1、阅读下面的短文,将短文中画线部分的句子翻译成中文。
When people say Chinese culture, we often think of paper cutting. 1.Paper cutting is an art form which has a long history. Traditional paper-cuts were first put on windows for decoration (装饰). That is why paper-cuts are also called “window flowers”. Most paper-cuts are made of red paper, because red means good luck in Chinese culture. Today, people use paper-cuts to decorate not only windows, but also doors and other furniture (家具). Sometimes, people use them as gifts.
Paper-cuts are popular because of their expressions of good wishes and hopes. During the Spring Festival, for example, many people put up paper-cuts of the Chinese character (汉字) “Fu” upside down on the door. They hope that it will bring them good luck.
If you think paper cutting is difficult, you’re wrong. 2.It’s easy to learn it. With a piece of paper and a knife or a pair of scissors, you can try to make your own paper-cuts. Although paper cutting is easy to start with, you need a lot of practice and imagination to become really good at it.

24、Francesca Jones, a 20-year-old UK tennis player, won her final qualifying match(资格赛) in Dubai, making herself get a place in the 2021 Australian Open(澳网公开赛).
This win has helped her to quash her doubters who believed that she would never be able to play the sport as a professional(职业运动员) because of her disability. Jones was born with only four fingers on each of her hands. She had to be operated on many times at a very young age. Her win is the result of her hard work and deep love for tennis, a love which she found while a child in her hometown of Leeds in the UK.
In the summer of 2005, Jones’s parents researched some of the organized activities that their 5-year-old daughter could take part in. They came across the Heaton Tennis and Squash Club, which was at the time hosting a four-day tennis camp. Jones attended the camp, where she met her first coach Matt McTurk. From there, her love for the sport quickly developed.
Believing in her abilities to become a professional, Jones booked more lessons at the club. She accepted the challenges that being born with disabilities had created for her. As time went on, Jones became one of the top players in her hometown. Her family considered moving to Barcelona, where Jones could attend the Sanchez-Casal Academy(学院), whose coaches had trained several top tennis players. 26、There were smiling children all the way. Clearly they knew at what time the train passed their homes and they made it their business to stand along the railway, wave to complete strangers and cheer them up as they rushed towards Penang. Often whole families stood outside their homes and waved and smiled as if those on the trains were their favorite relatives. This is the simple village people of Malaysia. I was moved.
I had always traveled to Malaysia by plane or car, so this was the first time I was on a train. I did not particularly relish the long train journey and had brought along a dozen magazines to read and reread. I looked about the train. There was not one familiar face. I sighed and sat down to read my Economics.
It was not long before the train was across the Causeway and in Malaysia. Johore Baru was just another city like Singapore, so I was tired of looking at the crowds of people as they hurried past. As we went beyond the city, I watched the straight rows of rubber trees and miles and miles of green. Then the first village came into sight. Immediately I came alive; I decided to wave back.
From then on my journey became interesting. I threw my magazines into the waste basket and decided to join in Malaysian life. Then everything came alive. The mountains seemed to speak to me. Even the trees were smiling. I stared at everything as if I was looking at it for the first time.
The day passed fast and I even forgot to have my lunch until I felt hungry. I looked at my watch and was surprised that it was 3:00 pm. Soon the train pulled up at Butterworth. I looked at the people all around me. They all looked beautiful. When my uncle arrived with a smile, I threw my arms around him to give him a warm hug (拥抱). I had never done this before. He seemed surprised and then his weather-beaten face warmed up with a huge smile. We walked arm in arm to his car.
I looked forward to the return journey.
