四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Do you often listen to music at loud volumes (音量)? You should know that this habit is bad for your hearing. Over 1 billion young people are at risk of hearing loss ,because of listening to loud noise for long periods of time. Listening to music or watching a TV show at loud volumes can harm your hearing.

The United Nations has standards for safe listening. It is not safe to listen to sounds that are louder than 85 dB (分贝) for eight hours or 100 dB for 15 minutes. The sound of a busy road is about 85 dB and the sound of a rock concert can be about 100 dB.

Loud noise is harmful to the inner ear. Most of us are born with about 16,000 hair cells (听毛细胞) in our inner ears. These cells notice sounds. However, listening to loud noise for a long time can make these cells work too hard and cause some of them to die. This is what causes hearing loss. Once this happens, it's hard to get your hearing back.

Some people might think that their music isn't all that loud. But this can depend on where you are. For example, if you are in a noisy place like the subway, you might turn up your music too loud without realizing it. Later, when you listen to it at the same volume in a quiet place, you might feel uncomfortable

The "safe level" for most sound is below 80 dB for up to 40 hours a week. A level of 80 dB is about equal to (相当于) the noise of a subway.

Here is some advice on safe listening. Over-the-ear headphones  (头戴式耳机) are better than in-ear ones. They do a better job of stopping outside noise, so you can listen at a lower volume. Don't listen to loud music on your headphones for a long time. Follow the 60:60 rule: listen to music at 60 percent of your headphones' maximum volume for no more than 60 minutes a day.

    根据短文内容, 判断下列句子正误。正确的用“A”表示, 不正确的用“B”表示。

1It is safe to listen to sounds that are louder than 100 dB for 15 minutes

2Listening to loud noise for a long time can cause some hair cells in the inner ear to die.

3From the fourth paragraph, we know people don't always realize how loud their music is.

4In-ear headphones are better than over-the-ear ones because they can stop more outside noise.

  • 25、When watching sports events, we often notice athletes wearing earphones on while preparing in the locker room or entering the stadium. They keep their eyes shut, and gently nod along the beats. It seems the music is giving them power and cheering them up for the competition. We sometimes do the same. You might have a list of favorite songs for your morning exercises. But is there any science behind such practices?

According to a recent research, it turns out there is.   Music actually does make us feel powerful, but not all songs have the same effect.

The research was led by Dennis Hsu of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwester University in the US. His team had people listen to 31 songs of different types. The listeners felt powerful after listening to some songs, such as Queen’s We Will Rock You and 2 Unlimited Get Ready for This.

Researchers also found that high-power music made people want to take control in social events and come first in competition. That matters a lot in sports. “It’s commonly said that sports are 90 percent mental and only 10 percent physical,” The Huffington Post reported.

Great athletes know this idea well. NBA player Kobe Bryant, for example, often puts on big headphones and even falls into deep thought to boost his game and reduce his anxiety.

As for the reason for music’s magical power, Hsu’s team came up with one possible explanation: when people hear music that expresses a sense of power, they mimic(模拟) these feelings in their mind.

When choosing music, we also need to look at the type of music, according to researchers.

In previous research by the Music in Exercise and Sports Group at Brunei University in London, they found that pop was perfect for slower, more repetitive-type tasks. If you’re warming up or cooling down after exercises, pop songs are the correct choice.

Dance music was found to be best suitable to strength and weight training because it’s “fast and rhythmical(有节奏感的).”

During high-intensity(高强度的)workouts, though, you’d better not listen to rock. Its different changes in tempo(节拍)can affect your rhythm.

【1】What is the main purpose of the first paragraph?   ________

A.To introduce favorite songs for morning exercises.

B.To lead in the topic that music matters in sports.

C.To give an example of athletes’daily life.

D.To explain how to choose music.

【2】According to the passage, Dennis Hsu probably agrees that   ________.

A.listening to music always makes athletes relaxed

B.powerful music can make people produce similar feelings in their mind

C.the result of a game is mainly affected by the physical condition of the players

D.most athletes still don’t know the effects of high-power music on their performance

【3】The underlined word “boost” in Paragraph 5 probably means ________.

    A.control

    B.lose

    C.continue

    D.improve

【4】What can we learn from the passage?   ________

A.Pop music is a reasonable choice for high-intensity workouts.

B.Rock music helps people keep their rhythms when exercising.

C.People are advised to listen to pop music before and after exercise.

D.People should dance to music while doing strength and weight training.

Star Wars fans would be familiar (熟悉的) with the good relationship between humans and robots in the movies. In the movie Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lando Calrissian risked his life to help his partner, a female robot L3-37. In real life, a humanoid robot (仿真机器人), Sophia, has been given citizenship (公民身份) in Saudi Arabia recently. Here comes the problem: should robots be seen as similar humans? As for me, I believe it is necessary to consider giving robots certain rights that humans enjoy.

② Experts have argued that since robots have had human-like qualities, it is time to consider if they should have rights just as humans. Sophia has a human-like face and uses artificial intelligence (人工智能) to reply to speech and express feelings. For such a lifelike being that is possibly able to express feelings, isn’t it worth getting the right to be loved and respected?

③ Robots should also be given protection as harming a robot may be similar to harming humans. Since people like to depend on social robots, it becomes possible for companies to control the hardware (硬件) and software to develop this attachment (依附). There is a danger that data (数据) which is stored in the robot could be uploaded to the cloud. This may increase the information risk. So it is clear that robots should be protected, just as humans.

④ An even more important reason to give human rights to the robots is the protection of social values. We should stop a young child from kicking or breaking up a toy robot not because it is an expensive toy, but more importantly because the robot is similar to a real life. Giving robots certain rights will make sure that social standards are accepted.

⑤ Still, many people have argued that no matter how skilled they may be, robots are still machines. As a result, it is quite stupid to treat them as humans and give them rights. However, with the development of technology, it is a matter of time before robots are fully anthropomorphized (赋予人的特征), and we would have to consider giving them rights.

⑥ In conclusion, deciding whether robots can get human rights is not an easy task, but now it’s time to start the conversation on this and seriously consider the possibility.

【1】Why does the writer mention the two examples in the first paragraph?

A.To remind the readers of the importance of robots.

B.To make the readers think about a problem about robots.

C.To recommend the readers to watch films about robots.

D.To describe the relationship between humans and robots.

【2】What’s the main idea of Paragraph 3?

A.Robots should be protected as humans.

    B.There is possible information risk

C.Humans are doing harm to robots

D.Robots should be loved and respected.

【3】What’s the correct structure (结构) of this passage?

    A.①……②③……④⑤⑥

    B.①……②③④⑤……⑥

    C.①②……③④⑤……⑥

    D.①……②③④……⑤⑥

【4】How does the writer feel about giving robots human rights?

    A.He doubts about it.

    B.He disagrees about it.

    C.He shows support for it.

D.He pays no attention to it.

【5】The passage is written in a (an) ________ tone (语气).

    A.angry

    B.humorous

    C.sad

    D.serious

Why do we call women jinguo(巾帼) in Chinese?

In China, jinguo is a cool and somewhat literary way to refer to women. But what does it 【1】 (actual) mean?

It is a kind of 【2】 [ska:f] or head wrap that was worn in ancient China. Before the Han Dynasty(206 B.C.—220 A.D.), it was fashionable for men and women to use jinguo to wrap their hair. Later on, only women wore them.

It is said that jinguo was used to refer to women because of Zhuge Liang—a famous statesman who lived 【3】 [ˈdjuərɪŋ] the Three Kingdoms period (220—228).【4】 (story) say that Zhuge once started a war 【5】 the Wei Kingdom. However, the Wei general(将军) Sima Yi didn’t want to fight and asked his army to stay in the city. Zhuge then 【6】 (send) a jinguo to Sima as a form of humiliation(羞辱)—implying that Sima was as timid(胆怯的) as a little girl.

After that people started to use jinguo to refer to women, but as a form of praise 【7】. There is a phrase “巾帼不让须眉”, which means “women are not inferior to men. Xumei refers to men because men often have 【8】 [θɪk] beards and eyebrows.

People also put jinguo and yingxiong together to make the phrase “jinguo yingxiong”, or “female heroes”. 【9】 example, Hua Mulan and Mu Guiying were both well-known jinguo yingxiong in ancient China.

Today, jinguo yingxiong doen’t just refer to female warriors like Hua and Mu. It can refer to any outstanding woman who has made lots of great 【10】 (achieve).
