones and gold.

There is a famous old story along the old road. It is said that Roman soldiers traveled through central Asia. They started to live somewhere near the ancient Chinese village of Liqian. Some of these Romans married local Chinese women and the story of blue-eyed villages of China was started.

During its busiest period, the Silk Road allowed people from many different cultures and countries to meet each other and mix. The Silk Road allowed the sharing of valuable goods and new ideas. These included people and trading goods from the Mediterranean, Persian, Magyar, American, Britain, Indian and Chinese areas. All these people traveled the Silk Road, and they shared goods, stories, languages and cultures.

In modern times, the old Silk Road routes(路线)are still used, but now they are crossed by trains instead of camels and horses. There is even a Silk Route Museum in Jiuquan in China. It has over 35,000 objects from all along the Silk Road. In this way, China protects the history of many countries and peoples.

  • 27、When you cough or sneeze(打喷嚏), you’d better turn your head away from others and cover your mouth with the full part of your hand. And then, you should say, “Excuse me.”

This seems so simple, but it is surprising how many kids have never been told to do this. Actually, I notice adults all the time who cough and sneeze in public without placing a hand over the mouth. One important thing I point out to the kids is that after they sneeze or cough on their hands, they should wash their hands as soon as possible. If not, they will be passing those germs along to everything and everyone they touch.

If you come to a door and someone is following you, hold the door. If the door opens by pulling, pull it open, stand to the side, and allow the other person to pass through first, then you can walk through. If the door opens by pushing, hold the door after you pass through.

After a few weeks of seeing kids try to get through doors in the school and watching them enter restaurants as the door hit other people, I knew I had to discuss with my students about the problem. Teaching them small acts of kindness, such as letting someone else go through a door first as they hold it open, may seem unimportant, but it can help students realize how to be polite and thank others. Once they’ve been told, they’re halfway there.

When we have to go up moving stairs, we will stand to the right. That will give others who are in a hurry a choice of walking up the left-hand side of the moving stairs. When we are going to enter a lift, the underground, or a doorway, we will wait for others to exit before we enter.

    根据短文内容选择最佳答案

    A.close the door

    B.stand to the side

    C.hold the door

A.Because it’s dangerous to stand to the left.

B.Because it’s a traffic rule which we must follow.

C.Because we should make way for people in a hurry.

【4】From the passage we can know the writer is a ________.

五、短文填空 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 28、 Blame(责备) is one of the biggest problems that we meet in everyday life. 【1】 And when that doesn't happen, we blame other people, places or events that we think are the causes of our unhappiness.

Everything we feel comes from within us. 【2

If we create unhappiness for ourselves, the world will show us that unhappiness, but if we create joy, peace, and love for ourselves, this is what we will get back.

Can blame solve any problems? 3   When people did something hat makes us angry, afraid or hurt, we are doing nothing more than showing them the anger we feel inside.

We have choices about things that make us unhappy. We sometimes prefer to take the easier choices, the ones that keep us in our comfort zone(地带). 4 Sometimes we just have to go beyond our comfort zone, which may mean facing something we don't like. Perhaps we feel like a victim(受害) and don't stand up for ourselves or speak up when we feel that people don't respect us. Maybe we are afraid of a situation, so we run away from it, instead of facing it with inner strength.

Whatever the problem is, we have a choice every day to face it with blame, fear, anger, guilt(内疚), or with love, kindness, peace. 5   Don't blame. Enjoy your day.

    根据材料内容,从下面五个选项中选出能填入文中空缺处的最佳选项,使短文意思通顺,内容完整,并将答题卡相应选项涂黑。

    A.Simply, it can't.

    B. We create it and we live through it

    C. How will you walk into your day?

D.We seem to know that the world is there to make us happy.

    E. But how comfortable is it really when we are annoyed by someone else?
