Burns
Burns from fire or something else differ from mild(轻微的)to life-losing. Some burns can be treated at home, while others need first-aid(急救)medical care.
What to do if you get burned ?
First, check and decide if you can take care of the burn yourself. Go to the hospital at once if the burn is serious.
If you can't get to a hospital right away or you must wait for help, follow these steps:
(1) Take clothing away from the burned area. Don't take away the clothing that is stuck to your skin.
(2) Run cool(not cold) water over the burn until it doesn't ache so much.
Don't put butter, oil or ice on burns.
(3) Put a bandage over the burn.
Ask for first-aid medical care if:
(1)The burn is serious.
(2)The burned area is large(cover the area with a clean cloth).
(3)The burn came from a fire or electrical wire.

26、Have you ever wondered what P.E. classes are like in other countries? In China, P.E. tests are necessary for students to graduate (毕业) from both middle school and high school. To get good grades on the P.E. tests, Chinese students will need to practice running as well as doing sit-ups and pull-ups (引体向上). However, this is not the way that P.E. classes work in US high schools.
In my high school, we are asked to take two terms of P.E. to graduate. We play real sports during P.E. classes, such as basketball and volleyball. There are also some other typical American sports that we often play, such as football and baseball.
I didn’t know the rules of football and baseball when I first came to the US. The teacher let me sit on the sidelines and watch how other students played them in order to let me find out the rules.
We also learn some useful life skills in P.E. classes. Last year, I learned how to do CPR (心肺复苏), which is a life-saving skill. We were also taught how to give first aid to someone who is in danger. These skills are a large part of the final grade for the P.E. class in my high school. Self-defense (自卫) is taught in P.E. class as well. This includes some tae kwon do (跆拳道) and karate (空手道) skills, as well as Chinese kung fu. It is practical.
【1】Our Chinese students need to pass _____ test to graduate from secondary school.
A.running

27、 "Cool" is a word with many meanings. Its old meaning is used to express a temperature that is a little bit cold. As the world has changed, the word has had many different meaning.
“Cool” can be used to express feelings of interest in almost anything.
When you see a famous car in the street, maybe you will say, "It's cool." You may think, "He's so cool," when you see your favorite footballer.
We all maximize(扩大)the meaning of cool". You can use it instead of many words such as “new” or “surprising”. Here's an interesting story we can use to show the way the word is used. A teacher asked her students to write about the waterfall they had visited. On one student's paper was just the one sentence, “It's so cool”. Maybe he thought it was the best way to show what he saw and felt.
But the story also shows a scarcity(缺乏)of words. Without “cool”, some people have no words to show the same meaning. So it is quite important to keep some credibility(可信性). Can you think of many other words that make your life as colorful as the word “cool”? I can. And I think they are also very cool.
