24、 Mike Myers is a teacher at Chauncey Rose High School in Terre Haute, Indiana. Last year, he taught his students about, the world's rain forests. They learned that rain forests are important because the plants and animals' of the rain forests give us food, wood, and medicine.
Destruction (破坏) of the world's rain forests is a serious problem. Unluckily, rain forests are disappearing at a rate of 80 acres per minute! As part of a class project, Myers' students bought three acres of rain forest in Central America. They paid $25 per acre. The students hope that the land they bought will be protected and not destroyed. The students became so interested in rain forests that they decided to get a closer look at a real rain forest.
So last June, Myers and four of his students took a boat ride down a river. They saw alligators (短吻鳄) and crocodiles. In the middle of the week, a guide took Myers and his students into the rain forest. "The monkeys were not happy that we were in their forest. They broke small branches off the trees and threw them at us," one of the students said, "It was a great learning experience for all of us," said Myers.
Each student chose something specific about Costa Rica to study involving the plants, animals, food, and culture. During the last few days the group had time to do fun activities. They went white water rafting (激流泛舟) and horseback riding, and visited Costa Rica's active volcano.

26、When you were a little child, your parents made decisions about everything for you because you weren’t old enough to take care of yourself and make careful decisions. Finally, however, you grow up and become a teenager. You begin to have your own thoughts and opinions about life.
As you change and grow into this new person who makes your own decisions, your parents may have a difficult time adjusting (调整) themselves to the new you—they only know you as a child.
In most families, this adjustment can cause lots of arguments between teens and parents. You want to cover your walls with posters, but your parents don’t understand why you don’t like your wallpaper anymore. Then you feel your parents don’t respect you and don’t allow you to do what you like, and your parents get angry because they disagree with your decisions. And some other things like the type of friends you have can cause even bigger arguments, because your parents will always be ready to protect you and keep you safe, no matter how old you are.
However, the good news is that there will be fewer arguments as your parents realize that you have grown up and should have your own ideas. Before you get on very well with each other again, communication between you and your parents is very important.

Why do we love sugar so much?
Many scientists believe our love of sugar may actually be hard to stop. When we eat or drink sugary foods, the sugar enters our blood and makes us feel good. Then the good feeling goes away, leaving us wanting more. All tasty foods do this, but sugar has a very strong effect. 【1】 Doctors recommend we all cut down on it.
“Every time I study an illness and try to find out the first cause, I find my way back to sugar,” says scientist Richard Johnson. One-third of adults worldwide have high blood pressure, and up to 347 million have diseases. 【2】
Our bodies are suitable to live on very little sugar. Early humans often had very little food, so their bodies learned to be very good at storing sugar as fat. 【3】 But today, most people have more than enough. So the thing we needed before may now be killing us.
【4】 We need to eat less sugar. The trouble is, in today’s world, it’s difficult to avoid. From breakfast to dinner, our foods are increasingly filled with it.
【5】 Many schools are replacing sugary desserts with fruit. Other schools are growing their own food in gardens, or encourage students to take more exercise.
A.So what is the good way to solve it?
B.It is believed that sugar is one of the causes.
C.But there are those who are fighting back against sugar.
D.In this way, it is in fact something harmful to our health.
E.In this way, they had energy stored for when there was no food.
